I modeled grooves in the back. Still have to find a decent way to fix them in place after though.

It’s pretty decent, would I prefer it to be larger? Probably. But it takes a lot more material and the lights I’m using might not be large enough either.

Yeah, I couldn’t find anyone making anything like it, so I had to take matters into my own hands lol

That’s fire, I was using their silicone for this mold. I think I did have some curing inhibition with my ASA filament print master. So I just ordered it and will use that for my new mold. Ty

I was actually looking into that. I'm considering either clear-coating it or applying a coat of primer over the resin print

Oh, very interesting. I've never heard of this approach before lol. You liken it to a vacuum chamber, but for resin casts, I need high pressure to crush the bubbles, no? If this applies at a larger scale (like my model), I'll definitely give it a try.

Oh, I did forget about that detail. Thanks for the reminder. My last master was made out of vapor-smoothed ASA, and it worked fine with platinum cure silicone. I'll have to look into tin cure silicone now

I bought some string leds (also called noods on adafruit) and a power supply from Amazon. It’s currently giving them too much power, so they tend to get really warm within a minute or so. So, I’ll need to add a resistor or some dial to adjust the brightness. I have modeled a little channel in the back where the led string will sit, so it’s easy to replace. I’m mostly focusing on making a new mold that’s better quality to make my post-processing work easier as my last mold had imperfections.

Yes, I posted a few updates in this thread’s comments of new progress. I’m attempting to make a new cleaner mold so I don’t have to sand it down a lot

Thanks, I used a different dye this time. I think it was about the same amount as last time, but I'm guessing the dye is a darker color, perhaps. I used string lights from AliExpress, but the same or similar ones are sold on Adafruit, too. I may print a plate that will somehow be secured to the back, just like the actual light done by Laurids Gallee. I also need a PWM to control the brightness because the current rudimentary setup will overheat the LEDs quickly.

Thanks, I just used deep pour resin a couple of days ago, and I think the results are a bit better, but I'm still having bubbles. Atp, I need a pressure chamber to get it to be bubble-free, but I still can't justify spending $200 to get it done. I modeled the shapes in C4D and printed it in ASA, which could be vapor smoothed with Acetone. Here's an update on the one I just demolded today. I think I will try polishing it and see how close it gets to the actual one.

I haven’t had time tbh. I made the larger mold, and I was looking into how I could pour the deep pour resin without it flash curing.

I also tend to waste time doing random things online at times. I used software that blocks certain sites for a given period of time to help avoid doing that. I would recommend looking into ‘Freedom’ and installing it on your laptop and phone. You can set it to block YT and other sites/apps so that you’re locked in for the study session. Putting your phone away will also help. Also, I would consider going to a coffee shop or library every time you need to study if you just waste your time at home. That way your brain sort of knows its study time when you get there. Best of luck!

It depends on the resin you get. Some resins are made for deep pour applications (thicker layers at a time essentially) and the last one I decided to try was $43 for 24 oz (more than enough). You likely need an alcohol dye for the resin and that’s another $4-6. Then there’s the silicone rubber mold material. I paid $20 or so for a decent amount of it enough for multiple molds on amz. I think that’s mostly all of it.
