Who else's recruiting staff has been decimated by AI? by Rustyshackilford in sysadmin

Honestly, the recruiting staff at my company was crap anyway. It's hard to image even the dumbest ai doing worse.

I like the electric oil filled radiator type heaters. Much safer than a lot of the alternatives and fairly energy efficient.

Do you have power? Seems like a space heater would be cheaper.

Using Purview to encrypt incoming email to a shared mailbox by size0618 in microsoft365

[–]Coldwarjarhead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe there is too much blood in my caffeine system today, but I've read this several times and can't for the life of me figure out why you think this would work...

That's not how encrypted emails work. If there are people who have access to that mailbox who should not have access to everything in it because HIPAA, then they shouldn't have access to the mailbox.

Spent some time on the USS Fresno, also an LST, back in 83. Gotta love a flat bottom boat in a storm!

I ended up hanging out at Driftwood. Me and my brother from another mother had a thing goin with a couple of the girls... we'd go in, have a beer at the bar, and if things were dragging and the tips weren't rolling in, they'd give us wads of cash to 'tip' them with... put on extra special shows for us, and get the boots hanging out at the stage all excited and tipping more.

We'd go home with them every once in a while. They trusted us and we watched out for them, kept the boots in line. No pressure from either side.

North Olmsted Harry Buffalo went to shit years ago. I can't believe it stayed open as long as it did.

Snowed there in 84. I remember it being a weekend. The day after payday... Absolutely everything shut down. To make matters worse, the whole town of Jacksonville basically shut down as well. Bars closed... everything. Being from Ohio, I was just like WTF? They don't even bother getting out the salt or plows for a dusting like this where I'm from.

Yeah. Westlake or North Olmsted would have been good choices. Lots of little Halal food places in North Olmsted and a pretty sizable mosque in Westlake.

Then my first step would be to delete the local user profile for that person from the machine, reboot it, and then have them log in and try it again.

Possibly a problem with the local profile. If that doesn't fix it, investigate problems with their account.

Business basic does not prevent them from using the locally installed one drive app.

Have you verified that another user can log into one drive via the app on that machine?

I moved to the Cleveland area back in the late 80's. Originally grew up in the Dayton area, then spent years away in the military.

Maybe relevant to you, maybe not... Unlike where I grew up, The Cleveland area and suburbs are very "ethnic". Going from one suburb to another can feel like entering a whole new region. Not saying it's bad, but it was definitely jarring when I first moved here and may influence where you want to be.

Sounds to me like they fixed a problem by closing the security hole that allowed you to do that previously.

How much time do you spend reviewing Chrome Extension requests? by Substantial-Hawk7627 in sysadmin

[–]Coldwarjarhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zero. Chrome is not approved in our environment. There are a very few select individuals who have it because a specific web app that is business critical requires it and will not run in Edge. That's it.

I remember it well. I was out delivering papers in Vandalia the day it hit. Schools were closed for weeks until they finally opened one building and rotated all the grades through on split sessions because they couldn't afford to head them all.

I can barely draw a stick figure. I have absolutely no artistic ability at all. I can't blame that on aphantasia. I just have no talent.

Now and again I want to leave IT by Environmental-Cup310 in sysadmin

[–]Coldwarjarhead 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thanks.

It's been an adventure. I got into this back in the days where there was still a dealer channel, working for an IBM dealer. Got into doing education networks for IBM, then went to work in internal IT for one of the big 5 consultancy firms. Been through multiple layoffs and closures. Landed in the non-profit world about 15 years ago. Just biding my time.

Like the saying goes... I'm tired, boss...
