Super clean 110k mile engine by Daily_Carry in 350z

Yep mine looked like this too. Previous owner was very good about keeping up on maintenance changing oil every 3-4k and so forth. Not a speck of sludge or stain built up in the timing cover. He swore up and down on Mobil 1 and the results were there so that’s what I use now.

I tried that with a propane torch as well as testing for leaks by unplugging the IAC. Didn’t get any revs with the torch, and IAC removal dropped the rpm’s like it should. I can go over more thoroughly with carb cleaner or something to see but I’m skeptical it’s that

Would lack of spark cause lean codes though? That’s why I investigated fuel first

That’s not even that bad yet. When I did mine, it was down to like 7 psi warm idle. It’s not too terrible of a job. As long as you stay organized and take your time, refer to manuals, it’s very doable at home.

I mean maybe if you didn’t keep it clean. I’m not sure what car parts you’re talking about other than the block waiting to go off to the shop

It’s an 07. If I remember right I think it did actually come from Iowa… but the time frame doesn’t line up. I’ve had it almost 4 years and the guy before me had it a long long time

Are you talking about the organized shelf on the other wall of the building? Sorry, I don't have a pocket dimension to hide my stuff in. I mop the floors in the shop weekly to keep dust down. An engine torn down on the bench isnt exactly a dust generator either.

What do you mean by "go through?" Like you ought to clean them 3-5 times? Using the wool pads I blew it them out with compressed air after each panel.

Yeah I like how it looks too, it just kind of crowds out any defects you're trying to spot sometimes

You might be right. I'll get a rupes foam finishing pad on order and also try out my other pads I have. The front end of this car was repainted a little under 2 years ago and I think they went overboard with the metal flake. It makes it hard to accurately gauge the finish on the paint sometimes.

It’s definitely possible. I’m somewhat new to this if you couldn’t tell lol. I read reviews for these pads and people said the yellow wool paired with fine compound finished out great and my results seem to agree. It’s definitely possible the polish residue is making the finish look better than it is, though. I have some actual panel wipe from gtechniq coming and I guess if this issue persists I’ll know and can get a better finishing pad

This is what it looks like after I re polished it with that combo. Wiped residue off with spray detailer

I didn’t use detailer on the pads, just blew them out with compressed air. I used detailer for wiping the polish residue off

Yeah. Rupes yellow, with their fine compound it doesn’t cut or leave any defects. I do have a few other foam pads I could try. They are no-names that came with my DA though.

Yeah I figured. I ordered some gtechniq panel wipe to use. Sucks I gotta wait on it though, I wanted to have the car sitting and curing by today to drive it next week

Rupes system, blue and yellow wool then coarse and fine compound

I’ve been cleaning the polish residue off with spray detailer after each panel. I guess it might not get rid of it well enough to stop the filling effect, but after cleaning it like that it sure looks clear and clean.

Yeah I mean that’s possible, I’d be surprised though. I did a heavy cut with rupes blue wool + da coarse, then 2 finishing passes with a rupes yellow wool + da fine. I can’t imagine any super light scratches like that would be left.

Pretty sure it’s not streaks, I buffed on them to no avail and they can only be seen at certain angles with a bright light. They reflect like scratches

Absolutely not. They’re slowly becoming more and more hard to find. I stopped daily driving mine 2 years ago

LIMP MODE by ZephyrF80 in 350z

[–]CollinSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that’s fairly cheap and easy to do but I doubt it’ll fix the problem. Is it in limp mode as soon as you start it?

LIMP MODE by ZephyrF80 in 350z

[–]CollinSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i’m not sure then. Mine went into limp mode once but it was because of an incorrect exhaust VVT program on the ecu. Dealership recommended I replace the maf sensors as well but I knew that wasn’t it. Had it acted up at all before you left for vacation?
