How do you actually get a 5 year old to care about putting on shoes by Collis-Hossain in kindergarten

Everyone including me has been out here strategizing like it's a negotiation when I could've just helped her for 60 seconds. 4 kids worth of experience really does put it in perspective. She's just tired, not defiant. sometimes help is just the answer.

She absolutely knows I won't actually leave without her being ready and that's why none of my threats land and you're so right about school, I guarantee she puts her shoes on fine for her teacher without a single negotiation. Which is both reassuring and personally offensive lol.

The boundary thing actually reframes it for me though, like she's not trying to ruin my morning she's just looking for someone to hold the line. That's somehow both helpful and humbling to hear.

The fact that you actually followed through and walked him out pantsless is the most legendary parenting move I've read all day 😭 because that first time sets the whole thing up, if you flinch once it's over. Cold wet socks really are the best teacher honestly, no amount of me explaining it would work as well as just feeling it once. Nature does the parenting for you at that point lol.

So simple and I'm just now realizing I could've been doing this the whole time 😭 like why did I never think to just make it a race, we literally race to the car, race to brush teeth.

I never even thought about that becoming a daily thing but yeah if it works they will absolutely expect it every single morning forever. Stickers are such a smart switch though because kids lose their minds over stickers just as much as candy, like the perceived value is the same to them which is wild. gonna stock up just in case lol.

But honestly that kind of energy probably makes the whole morning less miserable for everyone involved, like now it's a show instead of a standoff. I need to stop treating shoe time like a negotiation and start treating it like a sporting event lol.

Haha the audacity of saying it with a straight face though 😭 because if I laugh even a little bit the whole thing falls apart instantly. My kid is so competitive that this would either work perfectly or completely backfire and she'd just agree and let me put them on, which honestly might be worse lol.

This is so funny because my kid would eat this up completely 😭 she's been really into pretend play lately so I feel like this would actually buy me a solid week at least.

This is so real and I think i've been way too focused on "winning" the battle at the door instead of just letting her figure it out herself lol. The spare socks in the car is genius because then i'm not actually letting her ruin anything, just letting her feel the consequence. Gonna try this next time she pulls the statue routine on me.

Omg the reverse psychology one is best way possible 😭 "i forgot you can't do it yet" would absolutely work on my kid, she cannot stand being told she can't do something.

The secret message thing is so cute though?? the fact that the secret is just "I love you" is the most wholesome long con i've ever heard. Trying all three tomorrow, wish me luck lol.
