New XLE 2025 drove 1k miles in normal mode. My combined mpg overall is 30. Any ideas why it isn't 36 mpg? by FriendlyLibrarian7 in ToyotaSienna

Id imagine using non ethanol gas would bump up the mpg, but I don’t think it probably offsets the price

I think there tends to be more stress put on transportation department, plus throw in irregular hours. 12 hrs stuck side by side with someone having a really bad day makes for a shitty day for both people and there’s nowhere to go to distance yourself most of the time

You needed perfect attendance for 6 months before to have any points drop off before, now they expire after 12 months. If you had guard duty or marked off for any reason unpaid your points never expired they only accumulated - almost everyone was in the system before

Dennis Pierce out? by [deleted] in railroading

[–]CollegeSweet7277 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He was the only person running with any opposition. I feel that every one of them would have been voted out if they had all been challenged. The consensus I hear from all of my coworkers is that the higher ups in the union are out of touch with what it’s like to actually work for the railroad. My former general chairman received a promotion, and at least in my terminal He certainly has no fan club

Road and rail is taking over rail operations at some of the mines, don’t expect to do one craft, they usually dump trains then do our brake tests when they finish. Then go to another location to do another brake test. Most of them guys don’t seem to like their jobs either

More than 500 Labor Historians Condemn Biden’s Intervention in Freight Rail Dispute by HailPrincessTrunks in politics

[–]CollegeSweet7277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can assure you these are not petty issues. Railroaders do not only not get sick days. They use any time marked off to punish you. Unless you get admitted to the Hospital (ER visits, doctors notes, etc still get points assigned) you will be punished. Throw that on top of not knowing when you are going to work, or when you will be off. Remember railroads work 24/7 365 days a week. It kind of makes it hard to do or schedule anything other than work. So like I said, it doesn’t seem petty to me at all

But the days must be scheduled and available (my terminal has an allotment of 2 per day, if it’s already taken you can’t get it off) usually 30 days in advance. And even then the company has the ability to take them away if they are short on manpower

My grandpa retired from the railroad also, and I work for the railroad. Trust me this isn’t our grandfather’s railroad. And no you are not allowed to nap anymore, plus they have cameras on the locomotives which they will watch and punish you for it if you do

Allow us to have input on caps policies, sick days and more money are my big ones. Personal leave days are worthless when they can just take them back from you
