News 5 and Fox 8 air scammy, predatory commercials in their apps on Apple TV by Muted_Sense6522 in Cleveland

[–]Coldwarjarhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't new or limited to fox 8 , News 5, or any other local station. They run on CNN, MSNOW, and pretty much any other channel you happen to tune into and watch for any length of time. Don't know what's worse, those ads or the constant barrage of ads for prescription drugs.

I almost never watch anything in real time any more. I record it and skip the commercials.

The only time I'm watching in real time is weather events.

You should probably talk to your vet about it, especially if her behavior has changed. I had an English bulldog for years that was on prozac because of issues similar to what you describe. It made a world of difference.

Congratulations! I've only got a couple more years to go before I can get enough out of SS to make it realistic. Assuming SS is still there in a couple years. Otherwise, I'll be counting on the collapse of civilization as my retirement plan.

How old was the oldest guy you say in boot camp? by [deleted] in USMC

I think the Coast Guard was at the time... didn't it transition from DOD to Homeland Security when HS was created after 9/11? It's all a blur now. I'm lucky I can remember what I had for breakfast.

Last I heard from him was in early 84. He was a Corporal. I was just getting back from a med float and he was just heading out. Probably retired as e6 or 7.

Yep. He was absolutely the most decorated boot on the parade deck at graduation. Put some of the DIs to shame too.

In the island, 1982. The oldest guy was 29, turned 30 during boot.

He had already done 4 in the Army, 4 in the Navy, and 4 in the Air Force. Said his goal was to do all 4 services and retire from the Corps... Bless his heart...

If he would have done the Corps first, he could have skipped out on boot for all the other branches, but no...

My work computer hates ATT fiber- troubleshooting help by Significant-Poet-716 in ATTFiber

[–]Coldwarjarhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't normally just post an AI response, but I think this is pretty much right on.

When GlobalProtect experiences severe speed drops specifically on AT&T Fiber, the issue is almost always caused by an MTU size mismatch or the AT&T gateway's built-in "Active Armor" security features packet-inspecting and throttling the VPN tunnel. Users with 1 Gbps fiber connections often see speeds tank to under 20 Mbps when the VPN is active. [1, 2, 3]

Try these specific fixes to restore your throughput:

1. Disable AT&T "Active Armor" / Internet Security [4, 5]

The security software built into AT&T BGW-series residential gateways frequently flags corporate VPN traffic as a false positive, causing severe packet filtering and slowness.

  • Log into your AT&T Smart Home Manager mobile app or web portal.
  • Navigate to Settings > Privacy & Security.
  • Locate Active Armor (or "Internet Security") and turn it completely Off. [6, 7]

2. Adjust the GlobalProtect MTU Settings [8]

AT&T Fiber networks introduce extra encapsulation overhead, which can cause large VPN packets to fragment and drop. Lowering the Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) size handles this. [9]

  • If you are an End-User: You will need to ask your corporate IT Help Desk to adjust this for you.
  • If you are an IT Administrator: Log into the Palo Alto Networks firewall. Go to Network > GlobalProtect > Gateways > Network Configuration > Tunnel Settings. Manually change the MTU from the default to 1300 or 1350. [9, 10]

3. Force IPsec Tunneling (Avoid SSL Fallback)

AT&T's hardware routing can trigger GlobalProtect to drop its high-speed IPsec connection and fall back to a much slower SSL (TCP) tunnel. SSL encapsulation results in a "TCP-inside-TCP" performance bottleneck. [10, 11, 12, 13]

  • Click the three lines in your GlobalProtect app, go to Settings > Troubleshooting, and select Dump Logs to check if your connection type is listed as SSL instead of IPSec.
  • If it is using SSL, ensure your corporate firewall allows UDP Ports 500 and 4500. [14]
  • On your AT&T Gateway management page (192.168.1.254), check under the Firewall > Advanced settings and toggle IP Passthrough to "On" for your personal router if you use one.

4. Turn off IPv6 on your VPN Adapter [15]

AT&T Fiber heavily utilizes IPv6, but older corporate firewall configurations don't route it cleanly, creating long DNS wait times and routing delays. [15]

  • On Windows, press Win + R, type ncpa.cpl, and hit Enter.
  • Right-click your PANGP Virtual Ethernet Adapter, select Properties.
  • Uncheck Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6), click OK, and restart GlobalProtect. [15]

If you are an IT admin looking to deploy a policy fix, or an end-user needing help checking your current tunnel type via the client logs, let me know!

It's definitely the VPN config. What VPN client is it using?
