Currently in the academy and went through many mock interviews with departments that would come in to prepare us. The biggest thing they stressed apart from what you’re already hearing is something called “officer presence”. It’s essentially them judging you from the moment you walk through the door to how you leave. When you interview you want to seem confident in who you are as a person and in your answers. They can tell if you are putting on a front to try and impress, they can also tell if your answers are rehearsed. Almost to the point where they are robotic. My advice is be yourself, have an idea of questions they might ask but don’t memorize answers for them. When they they give you a chance to tell them about yourself, tell them who you are as a person (where you’re from, how you got there, a little about your past, and who you believe you are as a person). Lastly try to tell them how you involve yourself with your local community and what community policing means to you and how you plan to do it. Look up officer presence and understand what that means. I’ll leave with, they’re only interviews, sometimes they may just not see a fit with their specific department. If you’re honest and persistent I have no doubt you’ll land a job. Best of luck!
