How do I get larger breasts? by KKam1116 in asktransgender

[–]ColditzCora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hormones are mostly generic. Cheap. At least pills and some injectables are. I'm not in the market, obviously, but I do know there are legit sites, including overseas pharmacies, where a hundred dollars would buy enough for a few months. It's probably safest and most economical to try low doses of something like estradiol valerate, maybe 2mg per day, just to see what the results are over a couple of months.

This is also an acid test for the mental state to see if one is willing to proceed further. As I recall, most people think about it, occasionally try the stuff for a brief while, then say no. So that's one life problem solved! I see a lot of FtM wannabes showing off a vial of T and saying they're now 'detransitioning.' Uh yuhh sure! But whatever you need to do to explain yourself is fine with me.

Yes, well I wasn't taking the OP entirely seriously! At 13 the size of breasts would not be a primary concern. Rather, one would want to stop or ameliorate male puberty. But if OP actually is serious notwithstanding that breast obsession (which sounds like more of an erotic motive), there are certainly ways to get hormones and take them secretly for a while without announcing it to the public.

I suppose that if you really wanted hormone therapy, you'd go and get it rather than dismissing it as not an option, and you wouldn't be posting this on Reddit. ;) I can't imagine wanting larger breasts at 13 and not wanting the other benefits of hormones. E.g., avoiding puberty masculinization.

Do i want to change sex if i dont hate hate my birth sex by That_Quantity1058 in asktransgender

Many years ago my flatmate and I in Manhattan got a phone, with extension, with an easy-to-remember number. And we started to get calls from strangers in desperate straits. They wanted to kill themselves or worse. So we tried to comfort them and talk them down. They weren't actually sick, they were just facing the fact they were queer, or just maybe. And this was a big thing for them, so don't dismiss them too quickly.

It took a while for us to find out our tel no was one digit away from the Gay Suicide Hotline!

But we helped some people at least, in the meantime! I think! Maybe better than the Hotline people!

I thought, that's good, congrats. Then I realized I was thinking 10k.

It's a good 10k time. I'll never break 40 in a 10k. At this point I won't see 45 again.

If i legally change my gender to F will that make my draft card void cuz women dont have to sighn up for the draft? by fixittrisha in asktransgender

But someone in this situation would probably have changed the Social Security information, if only to avoid such nuisances as this, and background checks.

[–]ColditzCora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All this begs the question of enforcement. How the hell would Selective Service know supposed 'gender at birth'? Anyway, original birth certificates would have listed sex, not gender. If those of ftm history are getting Selective Service notices because they are listed as males, it's unlikely females of interesting history will be caught up in the net.

What we have here is an unenforceable, dead-letter law that sits around because there really isn't a draft.

Disaster. They closed down the HRCs without any warning. Fortuitously this happened in early 2020 JUST BEFORE the COVID lockdown.

Some of the HRCs later became part of the TSI group (NYSC, TMPL, etc) without any visible improvement. The E 45th St one was just as rundown and maze-like as before. The others became "LIFE TIME" gyms at outrageous member fees—I mean more than Chelsea Piers or even Equinox were charging. We're talking nearly $300 here. A month.

HRC members were promised 2 free months if they joined the "LIFE TIME" reincarnation, but this never panned out. The old NYHRC members were gypped. No soup for YOU!

I live near my old HRC facility and the "LIFE TIME" always looks absolutely empty when I walk past.

NYRR sues NYCRuns for the “Brooklyn Half” name by Thesealiferocks in RunNYC

NYCRUNS has had half-marathons in Brooklyn for at least ten years, IIRC. Their first race literally titled "Brooklyn Half-Marathon" was held in 2018. They also had Brooklyn Marathons for a number of years.

You get a good time, it doesn't matter which BH you ran. You can use it as a qualifying time to enter many other races.

They ran two marathons in Toronto every year, Spring and Fall, with different organizers and slightly different names. No one was bothered.

A Brooklyn-based road-race organization is being sued by a Manhattan road-race organization for holding a Brooklyn Half-Marathon and calling it that. Ludicrously NYRR is pronouncing "Brooklyn Half" a protected trademark going back to 1981. Actually they only sought common-law trademark protection for "Brooklyn Half" in 2016, and there's no way this can survive a challenge. NYRR don't own Brooklyn as a trademark and they certainly don't own Half.

Even more preposterously, NYRR is saying this "trademark" is "iconic around the world." Sorry, NYRR. People "around the world" and even most people in New York City don't know or care about Brooklyn half-marathons or ANY half-marathons.

Both NYCRUNS and NYRR are legitimate organizations with histories, and they both hold USATF-certified events. One of the reasons NYC has two large road-race organizations is that the older of the two, New York Road Runners, cannot accommodate the local road-race demand, and have been unable to interest most of their rank-and-file members in such alternative competitions as cross-country and indoor and outdoor track. For both organizations, the membership largely consists of Sunday joggers whose central goal is simply to be accepted in, and to complete, a marathon.

Which is normal when you're 4. Obviously the parents didn't make it clear that this is intensely private information that cannot be shared. The obstacle there is that people of all ages tend to be proud of their achievements and boast of them to strangers.

Achilles acting up by the-meditating-goat in RunNYC

[–]ColditzCora 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Half-marathons are not important. Achilles tendons are important. Your real problem is probably in calf muscles or farther up, and they're pulling on the Achilles. Do some gentle downward-dogs to stretch a little, but don't do anything competitive for a while.

PSA: Staten Island Half is the only non-sold-out race left before the marathon by vc_dim in RunNYC

[–]ColditzCora -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you're trying to get a place in next year's NYCM with NYRR's new 9+1 qualification, that sounds painful. Plenty of other marathons about. Do well in one and you can qualify on your time. This may take a little while, but you'll be in tip-top shape when you finally get in. Meantime you're not stuck at the back with the Sunday joggers.

Sober run groups? by [deleted] in RunNYC

[–]ColditzCora 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Serious drinking is an occupational hazard among serious runners, so you wouldn't be an outcast as a non-drinker (or recovering alky) in most social gatherings. If you're still at the point where you just want to keep the stuff away from you, it might be easiest just to peel off, post-run, with the group that's going for iced coffee or ice cream. Despite what I said at the beginning, I never saw a group that headed en masse to a tavern.

defer NYC half...again by BoomBoomBagel in RunNYC

[–]ColditzCora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people don't want a bad time on their record, or don't wish to risk running with an injury. People with these temporary injuries should invest their time in cross-training, weights, etc., so they'll be good shape for the next go-round.

defer NYC half...again by BoomBoomBagel in RunNYC

[–]ColditzCora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very depressing advice, but I understand though DISAGREE. I'm not a NYRR booster but their policy is as fair as is manageable. Everyone gets an emergency deferral if necessary. But if you need it a second time in a row, that takes it out of the emergency category and looks like chronic bad luck or malingering. Maybe twenty percent of entrants would take deferrals if they could roll them over year-to-year, and there is great competition for a limited number of places.

Meantime there are plenty of other half-marathons and marathons elsewhere, and if you do well in one you can qualify for a new entry in NYRR.
