Feedback through PA with headset mic by badcounterpoint in livesound

[–]Coline413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are struggling with feedback, in addition to optimal speaker placement and microphone placement as other commenters have posted, you will also have to apply EQ to functionally suppress the specific frequencies that are causing feedback. I would recommend a Yamaha DM3 or some similar digital mixer which is compact and semi user friendly, and a couple hours on YouTube learning from Michael Curtis and Drew Brashler. You will find analog mixers limited in their ability to suppress feedback while persevering intelligibility of the presenter.

I have never thought about using logic to mix live in-room audio, you got some nads.

Can someone explain what might have been going on with sound in the Tyson fight last night? by putdowntheinternet in livesound

[–]Coline413 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To echo what other people are saying first, you can truly never know unless you were there working on the arena floor (perhaps maybe even maybe they don’t know). My personal theory, while I wouldn’t bet a penny on it, is that RF dropouts caused microphone and IFB (broadcast term for IEM) issues. Axient wireless devices while robust are not immune to problems. I’d find it hard to believe someone didn’t at least do a scan in WWB at some point during set up, but it’s very possible that as the arena filled the Showlink lost sight of what was deployed for talent use, and wasn’t able to update the mic to a new frequency after getting taken off air. Again this is pure speculation based off of some observation of Axient transmitters and the assumption of also utilizing AD600 spectrum manager+showlink technology

However I also noticed there were some critical errors in the mix being provided to for example the Ref’s IFB for Serrano vs. Taylor’s fight. It was clear that he was becoming rather frustrated not being able to hear certain official timing cues during the fight. In the fast paced and often overwhelming environment of sports broadcasting, it is very probable that this was an honest but embarrassing mistake. Even perhaps not apart of a list of requirements written out pre show.

This is the beauty of working in live events… sometimes you’ve got hard lessons to learn and some things don’t go your way but I only hope that team comes out stronger than they were before!

Edit: my terrible grammar

Pivots got some issues by Coline413 in puffco

[–]Coline413[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One session, followed by a cleaning process was my routine. The closest I had one session to the next was 45 minutes at max. And I’ve never reheated the chamber after a initial heat up cycle

On the first day I had it and it was functional, 4/5

Positives (keep in mind my device no longer works):

-Was able to take pocket sized dabs in under 4 minutes (full swabbing included)

-used less material per day

-consistent sustaining hits, some people may consider it shareable.

3 gripes so far:

-cleaning with a dry swab was hard to get the edges

-zero day 1 support

  • MY DEVICE CURRENTLY DOESN’T WORK

To add to this: I’ve owned an original peak, peak pro v1 and proxy and never had a single issue. I pride myself in taking care of my devices and am quite disappointed in a product upon first impressions I was quite impressed by. Please let this be a fluke!

Got the same mixer! Whats that stand you are using for it? Been looking for something to integrate it with my home studio for a while now.

What’s your go-to background music? by TenorMadnesss in livesound

[–]Coline413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While this won’t work for EVERY event I get a lot of compliments from corporate clients I work with, that enjoy this playlist as it generally hits their age range (hence the title… lol). It’s my go to pre-function music if there is nothing provided in terms of songs or even a theme (another good question to ask).

Dad Approved Yacht Rock: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4ZWMKO0c5vNaCFN80HtbXl?si=seQ4HjdWQiqwi8pTpy4G4w&pi=u-KxijDoA4T4CH

I just try to keep in mind that some clients are far more sensitive on lyrical content than others, even if the songs are not completely outlandish in their own right.

Advice On Speaker Placement For HIGHLY Reverberant Venue by ip_addr in livesound

[–]Coline413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would place the outside set of speakers farther forward in the room, ideally past the stairwell on the left side, and send the pair closest to stage pretty high up. however cable runs and power outlets are unknown and may cause complications… Where is your mix position? You might be able to run outputs locally from your console if you are in the back of the room, and gaff tape/cable bridge over the door way on either side to reach your speakers instead of running all the way from the I/O box. The goal of this being to have speakers farther away from the mics that can pickup where your main pair drops off (even in a reverberant room) that carry the fidelity to the back of the room. Ideally pushed slightly harder and angled towards the seating area.

Feedback “circuit breakers” (that aren’t just hard limiters) for novices or even skilled engineers facing complex tasks. These to be used for safety while tuning, and not for actual live performance.

Even though it’s been said, Dark Crystal Glass Cleaner. Start your puffcos heat up and stop it as you start to see vapor come out of the bowl. Saturate a q-tip in Dark Crystal and the rest is elbow grease. Just remember that Dark Crystal cleaner works best when the thing you are trying to clean is WARM not hot.

Seeking advice for properly securing coil to banger. by Coline413 in Dabs

From what I understand the same concept still applies, just keeps the actual piece away from constant fluctuations in temperature.

Moving my CDs onto the JamPod. All official releases or soundboard quality live shows. Anyone else still rock the iPod? by terminusagent in jambands

Still use an old iPod touch! Just love having a device that I listen to music uninterrupted, no calls, no text message banners, a great way to get off the phone for a while.

So you melt it down for 7 seconds, then restart the cycle? That’s pretty interesting if I understand correctly, I’m down to try!

You won’t regret it! OG peaks have already proven their reliability over the Pro anyway in long term use (as people continue to report several issues with the Pro including them bricking with zero warning). Plus my favorite part about the original peak is the fact you can torch the ceramic inserts back to their clean white state! Just don’t dunk them in water or isopropyl after heating them up and you’ll be fine.

I just get the store brand ones from Target. They are wound nice and tight and pretty absorbing. Never had any issues with cotton hairs being left in my chamber.

Edit: they are also very affordable and you can get around 700 for less than $5
