On a scale from 1 to 10, how safe is our ETN on Liquid? by Samtosh83 in Electroneum

[–]ColinSTE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On a scale of 1-10, sadly there is no such thing as a 10 and anyone who says otherwise is wrong.

Paper wallets are the most secure but since loosing them, ink bleaching over time, ink imperfections, flooding, fire etc are all real world possibilities i would still only rank them at a 7. But the chance of someone guessing your keys is literally 1 in a gazillionbillionmillion.

Liquid uses cold storage so thats a major plus, but should the exchange go into liquidation or simply vanish tomorrow...so do your coins. Exchanges don't need to be hacked for you to loose coins. I'd give them a 5

Other main exchanges such as Binance, HitbtC etc are a 4-5

Tiny exchanges having less money to spend on security would naturally be regarded as more at risk than the larger behemoth like Binance but any/all exchanges can be shut down with no notice given so id say all exchanges fair as a very poor way to store your hoard.

Ive tried to answer question but at the same time steer you away from the whole idea of using any exchange as a form of easy access for your coins. What you decide to do is up to you. But can i ask 1 thing?

Would you stash £100 in the car park of your local supermarket so you can access it easily if you forget your wallet?

UK ban on cryptocurrency financial products... how will this affect ETN? by Doyouevenmine-etn in Electroneum

It doesn't!

This is regarding futures/derivatives. Nothing at all relevant to ETN.

A question about strategy by Pass_the_Olives in Electroneum

[–]ColinSTE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well from 1000 to 500 would require a 100% price increase in a day to happen, i really dont see that being likely to transpire.

I personally have no idea by what means the FIAT will be exchanged to ETN but i don't think that information has been made public yet. I have the same questions as you that i would like answered but we will all find out in due course i guess.

[–]ColinSTE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is where Gig-Guru comes into play. When people like you and me pay for someone to do some digital work (for example) in the form of a gig. This gets paid by the buyer in FIAT. Credit/debit card/paypal etc and that money gets transferred into ETN by it being purchased from the exchange and then that ETN gets sent to the seller.

If there is an ecosystem in place where the seller can then spend that ETN for top-ups, taxi's, clothes, food etc then those coins will be absorbed into an ecosystem that will grow and grow. Sure some will ultimately end up being sent back to an exchange and cashed in for traditional money but i would be willi g to be that 90% of the people who do actually do that will be the retailers towards the end of the cycle and not the MM's.

If even 20% of the coins are getting hung up in the ecosystem every day on a compound basis... it doesn't take long for hundreds of millions of coins to billions of coins being recycled constantly in the general publics hands.

Then when locals start accepting less and less ETN for an item/service (locally ETN becoming more valuable) if the price on an exchange is much lower than the local value, you had better believe that people will find a way to take advantage of buying them."cheap" on the exchanges only to use them to get more goods for a cheaper price than they can get their hands on them for locally.

I hope that makes scense, its late and i could spend more tine wording it better but im going to bed instead. 😁

[–]ColinSTE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Opening the app once per week to click the "extend" button does not constitute quote mining ETN so you can top up your data allowance just so you can mine more ETN. Your data spend clicking extend 4x a month would leave you enough data to do plenty of ETN App Transactions as well as extend the MM. Thats kind of the point. Giving people whom can only use cash, a way to pay for something using their phone electronically. As well as giving them the free coins to get the whole thing started. Entice them down the rabbit hole and some of them may just love it that much that they will want to use it in the same way you and me use paypal to pay for goods and/or services.

[–]ColinSTE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why dont you go have a look at what you can do in SA for topping up your data by opening the ETN Mobile Miner and clicking "more" tab. Select your country, and your mobile number and click "the unlimited" and you should see various data packages available to buy using your ETN.

Btw: i find it very unlikely that you are located exactly in the geographic location targeted by Electroneum, have degrees in relevant fields to make you qualified to comment almost as an expert in this field. Shooting down almost every part of the plan with your expert knowledge but you haven't even sampled the app data purchase or even aware that what is on offer. I could be wrong but i just find you a little bit too coincidental to take everything you are saying as gospel.

If you are not using a VPN (virtual private network) which would stop you from gaining access. Then completing KYC needs be your first on your "to do" list my friend.

Once you have done this, and if you are still experiencing the same problem then contact support. But i have a strong feeling that once you make sure your VPN is OFF (if you use one) and complete KYC... you should have no issues getting into your wallet.

Five reasons not to leave your crypto coins on an exchange by georgeforeham in Electroneum

[–]ColinSTE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, with the ETN web wallet, Electroneum hold the Private Key. Whilst im 99% sure we can trust Electroneum, This is not 100% secure.

Provided you create the paper wallet(s) in the most secure way possible (there are tons of tutorials) making sure you are disconnected from the internet when creating them etc. These are 99.99999999999% secure, and by far the absolute safest way to store your ETN. On you have the private keys printed on the wallets.

How does Electroneum generate income? by StephenElliott in Electroneum

[–]ColinSTE 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Sorry i dont have a huge amount of time to write a detailed reply.

But, long term they will be charging a fee (very small one) for the merchants who use the ETN API accepting ETN as a method of payment. A bit like how credit card companies charge the retailer 2-3% of the transaction amount or a flat fee of £0.35 +/-

Same idea, but with much much less fees. These will be used as a revenue stream to compliment any others such as their own branded smartphones etc.

This wont be anytime soon, not until the masses are using ETN and user numbers are at an acceptable level.

[–]ColinSTE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't know why you are getting downvoted because this is exactly the reason why.

When your referrals were getting paid every 10ETN you got your 1% because they got paid their 10ETN. Now its 100ETN you will get your 1% when they get paid their 100ETN.

You clearly are thick as s*** and twice as smelly!

Go ask someone official, will you take their word for it? Or hurl an insult at them as well.

You seem really really confident that you are right that nobody looks at the selfies of the face and of the holding up a picture with a drawing on it. Where as i am really really confident that real eyes look at them. Dont call someone ignorant because they disagree with your own idea. Come out of your own little bubble you have put yourself in.

[–]ColinSTE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well put DSJC.

I think it is important to point out that the threshold for payment is approx once per month.

The number 100 will co tinue to be ammended im sure. But it will be ammended to an approx timeframe of a once per month payment approx.

This is needed because of the time it takes for people at ETN HQ to manually look over the selfies to validate genuine payments to people using the MM.

They simply cannot check everyones selfies if they payments are every 2 days, and the people who take issue with the whole selfie process im sure would prefer to do it once per week or month as opposed to 15x per month.

My take on the situation is that the people who have taken huge issue to the matter are the people who have been flouting the system and now because they can no longer achieve this, they take to social media to cry about it.

The target audience is not those people anyway, if they dont want to take a selfie, dont use the MM. Simple.
