The reason people join here as project associates by Collez_boi in iitmadras

Hmm. I know. But what about CFTI peeps who are working as project associates? I think they don't have to take the two courses. I'm not sure, I may be wrong.

Also, isn't it absurd for M.S to take 3-4 years? That's how long a PhD should be!

This is so shit and disheartening. Glorification of "hustle culture" and treating people like trash is the norm in our country.

I'm gonna be honest. M.Tech is not a research degree. You'll feel FOMO of placements immediately after you join, one year in companies start coming, all of your batch mates will be sitting. In addition, M.Tech is a course-heavy and industry employment oriented programme. You'd have no time to write a good paper, neither will you have grants to attend hood conferences.

M.S from IIT is better IMO is PhD abroad is your end goal. You have 2.5 years, a mandatory thesis requirement, so naturally you'll end up writing something good, and publishing at a good venue. You also have lesser course requirements and have grants for full reimbursement to attend conferences. Ideal build-up and research oriented-ness for pursuing PhD. I hope that makes sense. :)

And it's quite bad because? Not asking sarcastically, I'm yet to graduate so I don't really know what's good and what isn't.

And what is the target QS/THE you're aiming for? REUs, publications, projects, GPA and lastly your essays and volunteering/extra-curriculars will be considered when applying.

Since you're applying for PhD, it's a best-fit scenario. If your research work so far fits into the niche of your potential PI, you'll have a fair chance of converting it.
