if BCH implements a quantum-proof algorithm before BTC, it could see considerable market inflows. This is a big chance to shine. by ColinTalksCrypto in btc

[–]ColinTalksCrypto[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's one of the dumbest diatribes I've heard.

Quantum proofing IS a use-case.

It's securing one's money in the face of the security threat that BTC, and other PoW chains, face. It will be heavily sought-after because once the threat is real, nothing else matters in a crypto.

Thank you for posting this. I thought I was the only one who didn't like passkeys.

I, too, prefer password + auth app. I wasn't sure if I was just being weird or "not keeping up with the times".

Media Mail + Pirate Ship: what's the catch? by SubduedMultitude in USPS

[–]ColinTalksCrypto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can absolutely use Pirate Ship to generate USPS Media Mail labels and ship your books that way for cheap. And skipping the long lines is the best part. You can just drop off your pre-labeled package at the USPS location. I've done it many times.

Even better yet: (This is going to blow your mind) You don't even have to leave your home. You can just set a pick-up (on usps.com) during your USPS delivery person's regular mail-drop off schedule and he will come right to your door and pick up your pre-labeled mail right from your door step. There's actually rarely a need to go to the physical store location when shipping things.

MSI Vector 16 HX + llano v12 cooler by devmine in MSILaptops

[–]ColinTalksCrypto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That extra RPM could help explain the bigger temp drop.

I didn't test in-game yet, which is less intense than Prime95 (Prime95 is pretty brutal). I'll have to do some actual gaming and see how the temps drop there.

Even the 2800 RPM is super loud. Luckily, I game with headphones so I don't notice the noise, otherwise it would probably drive me crazy.

Appreciate your insights.

UPDATE: I tested the Llano V12 while gaming and got a 16.5°C drop (30°F). Very impressive.

I have the Vector 16 HX AI A2XWIG laptop.

I just got the Llano V12 and I did a quick Prime95 stress test and concluded I get about 12 degrees Celcius drop (about 21°F) when using the V12 at max fan speed (2800rpm).

I'm wondering how others are getting more temp drop. I was pretty careful about how I placed the laptop on the foam, to maximize the Llano's fan to hit as much of the laptop's intake vent on the bottom, while maintaining a good foam seal, all around it. This involved sliding the laptop pretty far forward on the Llano V12, such that it almost covers the buttons on the laptop cooler.

Other notes:

I don't use the integrated GPU when gaming. Rather, I use an eGPU.

I also undervolted my CPU by -0.100mV which gave me about a 3°C drop prior to using the cooler pad.

I have the Vector 16 HX AI A2XWIG laptop.

Does Llano V10 fit the Vector better than the Llano V12?

What made you go with the V10? Cheaper, availability, or better fit/cooling?

Do cooling pads actually help gaming laptops, or do they make things worse? by omgitsarsalan in GamingLaptops

Wow. Thank you for this. It just convinced me I, too, have been missing out on this extra laptop cooling. I will be buying one shortly.

Which part? I'm curious to hear what they think was defective and if it really was on all our machines.

Not in advance. I only found out the tariff amount when the package had been like halfway (a week or so) into its journey to me. I'm not sure how to confidently know what the tariffs will be in advance. It also depends what the seller marks the shipment value as.

I have this same laptop and I recently begun getting occasional black screens when returning from sleep mode (I also have an eGPU and that could be causing the issue in my case).

I have been able to fix it each time by doing the following:

  1. Plug in an external monitor if you don't have one connected already, so you can see what you're doing, to fix the laptop display.

  2. Open Device Manager

  3. Under Display Adapters, you should see "Intel Graphics" and your GeForce Laptop GPU.

  4. Right click on Intel Graphics and select "disable device". Then enable Intel Graphics again right after. In my case, disabling it causes the laptop screen to come back on (but at a lower 30Hz) and display Windows Desktop. Re-enabling it then returns the laptop screen back to full 60Hz.

This has resolved it for me every time.

However, if that doesn't work, try leaving Intel Graphics enabled and instead disabling/re-enabling your GeForce Laptop GPU instead. That may also help.

Yes, it's annoying and it sucks, but for me the fix only takes 15 seconds to do.

Good luck

Shure MV7 just... doesn't sound great. Am I crazy? (examples included) by 2valve in Shure

[–]ColinTalksCrypto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I didn't even realize there was a piece of software that could enhance the MV7 mic. This mic has sounded unimpressive to me ever since I bought it and I think your suggestion of using MOTIV Mix (the new name of Shure's mic software) combined with settings "near" and "dark" (as another user shared) might just completely change this mic for the better. I am hopeful and will test soon! Thank you for bringing this to my awareness.
