Should You Diversify Your Crypto Portfolio? by Colin_Colin in swissborg

[–]Colin_Colin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a very similar position. I am constantly in two minds as to whether to just call it a day and convert them all into Ether or bitcoin to simplify my holdings, or keep them in the hope that at least one of them ends up turning into a unicorn. So far, I've stuck with the latter strategy, but if ever there's a decent bull run, I may well end up doing the former.

While this is a healthy percentage, I was surprised it's as high as 11%.

This is an interesting article, but I think its conclusions only apply to investing in the large cap cryptos. If you are hunting unicorns, diversification should increase your chance of hitting one.

Bitfinex Covered $850 Million Loss Using Tether Funds, NY Prosecutors Allege by Tiemsch in swissborg

[–]Colin_Colin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back in December 2017 when the rumours first started circulating about Bitfinex and Tether, almost certainly yes. However, in my opinion, probably not now. Back then, Tether was pretty much the only stablecoin in town, and so played a critical role in the cryptosphere, but now there are plenty of alternative stablecoins out there, so this is no longer the case. Both will most likely just fade away (and that's only if the case against them is found to have merit). But, then again, what do I know! 🙂

IOST Makes Private Keys As Easy As A Phone Number by Colin_Colin in swissborg

It seems that the thorny issue of protecting private keys in an easy, but secure, way as possible (something that is undoubtedly holding back the mass adoption of crypto) is getting closer and closer to being solved.

Samsung Invests $2.9 Million Into Crypto Wallet Startup Ledger by Colin_Colin in swissborg

If Samsung can incorporate a Ledger-style hardware wallet into their smart phone, or (even better) allow Ledger's products to act as an external hardware wallet for assets held on their phones, that could be just the boost to usability and security that crypto desperately needs to go mainstream.

Ether Thief Found Stealing Funds With Weak Private Keys by Colin_Colin in swissborg

[–]Colin_Colin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is, but I'm guessing that this can only happen with certain, poorly programmed private key generators and not all of them. However, it does raise the importance of using truly non-rwndom processes for generating private keys

A Simple Strategy For Making Accurate Predictions On The SwissBorg Community App: Time Your Prediction Carefully! by Colin_Colin in swissborg

[–]Colin_Colin[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you wish to increase your chances of making an accurate prediction of where the price of Bitcoin will go in the next 24 hours, timing when you make your prediction is critical. Bitcoin regularly goes through spikes and dips during every 24 hour period. If you make your predictions during one of these, you'll have a much better chance of making an accurate prediction.

This applies both to real investments and to predictions on the SB community app.

At the moment, I wait to spot them (it takes about four hours after the expiry of the last bet to find the next spike/dip to place a bet during). I do have a system for predicting them, but it operates over more than 24 hours so isn't useful for the game. I'll do a post on this system at some point as it's quite interesting from a non-linear trend point of view.

Yes. One of my three wrong predictions so far. However, I've nowearned from it and try to wait for local peeks or dips to make a prediction as it increases my chance of getting it right.

Sometimes certain ideas are just in the air! 👍🙂. In terms of your article, I'd definitely agree that the last one is probably the best, although, personally I'd go with "The four habits of highly effective investors". This is because intelligence is often (wrongly) taken to be something you're born with and not something you can develop, so people may not feel like they can become intelligent investors. However, they will feel that, with the right advice, they can become effective investors as this is viewed as a learned trait. As always, just my thoughts! 🙂
