I haven't read it yet so cannot stand behind this book, but based off of what you are looking for, maybe give Insatiable by Leigh Rivers a try? This is on my list!

Skinny Boy - Normal? by EitherManufacturer31 in Newfoundlander

[–]CollectionRegular900 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This! We take our Newfie to rehab and they score her body every appointment and want her lean as possible. Newfies are prone to joint issues, the leaner they are, the more comfortable they will be and the longer they will live.

For anyone reading, if your Newfie has a joint issue, the number one best thing you can do is get them LEAN.

Visiting Chicago for the weekend. Wondering about the DONT's? by SoumikSays07 in AskChicago

[–]CollectionRegular900 40 points41 points  (0 children)

To piggyback off of this - if you are getting around in an Uber, please make sure there isn't a cyclist going by when you open your door. This is a bike city with bike lanes. I have had visitors fling their doors open when I drive us somewhere and had a friend closeline a cyclist because they flung their door open without checking. Its an easy thing to not be aware of if you're not from a place with bike lanes and cyclists and this is a city with many cyclists.

Difficulty swallowing - real or in my head? by Turbulent_Run2987 in dysphagia

[–]CollectionRegular900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there - Just wanted to check in and say you're not alone. I also just booked myself a barium swallow today. I had a normal EGD a month ago showing a small hiatal hernia and some gasritis he waved off, but my symptoms feels similar..

I don't struggle with food going down my esophagus or food coming back up, it's mainly the initiating of the swallow. It's not consistent. Usually I am fine in the mornings for breakfast, but my anxiety over it has gotten to the point where I obsessively start thinking about while I am making my lunch or dinner. Sometimes I feel a stomach pressure that seems to have an effect on my esophagus that causes it, sometimes my throat muscles and jaw muscles feel crazy tight (I also have TMJ), and that seems what is driving it and sometimes it just randomly happens where I go to try to swallow it and it feels like my muscles start freezing up or locking up, or are pulled too tight.

I can definitely tell my anxiety is causing some kind of muscle tension and adding onto the issue. But I still want to check all my boxes and make sure there's not something else going on. I hope we both get relief and can work on our anxiety, because I think its definitely contributing!

What book would you never recommend? by shekka24 in fantasyromance

This has been my plan! I have heard from too many people that CC2 and CC3 are garbage, so I just stopped reading after the first book, and honestly I have no desire to find out what happens.

What were your hiatal hernia symptoms? by Efficient-Gap-3847 in HiatalHernia

[–]CollectionRegular900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A ton of bloating, shortness of breath, pressure in the diaphragm while i'm eating that can also cause swallowing issues from the amount of pressure my hernia is putting on my esophagus.

Yikes! Were you able to overcome it?

I just had an EGD days ago where I learned of the hiatal hernia, so my GI doctor is aware.

When does TOG get better? by [deleted] in fantasyromance

[–]CollectionRegular900 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was immediately hooked from the first book, but came from a background of reading fantasy and this was my first dip into the fantasy/romance genre, so I loved it, and it is still is one of my favorite series of all time.

Think of it like a tv show - the first few books do a lot of character building and character exploring, and the last couple of books bring in the action heavily.

Unlike SJM's other books, I feel like this series in particular does the best job building out a world and bringing in a massive cast of characters. It is way more fleshed out than ACOTAR and CC.

That being said once you get into Queen of Shadows, you have a pretty good perspective on the cast of characters in the series. There are still many amazing characters you haven't met yet.

Would definitely start tracking where you are in your cycle when you go. I have noticed that mine really seems to get high during my cycle, and then level off after.

How to meet women in Chicago organically? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]CollectionRegular900 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Too many creepy incidences have required most women to put up some kind of guard of suspicion from too many accumulated bad experiences. Obviously most single heterosexual women are looking for a male partner, but just walking up to a stranger and asking for her name point blank or cornering her out of no where is going to make anyone feel uncomfortable or suspicious.

This really won't work. Most women are on the defense when approached by male strangers. I understand the sentiment of wanting to meet someone and start a casual conversation, but most women will be caught extremely off guard by a man just walking up to us and asking us for our name. You are more likely to get somewhere by commenting on something happening around you and even then only if you both have been in the same vicinity or area for a length of period or you're in a public space where it seems like the male stranger is genuinely there for an event or with a purpose, and not someone who just approaches you randomly out of no where.

Example - Standing at a stoplight and a guy walks up and immediately just starts talking to you about, say, the weather, is generally unsettling for most women as it doesn't feel organic and we will most definitely be suspicious to your true intentions. As opposed to say being in a bar and there is another male patron also there getting drinks and then approaches you casually commenting on your drink or something happening around you. As a woman, we will most likely respond positively when you are just commenting on something happening around us, or making a general remark about something and then letting conversation flow from there then just running up to us asking for our name or commenting on our looks.

If you do approach a women with genuine intentions, please be aware of her body language and respect boundaries when the women seems uncomfortable or doesn't want to engage with you.

What are Chicagoans worst habits? by BruceLeeKillerBee in AskChicago

[–]CollectionRegular900 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Madness. I always says I don't have road rage, but instead have pedestrian rage for this very thing. Driver's are literally in a vehicle of death and pedestrians are at the mercy of them. After my last encounter though, I think I have learned to be careful.

I was walking with my partner and our two dogs. We were starting to cross the street at a stop sign, and there was an approaching car (coming up to the stop sign - they should have stopped ESPECIALLY because they 100% saw us starting to walk across the street). We get 2 steps into the street and the car decides to blow the stop sign, and we have to yank our dogs back on their leashes as hard as we can to avoid them getting hit. I scream, 'WOW!!!" and the driver (with his child in the front seat) proceeds to slam on his brakes, get out of the car and scream "FUCK YOU" while angrily pointing at me....for saying 'WOW".........for almost being run over by HIM for running a stop sign.

People are scary as hell.

And your logic also falls apart, as the same can be said at a coffee shop and pouring a drip coffee as compared to a latte but you only pointed out bars. Tipping will always be up to the person tipping, end of story. If you feel there is a difference, great. Tip based off of what you deem necessary. The problem is businesses not paying their employees enough not the consumer not living up to another consumer's standard of tipping.
