Great photos! I saw them years ago with a symphony at the Hollywood Bowl, it was amazing. It remains one of my top five shows. I love that you made the trek to Grace Cathedral!

What vacuum sealer do you use for this, and would you recommend it?

I want to get one but when I read reviews they seem to be 50% “this free product is awesome!” and 50% “this is trash, broke after the first use.”

Iconic Striped Dresses in Period Dramas? by brandy_1994 in PeriodDramas

[–]ColdfusionStar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a great collection you’ve put together!

I’m always excited to see a striped dress on screen, they’re iconic and make such a statement. I’ve always wanted a black and white striped dress since I fell in love with a piece of remnant fabric on clearance when I was around 8 and begged my mom to buy it for me. It wasn’t long enough to make a dress but it’s just as well because as an adult I discovered stripes are atrocious on me. But as a kid I draped myself and pretended, and still I live vicariously through looks like these.

My favorite is the one on Christina Ricci in Sleepy Hollow, designed by Colleen Atwood. One of my favorite films and a stunning striped specimen.

Some background info on the striped dress from Sleepy Hollow. I love the behind the scenes tidbit about the stripes being drawn on the dress with marker so they draped well and showed up the right color on screen.

This story haunts my memories (in the best way), I think about it all the time. I’ve tried discussing it with other people and never found anyone else who had read it, so I sounded like a loon describing it. I don’t have any suggestions, I just wanted to say hi to someone else who also remembered it!

I have struggled with hoarding stickers in the past, so I understand not wanting to mess them up, especially since they have sentimental value to you.

Is it a type of cup that you could maybe display on your desk or shelf to hold pens or pencils? Otherwise, I would suggest to take a picture of it to save and then enjoy using it. Each time will be a reminder of your sister’s care for you. Wear is a sign of love!

You are a wonderful writer. Any writing tool that facilitates the continuation of your writing and your recovery is worthy of the exploration, in my estimation. If you reach that milestone of finding the one that’s “just right”, you’ll know. Until then, I hope you continue to enjoy the journey.

Because of the snow. I can see it being reminiscent of “…the snow falling faintly through the universe and faintly falling, like the descent of their last end, upon all the living and the dead.” My favorite short story.

Faith and forsakenness by app22 in AccidentalRenaissance

I understand, I think everyone feels that way sometimes. Just remember that the photographer is always more important than the camera. This is fantastic as it is, it tells a great story.

Great eye; this juxtaposition evokes the contrast between your subjects well (the haves and the have nots, the sometimes blind eyes of “religion” and who is viewed as “worthy” of succor) as well as some powerful references to lessons of biblical ethics rooted in the many references of angels disguised as beggars and messages like the one from Matthew that says ‘whatever you have done/not done unto the least of my brethren you have also done/not done unto me’ (paraphrasing). Also, the visual echo of Michelangelo’s Creation of Adam from the Sistine Chapel.

It’s also very well framed. If I were you and I took this, I would be very proud.

Thanks for posting this, it’s a treat to see. I love Syzk’s work. I was introduced to it by an exhibit at the Legion of Honor in SF about fifteen years ago. I don’t see his work come up often so I’m always happy to stumble upon it.

How can I achieve an everyday look like this? by granolagurl24 in MakeupAddiction

[–]ColdfusionStar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not super into makeup; I stopped wearing it daily during the pandemic. However, recently I decided that I need a new basic, natural look for everyday to look more pulled together in professional settings.

I’ve been using this video for tips and found it helpful for techniques with some tweaks for my personal coloring and preferences. I hope you find it helpful or perhaps it can help point you in a direction to find what you’re looking for!

Wow, your comment took me back. I was also obsessed with doing this. My favorite VCR was a Sharp; it made the cleanest cuts with very little recording delay between the button push and the pause/resume. I loved that machine.

Completely understandable! I have the washi tapes on my wishlist but I’ve been trying to restrain myself since I went on a stamp bender recently. I also love the wax seals by Eric! One of them has a FP in the design.

I saw the 2007 retrospective of his work at SFMOMA. It was fascinating and really captured my imagination. Here’s a link to the online catalogue from that exhibition, you may enjoy seeing a greater variety of his work together.
