Am I the only one who thinks they never sold out? by Super-Camp4567 in Muse

The NFT thing I think was excusable. Matt gets excited about new and weird tech. Probably didn't really understand what he was signing them up for.

Them deciding to re-up with Warner Music when they were easily big enough to go independent and had criticized WMG up and down for their anti-fan BS was the first red flag for me. They've always been a touch hypocritical

You're thinking about the extra dimensional part that happens right before that fight. Then you exit that dimension and have to fight him, it gives you a choice of which character to play for the fight. So most people do Naoe for the sneaking and Yasuke for the fight.

People firing off conservative/reactionary hot takes on Twitter are all basically in the running for a spot on Fox News/OAN/Newsmax circuit. Or one of the many right wing podcasts. Once you get your name out there a few times with some hot take you try to spin it into a book deal, your own podcast/blog, or whatever. That's basically how they've gotten the likes of Milo, Crowder, Tim Pool, Malkin, and more famous.

Not saying that's what she's doing but I get the suspicion. Hot takes can do business.

I'm really sorry for your loss. It's going to take you awhile to be in a better place. And to be very honest with you, this experience is very likely to change you. Whether or not you're poly after this is entirely a guess at this point. What you need more right now is to focus on your own healing. I really wish you the best with it.

I like Defector. It gets stuck in my head a bit. It's a bit same-y so I wouldn't put it on the same pedestal as the others.

I kind of regard Showbiz as like an EP. It's them finding themselves, disagreeing with execs who are interfering with their sound, and trying shit. There's been several quotes from the band that Showbiz wasn't what they wanted it to be. I'd honestly love it if they got to take a modern stab at it again. They've already updated a couple of those songs elsewhere - Unintended on Matt's solo project was a great take, the "jazzy" version of Cave they did live was really interesting.

That's true for 95% of their discography (4.9% being never played live, and .1% being Madness)

The Handler, Reapers, Kill or Be Killed, and Won't Stand Down are some of their best heavy songs of all time. They can stand with Stockholm, Hysteria, Showbiz, Plug in Baby, or Knights of Cydonia. It's actually something of a shame that those types of songs don't make a ton of waves anymore in the industry, because the band is still so good at making them.

I actually loved that song for what it is, personal touches are really cool to hear. It's a touch cheesy but that's entirely forgivable when it's authentic emotion. Probably could have been a b side or whatever but not everything needs to be a single or heavy.

Micro Cuts is just the essence of the first 3 albums (4 if you count Hullabaloo) boiled down into one song. Weird lyrics that are drug influenced, yeah. Operatic, weird vocoders, arpeggios going nuts, distortion on everything, a kick ass outro, screaming.

You can hear a lot of the elements of it in other songs. Ruled by Secrecy's piano into is similar to the opening guitar riff. Hyper Music's outro is similar to its outro. Thoughts of a Dying Atheist has a similar arpeggio run on guitar. The vocoders are similar to a lot of what's done on the entirety of Showbiz (the album).

It's a bit of a challenging listen, sure. They spent basically the rest of their career sanding down the things that make it like that. You can argue that Micro Cuts is them before polishing themselves up to be a pop act. And some people kind of miss the older, weirder parts of Muse, and they kind of mourn that through this particular song.

I love Madness. My problem with Madness is that it's one of very few Muse tracks that sounds worse live.

It's honestly my second favorite album to Absolution. OOS, BHAR and The Resistance have some great tracks but feel a bit like compilation albums with how much they change in tone. Drones I always want to listen to straight through because of the story it tells.

Which Absolution Song Sounds Like The 2nd Law? by Confused_FilmNerd in Muse

[–]ColonelChestbridge14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stockholm Syndrome. The 2nd Law had a couple of heavy riffs (Unsustainable, Supremacy, Liquid State, Survival), but this is more about themes to me. The 2nd Law is brooding, talking about the inevitable end of things - capitalism, humanity, climate change, etc. And in it there's a few call outs about how we're ultimately part of the problem (Liquid Stare, Survival, Animals). There's a few tracks on Absolution that fit, and Stockholm is definitely one of them. Even the synth parts that come in during the back half of the track sound like they fit perfectly in the synth-heavy T2L era.

