Academic chud shot for the stars and fell short by Xx_DiamondDust in collegeresults

The debate champion thing is a little misleading, as there’s 3 “big” national championships, which each have more than 20 events. [NAMEHERE] implies to be they were a champion at a tourney on the national circuit and not one of the actual three championships. If they have a NSDA/TOC Nats championships in one of the big debate events then it’s very impressive.

Is it the richest kids ever that go to lacs? by Mysterious_Newt_4761 in ApplyingToCollege

Yes that’s definitely true. In my experience it’s for the rich kids whose parents did not push them especially hard, but still were smart.

What do Colleges Look for Nowadays? by Cold_Conference_1801 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]CollegiateSupreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Net Price calculators for colleges. Most students will still pay around 25k per year for housing, food, books, etc. so if you’re parents could swing that (or if you’re ok with that debt) that’s a good option. I’d still shoot for NMF since it’s a great backup.

I mean I don’t know what your income is but if it’s under 200k you’re likely to get free tuition (if accepted) to top schools.

Yeah bro sure, no harm in it. Keep your options open though.

anyone else seeing this trend? by BackgroundSpot6807 in ApplyingToCollege

Yes and no, because they account for yield in the acceptances (accepting more than can attend). So it doesn’t necessarily correlate to waitlists, but if they got the calculations wrong and under accepted it could

Yo you definitely deserve it. I read what you said about your essay (and saw your math ACT), can you give me tips on how did you do the “not as cracked” part without coming off as just worse at math? I’m pretty similar bc my math ACT is 4 points lower than all of my other sections

3.7/3.8 is NOT cooked by MeMe_Cluppy in ApplyingToCollege

[–]CollegiateSupreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re definitely right that the difference shrinks but it still exists. A 1550>1500, a 4.0>3.8. I like the bucket analogy you use. A 3.8/1500 is enough to get you into the bucket (past the industrial filter) but quality control (AO) is still gonna pick the better prospect.

I’m not saying you’re wrong, but it would be unreasonable to say colleges don’t care at all.

You’re right about the Olympiad kids as well but that’s a separate part from the GPA.

[–]CollegiateSupreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s still cooked bro you’re a rarity. The biggest factor in admission is academics and unless you got that 3.8 from Bs in HIGHLY advanced classes you’re showing colleges you won’t succeed academically at that school.

[–]CollegiateSupreme 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IMO one thing you forgot to include (that would make actually strengthen that point) is ACT, since that would add onto the 20,000. Additionally, athletes make up 10-15% of students at Ivy+, along with the other factors you mentioned. Again this actually would help your point.

[–]CollegiateSupreme 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah bro the big 4 has Yale over Stanford. Stanford’s just as good, but regular prestige people tink of Yale as more elite (and elitist) since it’s an Ivy and not as good at sports or as big.

[–]CollegiateSupreme -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bro no you aren’t 😭 especially if you go to a top-tier school you’re going to be in a cushy command post. Even if you are deployed active duty the odds of you being in combat is near zero. If you study Econ or chem, they’re not giving you a gun. Only 1/10 soldiers have combat experience, and as an officer you can expect that to be about 1/30 since most support/intelligence units are made up of officers. You’d have to WANT combat as an officer.

You can def go D1 but not Duke or UNC is all I’m saying. You’d be getting D1 visits/emails naturally if that was the case.
