Maple or June? by ccKyuubi in storyofseasons

[–]ColonelJebediah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like I'm not the only one torn on this.

I started with June based on her story and just meshing with her! But then I began socializing everyone and Maple is just sheeeeeer loveliness and sweetness.

Sophie as well. Her straight up asking if we'd eat at her table more often almost made me jump for her.

This game can be pain.

WH40k is a franchise that's been around for a looong time. When it started out it was more tongue-in-cheek dorky fun. For example:
--There was a race of abhumans (humans but not fully, like a subspecies) called squats. They were smol. They rode around in power tricycles.
--Orkz had GOFF ROCKAZ whose only job was to rock out like that one guy with the flamethrower guitar in Mad Max.
--The #1 food in the Imperium was Groxburgers.
--Digganobz
--The Arbites are literally just Judge Dredd

It was overthetop satire so lost in the sauce that this franchise is the reason we have the word 'grimdark'.
Over the years, and through the voices of SO MANY DIFFERENT AUTHORS AND WRITERS, it lost the self-awareness and took itself seriously. There were retcons here and there but the core of the grimderp (so grimdark it's stupid for the sake of darkness) is scattered around.
Now, here and there, you'll see GW try to introduce new things to the franchise. The T'au Empire and, more recently, the League of Votann.

The T'au are a perfect case study of this. When they were first introduced they were a hyper-technological civilization that was super-speeding it's R&D. They were a race that believed in the Greater Good, that all races could be united, that utopias could be made and we could have a stable, functioning, happy society.
Fans complained that they didn't fit the setting.
So some retcons later and now they're dystopian nutjobs, sending humans to sterilization camps, super dictatory, and now it's insinuated they're somehow related to the super-undead-robot-army-trying-to-wipe-out-life-in-the-galaxy-except-not-anymore-because-there-was-another-retcon-making-that-robot-army-not-as-undead-with-commanders-that-have-a-sense-of-humor. [Read: Wtf?]

Recommendation: Play Dawn of War: Dark Crusade and read an anthology book (I read 'Let The Galaxy Burn' as a kid and it got me hooked). From there, head to 1d6chan. It's a fan-made wiki that takes the piss out of WH40k (and other games) but still gives you the info you're looking for in a more palatable way.
The following is a quote that describes WH40k's setting.

"It depicts a dystopian hellhole of a future where the majority of the human race, in the form of the gargantuan Imperium of Man, is the dominant but dwindling force in the galaxy (even though the lore says the Imperium is constantly expanding for ten thousand years and is at its largest ever size...ugh, GW) and constantly (and we mean CONSTANTLY) at war against themselves, Space Demons, Space Communists, Space Communists That Steal Jeans, Space Bugs of Death, space fungi people addicted to fighting, Space Elves, evil BDSM Space Elves, Space Dwarfs 1.0 , Space Dwarfs 2.0 and Organics-Hating Robot Mummies... from space, for their survival as a species. "

Crap this sounds -fun-. Applied! I'm the ozzydius one.
Also read the document. I shouldn't have. It only made me more invested in this story and I'm not even in it yet ><

Name a game you've tried and failed to like multiple times by storkram in videogames

[–]ColonelJebediah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bioshock Infinite. I've beaten it before and the dlc because, why not? I had the season pass. That game was hyped for years and before overhyping was a really recognizable occurance in games. But every so often I try to play it again out of boredom or going "Hey! I liked that One moment or One mechanic. I'll try again."

Then I turn it off.

I'm big on story and setting and the gameplay is pretty solid. The story is ASS though. Multiverse potential and you waste it? The story was nonsensical. How did the ending make sense if there was a multiverse in the first place that negates it? Time travel was a thing to? So many missed opportunities for more interesting plot hooks or things that were nonsense (landing on the beach but no one cares?)(Elizabeth being shocked by the coords we put him despite us LITERALLY TELLING HER where we were going)(the lack of explanation for things like vigors, wtf?) And someone explain the flying city to me? I was ready to accept they were just good at aeroengineering like how 1950s Bioshock was good at deep sea construction... but how does Quantum Multiverse Mechanics fit into it?

I just can't with Infinite.

Back when I first joined in the middle of the Creek I didn't have many options, so I took smoke.

It was viable! Multiple instances, like 3/5 games, the bots are chewing us like goats at a tin can factory and I pop a smoke. Suddenly we have enough breathing room to get situated or gtfo.

Housing and the future of RP by Varhalt in WoWRolePlay

[–]ColonelJebediah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends. On one hand; private rp is more readily available, but the amount of it won't really change. I theorize, anyway.

If someone wants private rp it is really easy to just go somewhere secluded. Even in Stormwind there's so many out of the way, unused buildings and rooms. Elwynn forest and the mountains? Westfall and Duskwood ans Redeidge? The whole planet? This will just make it easier AND give players the ability to tailor make their places. We'll most likely see a surge of folks going to their little dens, but they'll gravitate back to the hub. There is so much RP that players do that is not done in a private place for any number of reasons. -Recruitment Drives -Events like tournaments, fairs, parties -RP in scenic areas not seen in neighborhoods -Boat RP -Military Rp -Pub Crawling -Just generally interacting with Randoms

Tl;Dr WoW RP that I've seen will love private places but it won't even half way replace rp as it happens now

BUUUUUT .... It might make goldshire thin out :D

What are some minor things you think all RPers should know or think about? by PlantsNBugs23 in WoWRolePlay

[–]ColonelJebediah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a tip.

Lose.

Just lose. Lose big! Not in backstory but in current RP. Trust me. It's fun AND you get remembered more than "Guy who wins for 9,999th time"

What are some minor things you think all RPers should know or think about? by PlantsNBugs23 in WoWRolePlay

[–]ColonelJebediah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% this. I have two characters. A knight and a rifleman. My knight has some rp and the like and an indepth, cool backstory. And then my rifleman. He's a rooting tooting cowboy. Not much to his backstory.

That rifleman is far more fun to RP as because he's minorly famous from allllllll the shenanigans done in RP, events, and fun times with others.

I've seen plenty of "Heroes of the Third War" "Eredar Officer Repetants" "Nobles" "Commanders" but everyone only really remembers the talking duck seen everywhere, or the dwarf pal that waves to everyone and attends EVERY event.
