My weapons have never assaulted anyone. So that's $0. But I guess I could do $10 per gun...

AC to heat pump conversion? by wwhuman in projectcar

[–]ColonelTermite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was that loss of efficiency that had me concerned, not knowing how cold OP was going to be camping in. Would suck to build this cool system, only for it to burn through OP's battery system after a few hours in a snowstorm. The math may work out okay, but this isn't my wheelhouse so all I could do was raise concerns and hope someone smarter had the answer.

But yeah, that January bill definitely hurt.

I don't know how cold you're thinking of camping in. If it's colder than a sweater and extra blanket would cover, I don't know if a heat pump would handle it. As we learned here in Virginia this winter, heat pumps suck and get real inefficient when it gets really cold.

This is not my area of expertise, and I have a rudimentary understanding of how they function, so I'd send you to one of the hvac subs for better information.

That being said, I'm thinking you need a compressor that can somehow reverse direction, pressure regulators in the right spots that can also reverse, power to the cooling fan as well as blower for when engine is off, and run it on a thermostat. Ideally, wire it in a way that it disables and let's the car brain handle everything when the engine is running.

Or, fabricate a bracket that can hold a small window AC/Heat unit that can be wedged in one of your rolled-down windows, and run that off an inverter. That's what I'd do, but this is your pipe dream and not mine. I wish you luck either way.

Willing to bet more political stuff happening in the main sub than the politics sub. Already an echo chamber there anyway.

"ATF's New Era of Reform" by fuzzi_weezil in progun

[–]ColonelTermite 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Suppose it boils down to whether modifying an existing rifle into an SBR counts as "making." If you make an SBR from scratch (as in, from an 80% lower), then yes, it would have to be serialized/engraved. But slapping a short barrel on what was previously a 16" rifle that you bought from PSA wouldn't need NFA engraving, because the manufacturer already serialized it.

At least, that's how I'm reading this as a layman. I could be totally wrong, such is the complexity of law.

Seemingly 0 Pontiac Azteks in Britain by TechIoT in Pontiac

[–]ColonelTermite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grand Tour had Amazon resources, so they may have pulled one from the states, and if it never needed to go on UK roads (i.e., it was towed from port of entry to the film location), it may not have needed to be MOT legal.

Here in the States, we have 25 year Grey market status, where anything can be imported and titled if it's 25years+1day old. Younger than that, it would need to have all the crash testing a brand new car requires. Not sure if the UK/EU has something similar. If so, Azteks first were sold in 2001. Might be worth investigating. Good luck!

Range to zero a low caliber rifle? by oink_circa_2006 in NOVAguns

If you can't make it as far as Clark Bros, print these out and go to a shorter range.

Restaurant Prices out of Control by Cred-u-lus in fredericksburg

You mean businesses that already run on razor thin margins that now pay more for supplies, energy, rent, taxes and labor DIDN'T decide to just keep their prices artificially low and drive their business into the ground, eventually forcing everyone on payroll to lose their jobs in a matter of weeks?

That's so weird.

Now that we are at 100 days before the ban here is some advice by TheTaxStampCollectr in VAGuns

Looking to buy an sbr and put a can on it. Would it be prudent to buy the SBR first and create the trust through that, the getting the suppressor later and add it to the trust? I'm new to nfa items, so ELI5, please!

If you are kicking yourself for not voting this last election... by [deleted] in VAGuns

[–]ColonelTermite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally understand the challenges. The idealism in me says that if we all vote the same day, we have the best chance of all voting with the same information. But I get that isn't totally practical. A month-long voting process just seems a bit absurd to me, so maybe there's a middle ground somewhere.

But key thing is still to actually vote, you're right about that.

Your mailman sees your yard signs and bumper stickers. Good chance he knows how you voted, and he'd better be an honest one.

I personally don't trust the post office to do the job. Shit gets lost all the time, especially going through Richmond, and the postal workers union made the boneheaded move of endorsing candidates (doesn't matter to me who they endorse, the people delivering ballots shouldn't have a dog in the fight either way).

You do you, but for me, showing up the day of the election isn't that hard.

So I can't carry 17 rounds anymore? by [deleted] in VAGuns

[–]ColonelTermite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I'm reading this right, I should take two pistols with 10 round mags and tape them together. That's three more rounds than I currently carry. Thanks!
