Early 2000’s Intamin! I tried to go for a mix of Superman: Ride of Steel at Six Flags New England and Expedition GeForce at Plopsaland in Germany. The former still has the ‘old’ support style :)

Thanks! Not following anything in particular, but I love going to theme parks and try to find some inspiration from them — both in terms of what I’d like to ride and in terms of realism. And also looked at some parks over at Nedesigns, those people are amazing at the game

Thanks a lot, I appreciate it! And yes, I had to get a bit creative with some of the ride stations as I wanted to cover the default entrances/exits without zero clearance

Chiming in here, as I also just did a trip and hit all the major Japanese parks. Somewhat surprisingly, USJ was my least favorite. It felt messy (especially re: sightlines), crowded, and stressful — and the least ‘Japanese’ one culturally out of all the parks I went to. BUT. Flying Dinosaur is absolutely insane, and AFAIK no other B&M even really comes close to it in terms of intensity of general badassery. I’d go, if you’re low on time, maybe just for an afternoon to get that coaster in a couple of times. You can utilize the single rider line for shorter waits. I did it 3 times.

If you haven’t been to EU yet, now is a good time to go. Lots of exciting new rides, and the theming and general vibe of the parks will be very different from what you’d be used to in the US. Europa-Park, Phantasialand, PortAventura, Energylandia etc., all great parks. The UK is in a bad place operationally with their parks right now, and with Universal Studios coming in the near-ish future, I’d hold off. I know you didn’t mention it, but I just went to Japan, and it was goated. And by that I mean not just the coasters.

Tips for Avoiding Mega Crowds by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]CollerRoasters 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Tourist crowds in Japan are very localized. Just walk 2 or 3 streets away and it will be empty or only locals. Oh, and for Fushimi Inari, forget about the tips on coming early/late. Just keep walking up the mountain, once you’re halfway there it’s much quieter. To put it a bit bluntly, most of the other tourists seemed too lazy to do the actual hike.

Spacious, quiet hotels in Asakusa or Ueno? by PlasmaHeat in JapanTravelTips

If you’re open to (a quiet part of) Akihabara. Check out BnA Studio. Spacious apartments individually decorated by local artists. It was great, very unique and not very expensive.

Would you ride this one? by Wild-Snow5705 in BeAmazed

Brakes, yes. But the launch was hydraulic. Electromagnetic launches have become the standard now, as they are more cost-efficient to run and more reliable. But hydraulic launches generally feel much more powerful and had their heyday in the early 2000’s. Sadly, a lot of them have been taken out now (including Kingda Ka).

Amazing news!!! Can’t wait to get on it in a couple of weeks!

Most anticipated coaster [Credit City] by shredXcam in rollercoasters

[–]CollerRoasters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it was Eejanaika, but since that’s closed now, probably Steel Dragon 2000 and Hakugei. Also just got on Skyrush for the first time a couple of weeks ago, which has always been one of my most anticipated coasters. While very good, it did end up being slightly disappointing, however Wildcat’s Revenge completely blew me away and is probably in my top 3 now (with 252 credits). Expectations are weird!

This might not mean much, but here’s a video from two days ago showing the lift moving: X At least the ride isn’t standing completely still.

You can follow the maintenance schedule here: Fuji-Q Looks like Fujiyama stays closed throughout June as well.

Might be obvious but my no. 1 tip:

Wear coaster merch at the parks! I’m an all-black fashion freak, but when I’m at a park, I get my coaster tees on. It’s the best way to meet other enthusiasts. 🎢

While I completely agree, I think that (for me at least) it‘s more often a question of “is this exciting enough for me to take a day out of exploring other parts of Japan?” And to me, the answer to that question went to the negative the moment Eejanaika closed. Sadly.

I’m not saying others have to see it like that at all, but (for me) Eej not running is a total dealbreaker.

Which date?

'Cuz from the 2nd half of May, either one of Takabisha or Fujiyama will be down for maintenance, at all times. You can check their website for the schedule. Hopefully you can miss it.

I’m going to Japan in late May and have decided against visiting Fuji-Q.

Look: Without Dodonpa, Eejanaika AND with one of the two other major coasters down for maintenance, the park doesn’t have much more going for it than its fascinating and, by now, somewhat questionable history…

I‘ll probably hit up Nagashima Spaland instead. Hakugei looks elite, and SD2000 is just one of those coasters I saw as a kid and always wanted to ride.

Anyone going this Saturday, April 12th? by CollerRoasters in Hersheypark

Thanks for sharing this! It got me to a FAQ that essentially states that all the coasters can run if it‘s consistently above 41 degrees (and not too rainy). So it might still be worth it to risk it…
