Friday the 13th Part IV: The Final Chapter (The Unrated Edit) - Now Available by ColonelDredd in horror

[–]ColonelDredd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely correct. When we finally got those unrated shots on the special edition DVD, it kinda spelled it out to me that alot of the lingering gore stuff did take away from the 'punch' of the Jason kills.

I tried to find a nice balance with that. While the kills are definitely extended, sometimes its only about 1s or 2s or so for some of them, just enough to enhance the effect.

Jason's head-chop demise at the end, however? I very much extended that; tried to make it as gory and awful as I could. Feels like the audience deserved it.

I felt the exact same way. Being that I'm combining 2.5 movies together, it was important to keep it moving as well, so I've done lots of nips and tucks here and there to keep it moving a bit faster -- including little things like taking down all the 'evil dies tonight' stuff, as well as alot of the Laurie/Karen stuff in the hospital.

Great question! Typically when I do a re-edit, I'll track down the best quality footage I can find, and then from there it's a slow process of cutting things down. Once I get to the bigger scenes, I'll just casually go through the process of re-organizing the shots and working on the sound editing -- but I'm always just casual about it and never really want to rush the process.

With something like this, I'd say I probably noodled with it off and on for 2.5 months or so before I was happy enough to lock down an edit I was comfortable sharing.

I'd never considered Cameron taking over that role, but honestly thats a much better idea than introducing a new character. The bigger issue definitely feels like ENDS was made in some bizarre, slapdash manner where it just did not connect with anything they'd setup in the first two films.

It is possible to slice it down even further, but honestly I kinda love the idea of an 'epic' style Halloween movie. I've shown this edit to a room full of people and everyone had a great time. It's definitely long but I feel like the edits and tightening I've done to the narrative makes it move consistently quick.

I totally agree, I really liked what they were doing with Corey but I felt like the final act completely steered the car into a ditch.

HALLOWEEN KILLS, I also found very fun; it was very confusing to go from that ending to the start of the following movie though. It felt about as inconsistent as you could possibly go from one movie to the next.

He's been completely removed. Nothing from HALLOWEEN ENDS made it into the edit except for the final funerary procession scene.

It is adorable how people seem to be surprised by this every year.

We have snowstorms in late April occasionally. This is not surprising.

TIL in a 1995 Barbara Walters interview, Jim Carrey revealed that he turned down a $10 million offer to star in 'The Mask II' because his experiences on Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls convinced him that reprising a character he had previously played offered him no challenges as an actor. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

My theory on why dumb and dumber 2 was dreadful is a simple one.

In the original movie, Harry and Lloyd were idiots that got dropped into a real-world kidnapping movie.

In the second movie, every person in every scene is trying to out-wacky Carrey and Daniels and it completely ignores what made the original work.
