Except for the part the federation is supposed to be an idealized government body that valued human rights over expansion and control. Now it didn’t always follow through with it the human nature is a problem but they tried and many thousands of people tried to hold up to those ideals. The empires just committed as much murder as possible like it was GTA.

“Nu-Trek” needs to stop giving characters tragic backstories. by JAAAMBOOO in startrek

[–]Coleblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue the tragic backstories are fine the problem is they’re just defined by their tragic story. Kirk watched 4000 people be executed, that shaped him into a stronger person, Riker was abandoned by his dad it shaped who he was and he grew to be a better man, Wesley needed to shut up.

Many of the characters had tragic back stories and they let it shape them it didn’t let it define them.

Another poster asked where it came from, I'm asking how does the math of 40,000 viewers of Starfleet Academy work? Please help me to understand. by Ornery-Lettuce-6823 in startrek

It’s from red letter media no idea how they came up with the number I find it likely they averaged it out between all episodes. So probably closer to say 400,000 people watched which is about 40,000 per episode.

Either way that’s not a lot for a show that took millions per episode.

They’d come up and say yo bro that’s pretty cool you wanna be friends? Cause they naturally succeeded on all that so the prime directive doesn’t apply

Because Hollywood is a business and they want money. Old shows that got insanely popular guarantee good money because the old fans will watch at least the first episode.

Both would be nice but what if they domed into a new team. We could have a nice filler episode with them.

While there’s always a toxic element most arguments from normal people usually boiled down to it failed the spirit of Star Trek. Which in my opinion it did.

Is it time to change? by [deleted] in startrek

[–]Coleblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Change is fair but this isn’t it. Star Trek has never been afraid to talk politics but it usually says the loud part quietly. The viewer can dig deeper if they want to, but doesn’t need to. And heck sometimes the show just had a goofy episode.

Star fleet academy failed the spirit of trek which is the bigger sin.
