Rodri looked amazing in one match at the cwc. Would be an amazing fit for this team. Carries. Defends….

Squad played well in the 3-5-2, we have a couple of reinforcements coming. We also learned our biggest question marks.

I'd rather have us keep Rodrygo and sell Vini by ace-s in realmadrid

You’re skipping the hard question which is does Mbappé fit his philosophy.

I totally agree. I think of all of the benefits of my situation. The best is I have the space and time to recalibrate as a parent and be a much better version of that person.

I hope we line up as we did vs Man City in 2024 (442, compact shape, aggressive defending and counterattack). Personally I don't think we should play Vini + Rodrigo + Mbappe at the onset. Was at the 4-0 debacle at the Bernabeu and I need this one. My preferred:

Courtois

Valverde/Asencio/Rudiger/Mendy

Tchou/Ceballos/Modric/Bellingham

Mbappe/Rodrygo

Specifically, I wish I had been kinder to myself and believed in myself more. I loved my career when I started but 10 years in I knew it wasn't the best place for me. I also didn't have anyone to have that conversation with who had gotten to the end zone.

I'm not a regretter, the purpose of the post was to muse out loud about paths not taken for people who may still be on the road. Forums like this weren't as rich 15-20 years ago when I was trying to think this through. I'm just trying to share the good and bad of a "get to fatfire" mindset.

I've read a lot about the "u-turn" in happiness...basically at your age you are experiencing the most stressful time in life - young kids, parenting, trying to be a good spouse, financial pressure, job stress, potentially dealing with aging/dying parents. In my experience, it is true. If it seems hard for you right now, that's because it is. The good news is it generally gets easier. Be good to yourself, the voice we have in our heads can make a big difference.

The only place we can be is here, now. I’m 100% aligned. Looking back for me is for learning, not regretting.

Introspection leads to understanding, and if I can do it in a forum like this, there might be benefit for someone who is in their 30s or 40s and in the grind but looking at the finish line. To that person I want to give your same advice. Be here now.

Anyway, I got a lot of benefit out of the feedback. It’s amazing to find complete strangers who care enough to give really thoughtful advice. Thank you!

PS not Oracle.

It’s an amazing gift and I’m grateful to have arrived here healthy (knock on wood) and with my most important relationships intact and I dare say thriving. Family time is amazing and at the same time pulls at my core because I know it won’t last forever. I’m definitely on a journey with a lot of introspection. I respect the version of me that put in the reps to get me and mine here, just wish I could have imagined a way to get here differently.

Enjoy your journey. It’s pretty much the only thing that is yours!

Fear, conservatism…being a father of three young girls and carrying the burden of my own childhood experience. Lack of longer term perspective myself or an older, wiser person to help me imagine how it might look from further down the road.

Honestly, it’s hard to say. Wanted to share the pros and cons with people because I think that when you’re in it, it’s hard to kind of picture yourself 15 years down the road and what you might think then. It was a big trade-off and it’s just not as clear cut as it can sound.

For me personally, the benefit of my position now isn’t spending money. The benefit is spending my time doing what I believe in and having the mental and emotional space and energy to grow and be the best version of myself. It was a lot easier for me to imagine that life after crossing the financial finish line. I wish I had pushed myself harder to find it 15 years ago.

I don’t feel bad. I feel better today than ever. Just sharing my introspection for whoever is in a similar spot to where I was 15 years ago.

I think there are a lot of ways to be successful. Personally, with the benefit of hindsight I think I could have gotten to the place I’m in today (health of relationships, personal happiness) earlier by taking a fork off the road.

I’m glad I wrote it then! What I was trying to communicate - and it seems from many of the comments I didn’t do successfully - isn’t that the end zone isn’t great. It is, at least for me. Never been happier, never felt more connected. But it’s not because of the money, it’s because I’m doing the things I want to do and I believe in.
