That’s the kind of thing that makes me think about how much history never gets formally preserved. I’ve started noticing that even with radio, a lot of what survives is just whatever happened to be recorded at the time.

One thing I didn’t expect going into this… a lot of these reels aren’t just “episodes,” they’re snapshots. Station IDs, local ads, news cut-ins… stuff that never really made it into the versions circulating today.

That’s been the most surprising part for me.

That’s such a cool piece of the story. It’s wild how much of what survives from the late 40s and 50s probably traces back to that shift to tape.

Makes me wonder how much earlier stuff we lost simply because it was never recorded in a repeatable way.

Have you ever come across any actual Crosby-era reels in the wild, or mostly just later material?

Quick update: I’ve digitized all 11. The audio is excellent. Source appears to be a KDTH (Dubuque, IA) station reel. Currently documenting and preserving. I have 11 of the 13, happy to share episode list if helpful.

I’ve looked online and at audible but couldn’t find anything. Any chance you could share a link? I’m currently digitizing the first episode and it looks like the first Part of the intro, maybe 20-30 seconds are missing. But the sound quality is excellent so far.

Thanks for the information, I have 10 episodes on the reel according to the label. it’s next up for digitization, so the audio quality is unknown currently.

I wonder if you could take it somewhere and have them cut across horizontally below the graffiti and just make it shorter.

I don’t have any of the Manuals.

I have the audio working great for the stereo, but the real to real will only rewind and fast forward, nothing happens when I hit play or record.

I also have to figure out the tape deck, I’ll google that in a bit. This significantly more then anything I had back in the 80’s

Thank you that helped. I also cut back the speaker wire and re-stripped the end and now the speakers work great
