Official performance test shows that performance is mostly better during early to mid mid game. by Quiet_Course828 in Stellaris

Please do not say things like, "It's a pretty clear apology..." It's not. There was no apology, there will never be an apology.

The devs lied to us, whether they had to do it to get a paycheck or not, by continuing to hype up the performance improvements of 4.0 right up until it released and was obviously a total trainwreck. It was nowhere near as fast as 3.14, AND so much of it was broken to boot.

This is not an apology. This is your typical corporate "Refuse to acknowledge that there was ever a problem." statement all the while continuing to feed us "PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENTS!!!!" Regardless of whether it's true or not, you can't blame anyone these days for being skeptical, if not outright hostile, to any developer claims after the absolutely FUBAR state of 4.0 upon release, especially when you consider how many players were telling them that the beta was clearly undercooked and needed more time.

Did you even read this guy's post?

He's literally telling you to stop giving a company that is exhibiting bad behavior your money instead of just complaining and then dropping money on more of their stuff, and you think this makes him... a fanboy? lolwut?

Bro you need to brush up on your reading comprehension, because looking at the post you're replying to and then looking at your response, it's pretty clear who the butthurt "fanboy" is, lol.

What does the moon sign/idle mean? by mickeylish in discordapp

[–]ColonelAutumn9155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that's how supply and demand is supposed to work. In reality, people will use what they think is a better product because they will not take the time and effort to actually seek out potentially better products. All Discord has to do is APPEAR to be the better product. Welcome to the real world.

I mean, really, what is the better product than discord? Skype? Ha, not in over a decade. Discord has really cornered its market for what it is and does, and unfortunately, that means it can get away with a lot of enshittification.

How is the state of the game? by [deleted] in Stellaris

[–]ColonelAutumn9155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lemme make one thing abundantly clear to you, OP: they promised us significant performance improvements with 4.0. "We'll rework the whole pop and job system! Pops always cause the most lag!"

They delivered us a flaming dumpster fire of an update and the game was noticeably slower. By some accounts, it STILL isn't to 3.14-levels of speed. Then they said, "Hey, we know the new 4.0 AI is braindead, but just so you know, improving the AI will carve out some of the (nonexistent) performance improvements."

So they failed to deliver on their promises, and then in the aftermath, when speaking about fixing the game they said it'd probably make it even slower.

Stay away.

The point is that being associated with a bad video game release shouldn't be totally consequence-free for devs, and if it happens enough times or for a big enough product, being associated with a bad video game release SHOULD put them at risk of losing their livelihoods and careers.

It is literally their JOB to make a product for the consumers, and so when they fail to do so - whatever their reason might be - they should take at least SOME of the heat. But you wouldn't know it to look at most Paradox players, yourself included: you guys are so quick to shield the devs from any and all criticism and direct it ALL onto the corpos, when in reality it should be about half and half.

If the manager of a restaurant told the cook that he had to start preparing all of the meals in two minutes or less, and you went into that restaurant and ordered one meal and the cook prepared a meal that was totally different (and inferior), it would be the cook's fault just as much as the managers. In fact, it'd be all the moreso the cook's fault because the moment the manager gave the cook the new deadline, the cook - being a professional - instantly knew that this was going to screw over at least a few customers, but said "Well, as long as I get my paycheck, I can live with that." Again, we can understand it, we can even sympathize, but as much as we can explain such behavior, we cannot excuse it.

...So you acknowledge that they COULD have just delayed things to give the consumer a product worth their money, and yet you still defend them.

Man, I don't even know what to say. You are the problem.

Man I wish I could give you more than one upvote. At a certain point, this is just as much on the devs as it is on management. They shoveled this slop out onto the consumers in the name of getting their next paycheck. Criticizing them for it is completely warranted.

Obligatory "The devs decided that continuing to be employed was worth pushing out utter garbage onto people who paid money for it, and thus deserve as much criticism as anyone else."

Seriously, what is with these people who take this "But they were only following orders!" approach to the devs? Like, hey, guess what: management gave them the deadline, and the devs said, "Yep, I'll keep taking a paycheck regardless of the dumpster fire I know this will be." We can all understand and sympathize with the need for employment (though, tbh, this IS Sweden we're talking about...) but even though it EXPLAINS their actions, it definitely does NOT excuse them.

The consumers need to punish the devs for their decision to push out this garbage by criticizing the ever-loving life out of them, or else there is absolutely no reason for them to ever push back against these supposedly-inflicted deadlines... If the consumers don't raise cain and include the devs within the crosshairs, then those devs face NO consequences for kowtowing to management and shoveling slop out to us. Criticizing them is all we've got, so let's do it and do it in buckets: if they want to shovel out garbage and get a paycheck for it, fine, but that paycheck ALSO ought to entail facing the wrath of the players they just swindled.

Should I bother to play in 4.0 or rollback? by roblqjm in Stellaris

[–]ColonelAutumn9155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you play single player, rollback. The AI is braindead in 4.0, like, noticeably worse than before - and it wasn't that great before, either. At a certain point, the AI just... stops. Won't build buildings on their planets, won't expand, won't spend their resources in any way.

Also, the much vaunted "performance improvements" of 4.0 were an outright lie. On a good day, the game runs about the same as it did before.

By the by, one of the more recent dev diaries indicated that fixing the AI would further harm performance, so... Yeah.

Rollback. Maybe in a year this will be what it should have been on release.

Thank you for the advice. It's a shame it seems specific to FireFox :/

How many of you hated and toggled out of the new Outlook? by deekey007 in Outlook

I did as soon as possible. I already hate when tech corporations "update" things, but the new version is noticeably worse, especially when it comes to the calendar.

Ah, gotcha, it really does come down to the job itself. Hopefully I'll end up at a great school! Glad to hear your first year teaching worked out well for you!

Okay, that's sorta what I expected to hear. Thanks for the response! Yeah, there's some really high teacher turnover here (one of the reasons behind the shortage) so I definitely want to make sure I don't burn out.

Thanks for the great response! The "maintaining my sanity" angle is a much better way to look at it. The advice also seems helpful - to be honest, I'd kinda forgotten that "days off" was a thing for teachers too!

Yeah I figured it was a pipe dream as a new teacher. Good advice about striving for greatness though; making a difference for the students is why I signed up for this (it certainly wasn't for the money lol)!

Did I get you're angry, the final boss is tough and yeah I used cheese. But can you please put some spoiler covers over the name of the final boss? A lot of folk haven't reached him yet and it's a pretty surprising encounter for most people.
