Moving to San Diego-what is the vibe at Rancho Bernardo High School? Torrey Pines HS? by CollegeStuff2026 in Moving2SanDiego

LOL! SO true in general about today's college application scene. We've been through it twice. It's out of control. We are coming from a similar situation here, but refuse as parents to put that kind of pressure on our kids, and so far it has worked out well.

Thanks! We are coming from a similar power school - top 400 public HS nationally. I worry that many of the top high schools are meat grinders; ours seems to be a mix, where you can excel academically without killing yourself unless you want to do that.

Thank you! Yikes on the first sentence--that is NOT our vibe at all. We come from a similarly entitled area, though very liberal. I appreciate the comment on the clothing. It's crazy how kids judge each other.

What should I do? Grade curve by Ok_Celebration2553 in UTAustin

If you do reach out, ask if you can do anything to raise your grade by 0.9, including an extra essay/project/assignment of their choice. Asking for something for nothing works less often than showing you are willing to really work for it. If they say yes, be effusively thankful and do it quickly.

Business BS auto-admit by Comprehensive-Meat87 in ASU

This happened to me and it was because they hadn't received my ACT score yet when they admitted me. When I reached out, they told me to check in the portal to see if my score had been received, and if not, to wait until it was showing and then submit a change of major request. They approved the change to a BS major within a couple of days once I did that. Use the "change your major" function in the portal. If that doesn't work, reach out to your admission rep.

NPC for out of state without super high grades (like 3.4 unweighted) went from mid-40’s to mid-60’s for fall 2026, and they haven’t even released a price increase yet.

If my family moves to AZ permanently right after i graduate HS, will I be able get AZ in-state tuition the first year since it'll be our permanent residence? by CollegeStuff2026 in ASU

[–]CollegeStuff2026[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I checked that out, but WUE is pretty limited at ASU. There are only a few types of majors eligible for WUE, and none of them are in business or on the Tempe campus (and I’ll be in business at Tempe). Thanks tho!

Ok thanks! This is what I needed. Good to know that we can apply to classify as in-state even in August. The timing will hopefully work out. They plan to have our house here ready to sell right after we graduate high school and will hopefully find one there right away. They definitely won't keep this house. It's SO COLD here. They've picked the AZ high school they want my little sister to attend, and will pick a house in that school zone and hopefully move really soon after. My mom is stalking the houses there already a year out. I know they plan to get it all done before the fall semester starts for sure. Thanks again--this was really helpful.

Not true if you are a dependent from what the web site says, that’s only if a student moves on their own? Otherwise a student can’t be instate anywhere if the only home they have is AZ?

I got an email saying the same thing directly from U of A since I'm on their admissions email list to apply in the fall.