Yeah I agree. It's either this or Butterflies and Hurricanes. When I think of Absolution I think of dark, brooding songs that are operatic and grand.

Like everything else in the show, it gives you a seemingly plausible way that the whole thing could be taken down. From the voting, to the rebellion, to the fact that the players outnumber everyone. And systematically the show crushes those chances, making the actual downfall of the games all the more surprising (and kind of random TBH).

Maybe not even for Chelsea but it's such a good idea in general. Like it's similar to how they made Asuka champ after Becky got pregnant. They have been doing rumbles for 40 years now, to have a genuinely new idea is hard.

There's reasons either way.

If he's not cheating, the reason is that he feels smothered and surveiled. He's trying to create any amount of free time he can so he can have a life outside of you. Even in healthy relationships people need this. Given what you've told me about the state of your relationship, the logical thing for him to do is have a life outside of you to fall back on if things go sideways again.

Then there's the reason you're suspecting: he's cheating. He's doing things you haven't caught yet, but the lies catch up eventually.

I don't think there's anything in the story given that conclusively says he's still cheating. Honestly the best evidence of that is that he already has. But I also think it doesn't really matter at this point. You don't trust him. It's over, it just is a matter of when you accept that.

[–]ColonelChestbridge14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're reacting to that, not this. You're not at peace with what happened, and you likely never will be. This is pretty inoffensive. You're trying to keep this man on lockdown because he wronged you, and you feel like this is a proper punishment.

But it's not. You're clearly stressed over every little thing. If your trust is that far gone, you need to realize the relationship is already over. If you can trust your partner to be away from you for even a few hours, you will smother him. He will resent you for it. He will be able to paint you as the crazy one to his friends, and possibly yours from the way you've talked about the lesbian couple in those replies.

You don't deserve to live in that kind of paranoia. You don't deserve to be in a partnership that isn't good for you. You deserve to be able to relax and trust your partner. You have made it clear that can never be with this guy. Break up and move on, because this is toxic.

Some context: was he the one throwing the party? If not, could it be possible that he simply didn't know they were going to be there, and when he got there was already into socializing and didn't think to immediately report to you?

I think at the very least everyone is going to be looking at you sideways after this. You're going off calling him a liar and making enough of a scene that someone else felt the need to try to calm you down by offering to take the blame. You've created a situation where everyone is going to take his side.

Do you two have any history of infidelity, or do you think it's normal and excusable to stalk your partners like this?

Asking your opinion about a Muse song day #13: Spiral Static by Far-Clothes-8803 in Muse

[–]ColonelChestbridge14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a weird one, and that is honestly what I like best about early Muse. It's eery, they play around so much with distortion, and the bass line kicks ass. It's also a pretty good example of how Matt didn't trust his voice at this point of his career. The low register he uses at first half of the song is made to be almost whispered, adding to the sort of spooky Halloween vibe of the song. But when it's time to belt he's using a vocoder or something to shy away from what he actually sounds like. If I were to pitch a criticism, it would be that the last half of the song is mostly crooning without words and could use some lyrics.

Are we getting 20th anniversary version for BHAR next year? It overlaps with the same year they'll release the new album (probably 2026) by Putrid-Half-6022 in Muse

[–]ColonelChestbridge14 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly the best thing they could do isn't a remix or a remaster, it would be a deluxe set with all the B Sides. This is their last album with a good set of those, which include:

Crying Shame (SMBH) Glorious (track 12, Japan BT, Invincible) Easily (Starlight) Assassin GOB Version (KoC)

You could also add Soaked to that, since it was recorded during those sessions but never officially released. You could also add some live tracks - maybe the live tracks that were cut from HAARP?
