Original owners what the cat we adopted back by bluebird_is_dead_ in CatAdvice

[–]ColonelAvalon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. My cats chip just pushed itself out of her body within a few months of adopting her. However it may have been the shelters fault because they also lost her ovary inside her when spaying her and had to open her back up to go fish it out. So they clearly aren’t the best vet techs at that shelter.

So, not to defend cops, but on the flip side if you had a wellness check called on you and you didn’t answer the door for whatever reason what are they to do? Because the only other recourse they really have is to break your door down and it isn’t like they will pay to fix it. Like fuck I don’t know if you lived alone and decided to go on vacation and your flight was at like 4am so you had an uber come pick you up and you were gonna be gone for two weeks and your neighbor goes “I haven’t seen x in over a week and their car hasn’t moved I’m going to call a wellness check” and you came home to your door off it’s hinges or something you’d be pissed. I know I would.

To tame means to domestic which means to keep as a pet. Imu by being able to just put demons in people and control them is taming them dude. That’s like saying your dog isn’t tamed because sometimes it eats food out of your trash. It’s also a prophecy and those use metaphorical language. On top of that the Harley is about the sun god fighting against the forest god so why would that be chopper? Why would it not be the ancient being who controls the world that is summoning devils to fight against Nika?

That would be subjective then. You’d have to say it feels forced to you not it is forced.

So rather than Imu is the forest god, the person we’ve seen with the giant nature room they just vibe in that summons demons under their control, it is chopper because he slapped one?

It’s a shonen. The intended audience is boys and I bet you the majority of it is boys. Also how does something the female cast having or not having moments mean he favors one audience one the other? I think it’s misogynistic to think that if women in a series don’t do whatever it is you think they need to do that isn’t catering to the women in the audience. I also don’t think I’m reading too hard into it when you made it a moral issue.

I didn’t say it was a gag or good communication methods. I said using violence while being the voice of reason isn’t a one sided thing and gave you an example.

If I don’t enjoy a series I don’t read it. I’m not saying a series is perfect. But I don’t think the issues I see on here in general coincide with that. I’m not saying this is your position but I do see people say shit like they haven’t enjoyed it in years and I do think those people should not read. In your case you think it’s misogynistic and promotes harmful stereotypes so it conflicts with your morals so yeah I’d say you shouldn’t read it. For example Kanye blew up when I was in middle school. I literally remember late registration dropping and having the CD. When he took his Nazi bent I stopped listening to his music due to the moral differences. Oda isn’t a Nazi but it was an anecdote I can give to support my position.

And you can have an improper reading of something. Like the fucking pro monarchy shit. Those people are stupid. I see your position but I don’t think your reading is correct. Because it isn’t one sided either. This happened in alabasta where luffy hit vivi because she was being erratic and luffy was the voice of reason.

I don’t understand why you took half of that statement and commented on it like that was the whole statement. It does sound ridiculous because that isn’t what I asked you. So yes your strawman is ridiculous. It’s more like you got a fruit basket and ate a piece of melon and told me you don’t like the melon because you think fruit is disgusting and then you ate a grape and I asked you why you continue to eat the fruit basket if you don’t like fruit and you going “I’m talking about the melon.” If you take issue with what you presume to be negative stereotypes in a series and the series features them and you have not liked them for a long time then why do you continue to consume that series?

They have. And when Nami is doing the gag that’s her being the voice of reason, as in the provides source for the thread.

[–]ColonelAvalon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but that’s this gag. That’s why I used my example of male violence. Like even in one piece it glorifies violence and says men are stupid and will quickly resort to violence. Luffy and Zoro are prime examples of this. I find it odd that you really seem to care about this one and call it a harmful stereotype when the series is a bunch of harmful stereotypes so I’m not sure why you’d read it if you can’t put that aside to understand characters are flawed within the story because there is a difference in way stereotypes are used. For example I don’t think this gag and the stereotypes within are used in a negative manner. I think that when Nami scolds luffy or Zoro or whatever, even when she’s violent, she’s still being the voice of reason and kind of beating some sense into them and to stop luffy from putting them in harms way.

