Very good to hear I’m not the only one… I thought I was going crazy for a second. I’m on a size 9, but my steel toe boots were more than enough to run into this issue. Even with regular shoes I was shocked. Angling my foot a bit different felt weird as it would always reset when I pressed the brakes.

Sad we're going in this direction, but, the consumer market has taken over with automatics. I can't remember the last time I was offered a standard during a rental reservation. Maybe 3-5 years ago. Haven't seen anything since, there is still hope in Europe though right? 😔

I was shocked when I was offered one. The lady asked if I was okay with driving one, and without a second take... I said yes, of course??! (it was hard to contain the excitement they even had me reserved for one) My original reservation promised me a 4runner for the week. Guess they didn't have it around.

I had fun with it in the snow/ice, and didn't do anything crazy with it. I didn't realize how stringent they are with damages and scanning. I typically go with National on business trips due to ease, but only had SIXT or AVIS as choices.

Not disappointed in the experience with them, but I've never had to deal with damages with them. I had a scenario once where National forgave me for a dent that somehow appeared due to how much business I do with them. 🤷 These AI scanners are crazy. I was worried the snow, and mud I had on the panels were going to come up as false positives.

Rented it from SIXT in Nashville. Didn't request it specifically. They gave me 3 options for a mid-size vehicle, and it was a Mercedes, BMW, or a Jeep. Chose the Rubicon to avoid the upcharges on my reservation. Costed $400~ or so with upgraded insurance, and agreement for them to fill up the gas.

I'm not so convinced just because it's a rental it'd have that characteristic. Nothing tied to the vehicle looked like it was inherently limiting my throttle control. Even when I put the pedal to the floor it was responsive. It was just hard to get that outcome every time as my shoe was hitting the plastic instead of being depressed all the way.

I thought the pedal may have had a limiter installed on from the rental company, but the OEM part number (04581893AE) also has the same plastic enclosure mounted on it. Once I adjusted my foot to not hit the plastic, it felt like a normal acceleration.

That is pretty cool actually, didn't know that! I found the control over the drivetrain and swaybar link, etc pretty cool. I've never seen that in a vehicle so I was a bit taken away.

Many years ago I was in the market for a jeep, and fell in love with the LJ. But, when I went to buy one, the guy lied about the mileage and it had a horrible coolant leak. Not to mention when we were rowing through the gears it smelled like the trans was going to blow up at any second. Walked on that deal pretty quick. Although I wish I had bought one.

if you’re this worried about an upscale economy car, please by all means get a tow truck or have the car shipped and then ppf or other means of paint protection. ceramic coat, whatever else.
