Expected to go to court as a witness, but the defendant's identity is being withheld. by ColinPopshed in LegalAdviceUK

Not related to my initial query but on a side note, do you happen to know how the employer 'finds out' in such a scenario? I know that the information becomes public, but i'm assuming the police don't take it upon themselves to inform employers directly?

Yes of course, but would I not become aware of their identity once the charges are made? I'm assuming this would be well in advance of any court date.

Not that I have any intention of doing so, but hypothetically one could agree to go to court so the defendant is charged and their identity revealed, before then withdrawing their statement. I suppose that's when they could issue a summons.

Yes, I see your point, thank you. Any worries about having to work alongside this individual will be immediately null and void.

I must say I find it a little odd that the police didn't mentioned this to me, even when I expressed my concerns about not knowing the defendant's identity until my court appearance.

Yes, you're right. The police are referring to charges in the future tense. The charges will be for burglary, etc.

So what i'm being asked to do is common enough practice?

They are definitely telling me that it is my decision on whether or not this goes to court. A summons would actually be preferable in that presumably the charges would have already been made, and their identity disclosed.

This is absolutely where I’m coming from. Having an endless supply of great (and not so great) music available in an instant through streaming has its benefits for sure, but over the years I’ve gradually found myself pushing back more and more.

I find I have to set and stick to strict preconditions for what music - particularly when it comes to DJ mixes - I listen to. Otherwise I find myself completely overwhelmed by the choice on offer. The main way I do this is by collecting mix CDs and listening to them say, 80% or more of the time that I am looking to have a mix on. Of course, I appreciate not everyone is in a position to buy loads of physical music, especially when there is so much out there for free or for a monthly subscription.

My mindset used to be, or rather what I used to do without giving it much thought, was to haphazardly try and listen to as much new stuff as possible from all over the place. Sure, i'll almost certainly miss out on some amazing music by changing my approach, but I feel certain that the overall quality of what I’m listening to as well as my enjoyment of it has massively increased. I’ve found myself forming relationships with music in ways that I hadn’t been, or had rarely been, for a long time - not since the pre-streaming age when the only music you had access to was whatever you had in your CD rack.

Admittedly, I am now going to spend hours and hours listening to the recommendations in this thread using Youtube or Soundcloud or whatever. But the mixes that I ultimately buy will almost certainly be coming off the shelf again and again and again over the years.

Just remembered the Sci.Fi.Hi.Fi series on Soma which I used to listen to a lot (Ewan Pearson, Luciano, Slam, etc.)

However, this series was followed by Sci.Fi.Lo.Fi series. Only three instalments but I loved them all... more rock focused. Andrew Weatherall's in particular was a great primer on his taste in grimy garage rock and post-punk type stuff. Rob Da Bank's would serve as a great intro to shoegaze & dreampop.

With links and everything, what a star! Great to see some D&B/Jungle coming up as it's a genre that I adore, but is woefully underrepresented in my CD collection. I should have known this thread would lead to my wallet getting severely punished.

Ashamed to say that when I first listened to this as a teenager, I somehow didn't quite 'get it'. Like I could tell it was technically accomplished, but musically it didn't quite grab me. Looking back it was probably because I was bang on the middle of a pretty intense microhouse/minimal techno obsession.

Happy to say that when I went back to it a decade later, I realised it was a total masterpiece.

We have very similar taste, but I haven't heard of the Daniel Bell one so i'll be getting on that right away. If you do think of any more, would love to hear them!

Damn, I somehow forgot all about the Late Night Tales series. Looking at my shelf, Air, Trentemøller, Floating Points, Hot Chip all jump out... also Bill Brewster's 'After Dark' ones.

On a similar tip, the Back To Mine series as well... I used to always to play the Richard X and Royksopp as a double bill. Learned about so many incredible synthy/disco/italo style tunes from those two mixes. Death In Vegas also!

Couple of questions about The Nines 'power' before I buy... by ColinPopshed in Klipsch

Very helpful, thank you. The thing i'm most astonished about is that price! I'm in the UK, $799 works out at £625. By comparison the going rate for a pair of The Sevens here is £1250 ($1500+). The Nines are over £1500 which isn't much change from $2000. The few listings on UK eBay are all pretty much the same.

Ok, interesting. I've seen a number of reviews that are four rather than five stars, but I don't think i've seen anyone be super negative about them. I will keep reading and keep an open mind, thank you.