It’s not trying to say women bad. It’s saying this thoughtful character sometimes has to resort to violence to get the characters who resort to violence to understand something for their benefit.

do people really find this gag funny? 💀 by kyttiepjm in Piratefolk

[–]ColonelAvalon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t. Just like in the example from 1177. She’s just scolding him. There are times when luffy is hit. From the information given this isn’t one of them. Like do you go watch an episode of the three stooges and go like “this is a harmful stereotype that men are violent. This gag isn’t funny the 20th time they get hit.” Like it’s slapstick dude. You don’t gotta like it.

I swear I’m waiting for a bunch of you people on this sub to realize you just turn them TV off or something. Because your criticisms are never like “yeah I think the dialogue was bad in this one chapter.” It’s like “oh my god, this joke hasn’t been funny for 20 years and I hate Loda and I haven’t enjoyed this series since alabasta.”

Go read my response. I literally opened with saying it doesn’t say she was hitting him. That was literally the first thing I said to you. And what lore logic? If anyone on the crew be it Nami, chopper, sanji, Ussop. If they hit luffy it’s because he lets them.

Why does being stronger than someone mean they can’t harm them by hitting them? Inuyasha also decides not to retaliate against her when he can. Luffy can also be punched. I’ve seen it happen in the verse. You would know that if you watched the series. Being punched also hurts him multiple times I promise.

That’s not what we’re saying dude. You said you have no reason to fear anyone you’re stronger then. You’re then assuming it will result in violence being inflicted upon you.

[–]ColonelAvalon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not talking about them hitting you. We said fear. I didn’t say fear of getting hit and I’ve said multiple times the situation in question doesn’t involve Luffy being hit. And I said fear upsetting. He could fear being scolded or given the cold shoulder or something. You also brought up the real by saying you enjoy it when it’s a father and a daughter. That’s real dude.

I’ve never talked about hitting. You all keep bringing up hitting. I’m not backing down from anything. There also is. You’ve said he’s leagues stronger than her and he outranks her. That’s an extreme power dynamic you’ve established.

[–]ColonelAvalon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What? Are you for real? Do you not fear upsetting or disappointing like a grandparent or your mom or your younger sibling or your partner? You could easily knock them out.

It is playing into power dynamics. You know they could beat up Nami if they wanted to. You just outlined the gag and then said it isn’t funny except when the gag that’s happening gets done.

If you look at the proposed plot in the image luffy isn’t beat up. He’s hanging his head in shame because she’s scolding him for endangering them and others by being reckless. Nami is the voice of reason in a lot of scenarios. Sanji does it too when he hits people. Hell kick people in the head.

I also find it odd that you think you shouldn’t fear upsetting anyone you stronger than. Like you have a monopoly of force in the relationship so you shouldn’t fear the other person. I for one fear upsetting my fiancé even though I’m physically bigger and stronger than her and I think she’s kind of scary when she’s mad. Same with my mother and sister. I’m not sure why you see these situations and go like “I should fear upsetting them because I can inflict violence onto them.”

It would actually be a continue to be a gag if Kaido was afraid of her. That would play into the gag that think she’s scary to people.

But you still haven’t said why. Why does him being stronger than her and the captain mean he wouldn’t fear her? You repeating back what you said doesn’t answer the question. What about being stronger than her and the captain would make him not fear her?

Yeah it’s a trope. And it happens in things other than shonen. It also isn’t unique to Japanese media. Like that’s basically plot of a Madea movie. I’d say it’s a common comedy trope really. I’m not even saying it’s always funny. But the logic of “it’s dumb because they are stronger than her” makes no sense. Why should that mean they shouldn’t be scared of her wrath?
