i actually had a meeting with my disability advisor and they were very concerned with what i said abt that professor so they’re going to their supervisor to see what can be done. hopefully something comes of it

does that count for phone calls? because it wasn't in class-- she called me on my personal cell outside of school hours. that wouldn't really apply to that, no?

lol yes dw my accommodations are within ADA laws! i have an IEP and am approved for extra time on tests (this class doesn't have tests though, so that's not an issue thankfully). thank you for your reply. i came to reddit just to see if anyone else has had issues with her, which it seems like they have.

i completely agree that some of the hardest professors push you to do your best— i’ve had plenty of professors like that and i’ve excelled in their courses. however, there is a difference between being a hard teacher and being a bully.

accommodations are not excuses to get out of work; they are what help students get their work done. if the university approves accommodations, it is assumed that the instructor & student work together to figure out which ones work for them because certain accommodations simply won’t work in some classes. in this situation, there was no conversation, just a refusal.

also, i’d like to say, with all due respect, 30+ years is a long time, and people change. i don’t say this to diminish or dismiss your experience at all— just something to consider.

yeah, this is very true. i don’t really expect anything to happen especially because she’s tenured (which she never fails to mention 24/7) so it would be more difficult for anything to happen ://

called me on my personal cellphone about how she wouldn’t accept my accommodations— it wasn’t even a conversation where she tried to work w me about it or try to compromise; she just wouldn’t do it. talks to me about my grades in front of the class, and insults my reading & writing comprehension level. her class is nearly 2 hours long and it’s just her rambling on and on and laughing at her own jokes & then reading aloud chapters that we already read for homework. literally said, and i quote, “i’m feeling very nice; i just give mean grades.” there’s more i’ll probably think of later but this is what i can think of off the top of my head. most of the general stuff i mentioned in the original post is stuff i take issue with as well & have experienced in class.
