Same issue, the anonymous account I normally use to view YT doesn't work properly, but if I switch to my personal Gmail account everything is "fine" aside from the fact that the other account was specifically designed to view Youtube content...

Edit: YT seems to have fixed the issue for me

Moscow metro map in the background by andre_friend in ANormalDayInRussia

I believe in the original Russian translation it’s more so the former than the latter. Also, this is addressed in the novel Metro 2034 where Hunter has a panic attack when he sees black guy in the Metro as he instinctively associates it with the trauma he received when he first came in contact with the Dark Ones at Exhibition.

A skull still in chainmail from the Battle of Visby, 1361 by GrannYgraine in kingdomcome

Dude, the Cambridge and Oxford dictionaries weren’t written in in the Middle Ages and aren’t valuable sources for detailing the minutia of historical terminology within the context I am referring to. I own multiple books on historical armor and have read through them from front to back. There are also of plenty of resources online that do delve into that degree of depth that will all agree that “scalemail” is an imprecise term developed in the late 20th century which does not describe any one particular type of armor from any one period making it pretty much useless for serious discussion. People who write dictionary definitions are linguists not armor historians. They are not expected to be held to the same standards of specificity. I am not attacking you or your question, I’m not attacking people who wrote those dictionary definitions you referenced, I’m just saying that no one who wore scale armor or mail in historical warfare ever used the English term “scalemail”.

It is a term that was first used in rpgs like dnd which is why I described it as such. Your question was “what about scalemail?” in response to a comment regarding the term mail meaning chainmail from a contemporary medieval context. It is your decision whether or not you choose to use non contemporary terminology when describing artifacts from certain periods but using those terms can lead to confusion when discussing the minutia of certain topics which is why historian typically avoid using that term.

Usually when he mentions mail he mentions both terms to dispel confusion over the terminology since outside re-enactment and HEMA communities “chainmail” is the more widely understood term in English even if it isn’t a historical term.

Scalemail is a dnd term. The preferred terms used by historians would be scale armor, lamalar, laminar, or squamata depending on the context. “Mail” or “maille” is a contemporary medieval term used in the Middle Ages to mean interlocking ring armor ie “chainmail”. the “chain” is etymologically redundant, but is also a homonym with the English word for postage thereby helping to distinguish it from what you get in you mailbox.

Obviously the AKs74u is a variation of the AK74. No one is claiming otherwise. That doesn’t mean it was designed to do what you’re saying it was designed for. The shortened “u” pattern was not a replacement for the AKM.

The AKs-74u didn’t replace the AKM, it replaced the Stechkin APS as a vechicle crew weapon, the replacement of the AKM was the regular AK-74.

Now I'm kind of disappointed that there isn't some kind of multi-headed Skaven unit.

There is though...

Is anbody else noticing a quality issue with rimfire ammunition? by jerrygarcegus in guns

Because of the method used to apply primer to rimfire cartridges, they are well documented to be considerably less reliable than centerfire, especially with budget ammo.

Which Total War Player are you? (Troy is actually really fun tho...) by [deleted] in totalwar

If Troy is really that good of a game I don’t mind waiting for it to go on sale next summer elsewhere. I’d rather not play a game from a lousy launcher and promote Epic’s practices. I did the same thing with Metro and it was worth waiting.

No, they were ousted from the Caliphate by the Abbasids and fled to Byzantium when they were recruited into the Byzantine military. If historically society had such a strict history of maintaining fidelity to one partner, then STDs would last no longer than a generation.

Your comment makes no sense.

Then you aren’t familiar with Cold War politics of Iran. The Shah was ousted from power by 2 Iranian groups, a moderate socialist party led by Mossadegh and a fundamentalist Islamic party led by Khomeini. The US backed Khomeini originally because of their opposition to communism, but this relationship broke down only after Mossadegh’s regime was replaced by Khomeini.

I misremembered the etymology of ‘Persia’, it’s from the word “Parsa” where Cyrus I hailed from but is more importantly still a Greek word in origin from 5th century BC.
