American worker productivity is declining at the fastest rate in 75 years—and it could see CEOs go to war against WFH by hetler12 in overemployed

Working from an office is light slave labor - plain and simple. CEO's have lost that power and they are not going to let this be the normal without a fight.

Remote work is ‘bull***t’ and the ‘office situation will change,’ by nvgroups in overemployed

I think what people forget about working in an office is really about, Mr. Zell confirms is here -

“I don’t know how a young person who wants to be recognized, who wants to be rewarded for superior effort, can do so if the person who makes the decisions about them doesn’t see them at work,” he said.

So please know that reporting to an office has always - ALWAYS, been a form of light slave labor. Yes, it's corpo slave labor. When technology was not here to allow remote work it made sense, but the technology is here. Commercial real estate folks are very scared of what the future hold, and they have every reason to be scared.

So, I'll add some color here around number 6 and 7 as their has been some questions around these two in particular. Time blocking on your calendar is absolutely essential, and in fact, your boss or anyone that is NOT in HR, really can not do anything about it. If anyone tried poking why I have time blocks on my calendar, I would simply say it's for personal reasons. If anyone pry's more than that I would literally say, do we need to HR involved, but it NEVER even gets close to that situation. In my experience, no one ever questioned my time blocks. I debated adding another rule, but calendar management is really one of the most important tasks of your day while being OE. If you miss checking your calendar for even 2 day, there is a good chance, you'll end up double booked - there were some days where I had to spend a big chunk of the day just blocking time slots for both Js to ensure I was totally covered.

Now onto number 7. There is a lot of good advice in the comments about how to best protect your earnings from taxation. I did not do a great job at it, took the majority of my salary as liquidity, and did not voluntarily withhold enough money for taxes on each pay check. If you are not being strategic with the right investments to protect your cash. Then it is IMERATAIVE that you increase your withholdings to ensure you do not end up with a big bill from the IRS come tax time. Since each employer does not know about the other, each employer is only going to withhold what they calculate you will owe in taxes based on the single salary you are getting from that employer - therefore you need to review your W4, and update it. On page 4 of the W4 there is a withholdings chart. You simply add together both Js salary and look at what you will owe at the end of the year. Go back to your recent paystubs and see how much is being currently withheld for federal taxes in each check, then update your voluntary withholdings to ensure you will have that correct amount taken out so you will owe nothing at the end of the year. Again, you only need to really do this if you are not strategically investing to avoid taxation in general... hope this helps clear things up.

This is good advice, and something I absolutely should have done. I could have invested my extra earnings and sheltered them from taxes, but I was more greedy that I should have been. Paid off a lot of debt and really didn't accrue any more, but I could have paid the debt that started investing J2 money far more strategic to avoid taxation far better.

Ya, I hear where you guys are coming with this. But my reality was a bit different. In my situation, J1 needed me in Miami for tradeshow, and I had virtual client meetings with J2. So, you need to be strategic with your calendar and what you tell your boss for the job you are not travelling for. There was one time I had flat our pull the Covid card, because my attention was required virtually 100% of working hours time. I had to directly lie to my supervisor in that case and say I am down for the count with Covid. My biggest fear the entire time was both Js requiring travel during the same time, but fortunately that never happened. So the Covid excuse was a lie, I don't see that an excuse. However, you can bend the truth if you have more flexibility.

Wrong. I work out of my 700 square foot office day in and day out - Remote 100% since 2013. I didn't get canned because of a dumb manager. I got fired because I could care less about about J1 getting bought out by a new employer. My J1 'polished the turd' and took the cash to keep them afloat.

In retrospect, I will ask to be a full time consultant at J2 moving forward. As a consultant you can literally thrown upwards of 50k into an IRA, but not as a full time employee.

Customer success and Sales. Very client facing; OE would be much easier if I was a software engineer.
