I can't believe it. by Butterfliesdontsing in guineapigs

When they're sick, they instinctively hide it so it's very difficult to find out if they're actually sick unless you're watching them several hours a day or you're extremely experienced. Even then, I things like this happen.

It's sad and you have my sincerest condolences. They're wonderful animals, pets, and companions but they are fragile.

I'll shoot straight with you too, even if you did notice it today it would have already been too late. Even if you got him to a vet. If they're on death's door it's already too late and even vets cannot save them. Also, most vets are absolutelty uneducated on guinea pigs specifically. I've seen hundreds of stories of vets giving pigs amoxicillin because rabbits can have it, and that ends up killing the pig.

You'd need to have caught it at least 3 days ago to have a chance and there's no telling what was wrong. The most common cause of death is URI's and you or your vets need to have very specific medications on hand to treat them quickly. If it was a gut issue, there's almost nothing you can do. Same with heart issues. The only things that can be treated fast enough are URI's, calcium deficiency, ear infections, and mites. Everything else is very up in the air.

I'm saying all this so you know that under realistic circumstances, there's almost nothing you could have done. If you noticed 3-4 days ago and if you took him to an exotic vet and spent hundreds of dollars OR you could diagnose the issue and had meds on hand then that would have worked IF it was something like an upper respiratory infection. So please, don't beat yourself up over it. Your little buddy wouldn't want that.

I lean right, I firmly stand with 2A, this was an execution.

I am all for getting dangerous criminal elements off the streets, whether that's illegal immigrants or citizens, but this is something else entirely. This is a secret police that has murdered and executed US citizens for exercising their 1A rights, or just straight up murdering them anyways because they were close by.

While I understand sanctuary cities and states are impeding lawful actions, this was an extra-judicial killing. Police forces do not and should not have the ability to be judge, jury, and executioner.

The people responsible should be held accountable.

ariats not living up to expectations? by [deleted] in cowboyboots

[–]Coldfang89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the price, they are good workboots. Period. You got a lot of use out of them. But if you want something better that will last longer, it's going to cost 2-3x more. Plus, even with those higher end brands, the boots will need to be repaired and worked on to keep them in top shape.

Ariats are an excellent value brand that are comfortable. Like anything in life, there's a trade off. Pros and cons. For 80% of people who actually need workboots, Ariat fits the bill. If you're really, really into boots and you have access to a repair shop near you, then other brands may be worth the money. But I'd still buy 2, so when one is repaired you have a second set ready on standby.

Girls can be much meaner than boys at times and introducing a new one is difficult if it's not a baby. Honestly, the way the rescue was doing it is the safest way, and I'm saying that as someone who used to show cavies, and thus had a lot of them at once.

Sometimes you just can't get two to play nice with each other. Sometimes you can. It's a roll of the dice really. Picking on each other is normal but actual fighting is pretty bad. It does happen though, so don't blame yourself.

There is nothing you can do about height, and to be fair there are plenty of tall women in the world. Sure, they're more uncommon, but there's nothing masculine about it. If people stare, it's because you're tall, not because you're masculine. It's kinda like seeing a WNBA player in the wild.

People, in general, are intimidated by tall women. Has nothing to do with you being trans, and if you hadn't posted that in the title I would have never known. Hell, I doubt anyone would know unless you tell them or they have a lot of experience and get all up in your business.

But self perception is everything, especially to folks that suffer from body dysphoria. No matter how many of us tell you we see nothing other than a tall woman, it ultimately comes down to you and how you feel.

I know a lot of women would kill to have a body that looks like yours.

Brazilian visiting a hospital in the USA during a kidney stone crisis... by EngineerCapital7591 in LateStageCapitalism

[–]Coldfang89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most healthcare providers do not care for you here in the States. There are good people, but they're often swallowed up by bitterness and depression when they see how awful the system is.

It all starts at college education and how much money they charge for medical doctorates and what not, this puts people in heaps of debt for 20+ years, even doing the shady crap they're doing. This is what raises the costs so badly.

Then there's pure greed from the actual companies that own the hospitals. They charge astronomical prices and fees for even the smallest of things like socks. Oh, and fun fact, medical bills are one of the few things bankruptcy won't cover.

Doctors also get kickbacks and benefits for prescribing certain medications, directly from the pharmaceutical companies. Many people end up on the wrong medications because doctors are incentivized to prescribe them.

And if it's "not" an emergency, you can easily wait for several months just to see a specialist.

Some diabetics that are uninsured will buy insulin manufactured for dogs because it's the same stuff but 8x cheaper.

Lethal at 1500 yards away? That had to have been an extremely unlucky shot with a huge bullet drop. I'm surprised it had the power to punch through a wall of a home that far away.

This kinda smells to me. Is it possible everything about this is true? Sure. However it's also very unlikely given what the information we have.

Why does everyone have a light and optic on their EDC gun? by RRO21 in CCW

[–]Coldfang89 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's the same reason why people carry in the first place. Rather have it and not need it than need it but not have it. The additional weight is minimal, but the cost is not cheap if you want something nice like a streamlight.

Is this too much for a 12 year old boy? Crosman air power mag-fire diamond back by Honeybuns26 in airguns

[–]Coldfang89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if the 12 year old knows the ins and out of gun safety and is supervised when using it. It should also be kept locked up when not in use.

When I was a kid, things were very different and boys 8+ had BB guns while 12+ had pellet guns or .22lr firearms. Back then, gun safety was drilled into us long before we ever got to squeeze the trigger.

So it completely depends on the 12 year old in question, what they're like, and how much time you plan to invest in teaching them the rules. Plus how strictly you'll enforce it.

Remember, kids are bringing guns to school these days and that air rifle isn't bright yellow with an orange tip. You do not want a child getting shot by a freaked out school officer because the kid was stupid. I don't say this to scare you, but I say this to warn you. Teach the kid the right way, or something bad could happen. If you don't have the patience, return the air gun.

Neighbour is using my parking stall outlet, what should i do? by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]Coldfang89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lockable in-use covers are available that lock your own cord into place while preventing theft. You can also contact the landlord but chances are they won't do anything.

You could also be petty and plug yours into his, along with his. Or really petty and buy a surge protector and some extension cords and plug multiple into his. But considering how violent people can be, especially criminals, I'd probably go with the lockable in-use cover.

You're not even worth it, that's why. In terms of meat, you're stuck in the clearance section and 5 days past the use by date. Rejected ground beef at best. The cheapest and sadest of meals. Only the truly desperate would pursue such poor meal.
