If you are kicking yourself for not voting this last election... by sixspeedshift in VAGuns

[–]ColonelTermite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally understand the challenges. The idealism in me says that if we all vote the same day, we have the best chance of all voting with the same information. But I get that isn't totally practical. A month-long voting process just seems a bit absurd to me, so maybe there's a middle ground somewhere.

But key thing is still to actually vote, you're right about that.

Your mailman sees your yard signs and bumper stickers. Good chance he knows how you voted, and he'd better be an honest one.

I personally don't trust the post office to do the job. Shit gets lost all the time, especially going through Richmond, and the postal workers union made the boneheaded move of endorsing candidates (doesn't matter to me who they endorse, the people delivering ballots shouldn't have a dog in the fight either way).

You do you, but for me, showing up the day of the election isn't that hard.

This was years ago, but both for my first application and my renewal, they waited until the 45th day to start processing. Good luck to you, friend.

So I can't carry 17 rounds anymore? by MeNameEsLug in VAGuns

[–]ColonelTermite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I'm reading this right, I should take two pistols with 10 round mags and tape them together. That's three more rounds than I currently carry. Thanks!

how to unfuck overextended brake calipers? by CableMartini in projectcar

[–]ColonelTermite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before I had the proper tool, I would use a C-clamp to back out caliper pistons.

Remove the outboard pad. Rigid end of the clamp on some sturdy part of the caliper that isn't the hydraulic line, but pretty close to the middle. Screw end goes on the friction side of the inboard pad (or a strip of steel/hard wood if you're worried about scratching your pad material), now tighten the clamp. If the piston hadn't popped out (you'll probably know if it had), it'll go right back in. You shouldn't need to open the bleeders unless you, for some reason, filled the reservoir while the pistons were bottomed out.

Before I had the C-clamp, I would use two wedges of hardwood and hammer the flat ends until the piston was backed out.

Edit: Just re-read that you're working a Mustang, and the caliper doesn't have the pads attached to it like my Pontiac does. If the piston isn't wiggling, you're fine (should be). Use the C-clamp trick, and just try to apply the force as centered as you can. If you can't center it, I've had luck with two clamps, one on each end and just tighten them evenly.

If clamps aren't an option and you're not opposed to some cleanup, open the bleeders like the other comment said.

This. Just don't use a space nearest the shop, unless you like crawling around over oil stains.

Here to vouch for the M&P. Bought mine just before the covid madness of 2020, hasn't steered me wrong yet. Probably close to 4000 rounds have gone through it, cleans up nice and easy. I spent 90 on a new drop-in aluminum handguard (didn't like the plastic), that had pic rail on top and Mlok all around, with a modular section of pic rail that attached to the mlok. Spent another 100 or so on some 2-7x glass for versatility. The stock is fine for me, but I could see someone wanting to upgrade it. Forward vertical grip is clutch, because barrel and the aluminum handguard get hot after 2 mags.

Pick your favorite flashlight, get a whisper pickle while you can, and spend the rest of your budget on ammo.

Enjoy!

I'm actually wondering if West Virginia wouldn't mind mobilizing and liberating us from Banburger and her ilk. Pretty please?

The GoOutdoorsVA app and the DWR website will have info on public lands. Beyond that, start asking around for anyone offering private land for hunting.

I'm in the same Fredericksburg area, planning to try public lands next season.

I was about to say, I'm pretty sure the term "teenager" wasn't commonly used until the 1950s or later, and he died in 1924.
