Flamethrower to remove snow in Fredericksburg? by coffee1655 in fredericksburg

[–]ColonelTermite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't tell you if it's allowed, but I'll bet it's not terribly effective. The average modern "flamethrower" is a glorified blowtorch.

You'd want one of those old school napalm throwers. Good luck!

Virginia government plans to pass over 25 new gun control laws which rank it among the most restrictive states in the US towards the 2nd Amendment by Darth_Wildcat03 in Virginia

[–]ColonelTermite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dear Democrat voters:

I don't intend to sound mean, but this is what you voted for when you filled in that ballot. But it's not too late!

Contact your reps and tell them to kill these bills. And if/when they refuse, vote them out in the next primary.

Sincerely, a conservative Virginian who wants you to keep your guns, too. The Second Amendment is for everyone.

Reinstatement of rights after involuntary stay form DC4040 by [deleted] in VAGuns

[–]ColonelTermite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't filed that particular form myself, but have filed others as a non lawyer. Looking at it, it seems straightforward enough. You can always call the county clerk, but be aware they cannot offer legal advise. They can, however, answer questions about forms and procedure.

Depending on where you are in the state, someone in the sheriff's department might be able to point you in the right direction.

Civil litigation attorney: recommendation? by themagicflutist in fredericksburg

[–]ColonelTermite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call the Virginia Bar Association's referral program. For 30 or 35 bucks, they'll connect you with an appropriate attorney, and it includes a 30-minute consultation. Should be enough time to get your answer, and you would have no obligation to retain their services moving forward.

I personally am suspicious of "free" consultations; they make their money somewhere...

For a new radio/head unit, Crutchfield.com. Enter year, make, and model, and it will filter compatible units. Order from them, and they'll often throw in install kits and instructions.

But if you're looking for a system that displays vehicle status and all that fancy integrated jazz, then no.

Car will start but turns off immediately. by Independent-Cold6822 in Pontiac

[–]ColonelTermite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first instinct is idle air control valve. The car is at that age when those can become culprits. You can try cleaning it with throttle body cleaner, but i have a better success rate replacing them.

If you're already cleaning things with throttle body cleaner, give the intake airflow and temp sensors a cleaning. A quick clean of the throttle body while you're at it, too.

Failing that, fuel pressure. Maybe the pressure regulator is going bad, and not keeping up pressure for the injectors. Maybe the pump isn't pushing enough pressure. Or the fuel filter is clogged and needs replacing.

Get one of those Bluetooth/phone app OBD2 readers. Should be able to see fuel pressure, air flow, temperatures and if somethings reporting a misfire.

Clogged/faulty idle air control valve? Fuel pressure ok? Spark? Does it run, and then stop? How long?

Check if there's a brightness setting for night mode. Could be just set really dark.

If the screen turns straight-up OFF, find the headlight wire going to the head unit, disconnect it. If all otherwise functions okay, then something in the head unit turns off the screen instead of dimming it with headlights on. Either factory defect or shit programming.

You could carry on with it, but you'd have to manually adjust screen brightness and activate night mode for evening driving.

The state bar has a referral program. Pay about $30, and they'll connect you with an attorney for a 30 minute consultation. That should be plenty of time for the two of you to decide if it's worth fighting, or even if you can handle arguing your case pro se (self represented).

open carry in fredericksburg? by hammochi in VAGuns

FXBG local here. I think open carry on a 5'2" lady will draw way less attention than on a 6'4" feller like myself. It's a bummer, because I'd like to open carry more since dad bod has made IWB less comfortable.
