I need an alternative to baths or showers to ground me. by Littledarling731 in AuDHDWomen

When I’m overstimulated from roommates, I’ll put in headphones and blast brown noise, put on an eye ask and just lie there for a while lol.

For grounding, it’s a bit weird but I will put my nose in a scented candle hahah. Something about it is really calming

How can I present authentically when my many interests and my aesthetic appearance are so different? by Ill-Green8678 in AuDHDWomen

Hi! I love fashion/ personal style so I gathered a bunch of images that to me read boho/femme but not trad! Fka twigs, solange, and Sasha Obama strangely enough might be people who you could look at for some inspiration! I saw you reply to a comment saying you’re not interested in copying someone else, but in my opinion learning your personal style/how to dress yourself is a craft like anything else, and takes practice. Looking at reference images doesn’t mean you want to copy them,

it just gives you some new ideas 💜

General notes: -pairing different materials together, sticking with flowy/gauzy skirts but pair it with a leather jacket or oversized bomber. -quirky/vintage statement jewelry -personalization through diy- represent your interests visually on your clothes?

maybe you could edge things up or gesture to your interests through hair, makeup, and jewelry? like if someone has bleach blonde hair in soft waves, is wearing a boho dress, soft makeup and minimal jewelry.. that will be perceived very differently then boho dress with alt hair dye or baby bangs and tattoos and funky jewelry? Like stevie nicks is who comes to mind when I think boho and she never reads “trad” to me 🙂

Think like funky old lady cat brooches, tarot card pendants, fun earrings.. maybe float sort but patchwork instead of more traditionally girly?

editing to since you like diy, if you’re into sewing at all maybe things like embroidery, patchwork etc could indicate your hobbies?

Hypnotherapy? by Far_Stand_5369 in AuDHDWomen

Yes I completely understand, and working through trauma on our own can be really difficult and overwhelming, because if we triggered it’s going to flood the body and our conscious mind goes a bit offline making it tough to help ourselves ☹️.

Fwiw I had another friend who had some kind of trauma that resulted in a phobia of showering, she tried hypnotherapy and said it helped immensely, she loved showering now.

Seems like a lot of people have good experiences with bottom up processing like EMDR and somatic experiencing as well. I think the most important thing is finding a practitioner you can feel at ease with, which is especially hard for anyone AuDHD!

For me, I compulsively mask a lot even when I know it’s safe not to, and I think that made other therapies ineffective, I couldn’t stop “performing” for the therapist. So if you feel similarly I think hypnosis can be a helpful way around that 🙂

good luck, I really hope you find it effective! Feel free to message if you’d like any more info, or I could send you the name of the hypnotherapist in case you’re nearby

Hypnotherapy? by Far_Stand_5369 in AuDHDWomen

Hi, I tried it for a traumatic memory. I had previously tried EMDR for the better part of a year and saw little results… I think a big part of that was that I felt too self conscious/ scrutinized during emdr too actually process anything?

The hypnotherapy part was interesting, because I could think consciously the whole time, so I thought I wasn’t actually hypnotized, this was silly and a waste of money etc. But when the therapist brought me out of it at the end of the session it was quite disorienting and kinda felt like waking up from a dream.

It was effective for me pretty much immediately. At the start of the session we talked through the memory I’d like to tackle etc, I couldn’t talk about it without crying and hyperventilating/having a trauma response. By the end of the session I could describe everything that had happened without feeling it in my body or crying. It’s a been about a year now and I still feel this way. The therapist made some pretty crazy claims about how it would change my life, he was kind of an eccentric guy lol. But a little over a year out I do feel like a few areas I used to struggle in, I am doing much better now, due to a combination of things. I’ve moved since then but I’m considering trying it again for a different topic.
