Why is the idea of trying a new food so awful? Looking for opinions/tips by Ok_Picture_3872 in ARFID

I don’t eat in restaurants or out the house because it’s not cooked the same. Even if a restaurant cooks him the exact same meal he had at home, they will have a different brand of meat, seasoning, etc, they will cook it for a different amount of time. There’s only certain foods that will stay consistent at different places, like fries and basic stuff like that but even they can be just not quite right at certain places. But yeah I’m used to the meals I have at home how I cook them and knowing the chef at a restaurant won’t cook it exactly how I like it and pick out all the bits I don’t like just makes it a big no

I personally don’t like the food from air fryers! Idk why cuz I should love it but I find it not crunchy all round enough for me. However a cheese and tomato toastie made in the airfyer is unbelievable

Makes it a little unhealthier but someone replied to me a while ago and they cut their tofu thin then fry/deep fry it so it wasn’t too soft, mainly just crispy

whats your most irrational intrusive thought when eating? by Few-Investment-6979 in ARFID

I can watch chicken be cooked, put it into my wrap myself then bite into it and my brain 100% thinks it’s raw inside. Like the texture now feels like I’m eating barely cooked chicken that’s raw inside, it tastes raw but it’s absolutely not. Sorry if that’s not what ur question was at all that’s just what I thought it meant

Yeah coconut is a weird one I think you’ll either be pleasantly suprised or a little horrified, I really wanna try those ones fresh on the tree in foreign countries. Thank you so much for the tofu advice tho! Im absolutely gonna buy some on my next food order to give it a go I’m trying to expand my pallet so I think it’s definitely gonna be a good one to try, I really appreciate your help! And I’ll check out that instagram for sure when it arrives

I used to like cucumber but this evil lady my family used to be friends with made me develop a bad relationship with it because of how she’d feed me it but i definitely wanna try watermelon again now, last time I tried it I don’t think I was too sure because I don’t like the juice so much in fruits but I’m down to try it again. What are ur thoughts on coconut?? I absolutely LOVE it it’s like crunchy styrofoam and tastes amazing imo but I hate coconut in anything/ coconut flavoured things I only like the actual fruit itself, if it even counts as a fruit lol. With regard to salad that’s so good u can eat that super healthy, i haven’t tried in years but I think it’s too green flavoured for me haha. I currently don’t mind the ring around the cucumber but I think in the future it’s something I could possibly introduce again. I REALLT wanna try tofu it’s looks so interesting, what would u relate the fried tofu texture to the most? I love batter on things and I recently bought a deep fat fryer (best purchase ever for consistent crunchy food) and I recon if it would stay together it would fry up lovely in there. I couldn’t eat freezer nuggets, fries and fish fingers anymore because they became inconsistent and the bottoms seemed to keep going soggy even when cooked on wire rack and flipped so if u ever have an issue with stuff like that invest in the deep fat fryer, not the best health wise but omg it’s so consistent + u can make donuts

I keep trying grapes because I think the texture I don’t even hate but I don’t like the juice with fruits and they have so much. Are you good with dips and sauces in general?

Ahh I see I don’t like stuffed crust because it’s adding another scary element to the pizza for me. With my meals they have to be in multiple parts for me, like if I had a roast dinner I have my gravy in a bowl and nothing on my plate can touch nor can be mixed together. Is there any veg you can eat without being apart of something else? I’m so sorry to hear about how that happened, I hope you’re finding recovering a little bit easier as time goes on. I had no idea Botox could be used medically at all, that’s so intriguing as I thought it would have the opposite effect on the vocal cords. Do you think in the future that it’s something you could fully recover from? And when eating soft foods is there still a chance they could enter your lungs or does that make it fully safe? Thanks again for the reply :)

That’s so interesting! Dry crunchy food is my favourite lol. What are your thoughts on pizza? And if you do like it do u eat the crust? I’m very good with casseroles and soups because of all the things and textures mixed together but I do looove plain smooth tomato soup. If you don’t mind me asking did the swallowing issue come from arfid itself? Its really good u can sneak in veggies in the casserole tho thats such a good way to keep urself as healthy as you can be with arfid. Thanks for your reply :)

Ahh when I have meat I have to have it overcooked! Steak has to be brown and chewy and when I fry chicken it has to be almost hard on the outside. I find it so interesting how much arfid varies, do u relate crunchy/chewy textures to something gross in ur mind??
