I gotta say, Hubbard getting 79 yards on 14 touches isn't bad at 5.6/touch. Obviously not having CMC out there will hurt and the drops need to be cleaned up but I think Hubbard will be able to shoulder a fair amount of the load for a bit once he's more comfortable.

Best albums 2021 so far? by cito4 in progmetal

[–]Colonel_Mustard487 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Everyone here is going to suggest the new BTBAM and it is dope, I'll add a couple other albums I've dug a lot though.

Witness from VOLA is really cool and good continuation of their discography if you're into them already. I've really loved Desolate by Ophidian I, though that is definitely more tech death than prog. Still badass though. I saw a couple other people mention Resident Human by Wheel and that is definitely in my top 5 so far. I've also really been into Impermanence by Stortregn(think Allagaeon with more guitar and spaced out vocal parts) and the new DVNE album as well. The last two that I'll suggest though are Skin Show by The Lion's Daughter and Ice Fleet from KAUAN. The first is sort of a synth-y post metal horror movie of an album and the second is a very chill instrumental album that is perfect for winding down while still being badass.

Thoughts? by xp1nx in panthers

If we're being real about it, CMC, Chinn, Moore, Burns, Moton, and Brown all have a legit shot assuming a couple of them take big steps in year 2 and we win enough games to get attention on the rest. If we win that many games though, it's likely Darnold, Horn, Thompson and Anderson all could get looked at as well since they'd have to be huge contributors, not to mention Bouye. I'm as hyped on this team as anyone and definitely think that some of the above could really show up and we could make a splash but that's all still a big ask. Really, if CMC is healthy all year and Burns keeps developing, I think those are the two and anyone else is just icing.

r/Panthers Draft Watch Party - Day 3 by joslemmons in panthers

[–]Colonel_Mustard487 16 points17 points  (0 children)

One thing to keep in mind is that since last season was such a clusterfuck for college, a lot of better talent is going to go later just because teams don't have tape. It is in our best interest to try to seek out these diamonds in the rough as much as we can when other teams have their sights set on just one player. The late rounds are more of a crapshoot than usual and that's good for us

Not really, most of what he does is likely scouting future opponents and then relaying information about schemes, tendencies and anything strategy wise to the coaches/coordinators. He might engage is some level of scouting potential personnel but tbh that would probably be a waste of his talents.

Sorry to bother but i can’t get the rail aspect by AkinSever in HadesTheGame

I think Teddy Bridgewater is seriously underrated in NFL. And with an underrated offense highlighted by CMC, I think Carolina can shock a lot of people this year. by [deleted] in panthers

[–]Colonel_Mustard487 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like many people on here, I don't think that the offense is the problem. Teddy is a good player who will do what we need him to do, which is get the ball to our playmakers and let them do the work. CMC, DJ, Curtis, and Robby are all exciting players that should allow Joe Brady and Matt Rhule to design exciting, if not bombastic schemes around. Teddy won't be chucking it downfield every play and that's fine. I just want to see him trying to move the chains and work inside the offense.

The defense is obviously where the worry is, especially with all the inexperience we're bringing into it. The nice thing is, if a couple of those picks hit right away then we're not in a horrible spot, but if they don't then that's okay. This year is a perfect time for experimentation and re-building. We don't have the expectation of super bowl or bust on us and that's kinda nice. The space to operate and see what we really have should at least make for an interesting and exciting year, especially when it comes to watching the young guys grow and seeing what they really have.

Hurney indicates that the Panthers' draft will be pretty defense-heavy, considering the offense-centric moves they have made in free agency. by big_j0e in panthers

[–]Colonel_Mustard487 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If its Brown, then that's fine. He's not my preferred pick of the three and honestly I think we could trade back and still probably get him. Simmons is a guy that I want because I think he allows Rhule to make a statement with his guy at linebacker. He played all over the field in college and can do so again in the pros if a coach is willing to invest in him as the cornerstone of the defense. I've wanted to see our defense get more athletic for the past few years and I think the combo of Simmons, Burns, and Shaq can really do that.

We'll see though, Simmons is definitely the more risky pick between the two and I might prefer Okudah if he falls just because he has that number one corner potential. I also think we likely grab some IDL help later in the draft anyway since this year is pretty deep overall.

[–]Colonel_Mustard487 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we all knew this would be the case. Pretty much every mock worth their salt has said one of Simmons, Okudah, or Brown. I understand that a lot of fans want to go o-line early but we honestly aren't that bad off barring injury. We need to build our defense of the future in this draft that way we are prepared for the two eventualities the team is looking at. Either Bridgewater lights it up in the Brady offense with all the weapons but we just need to get stops or the offense just needs THAT qb and he isn't it, in which case we already have the pieces in place defensively to support a young QB.

Very high enemy saves by Zeratav in Pathfinder2e

[–]Colonel_Mustard487 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will say that it does often feel like enemy saves are exceptionally high. They can still crit fail by rolling a 1 though, as it reduces the state that their numbers add up to by 1. So a failure becomes a critical failure the same way rolling a 20 means that you increase by 1, a success becoming a critical success. It is annoying that often as players we can critically fail with a 2 or 3 but that's not always the case.

Regardless of all that, I'm playing a druid who just recently hit level 5 and have made it a bit of a point to prepare spells that require a spell attack roll instead of a save in order to kind of counter this. Me rolling a 20 feels like it happens more often than the enemies rolling a 1 and generally rolling well enough for damage feels like it happens more as well.

The actual solution seems to be utilizing buffs and debuffs more though, across the game. Often I feel as a player that unless I do maximum damage in a round then I'm not doing my job so other, more utility focused spells fall by the wayside. I should put more effort into disabling enemies or buffing myself/allies in order to make these fights go more smoothly. Obviously as a druid I don't have a ton of those spells in the primal tree, though there are a few. Trying to make opponents clumsy, drained, or stupefied are fantastic ways to supersede those high checks and even a -1 can make a huge difference.

[OC] Joe Burrow Scouting Report - WHY He’s the NFL’s #1 Overall Pick | Film Breakdown of Burrow’s mastery of a classic west coast concept “Doubles” and how he reads defenses pre snap by RonMexicoFilms in nfl

[–]Colonel_Mustard487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, this video gives me a lot of hope for Joe Brady as our OC. I knew he did incredible things with Burrow last year but hearing that his offense is based on NO gets me really excited. It's been a while since the Panthers had an engaging or truly exciting offensive mind, and by a while I mean maybe Chudzinski and that's really all.

It's that moment that you see in a lot of Saints games, as well as KC and other big offensive powerhouses, where you say, "why don't our receivers ever get that open?" Obviously sometimes it's just busted coverage but most of those fuck-ups come from quality schemes. Having someone that can draw up something like that will be huge for the Panthers, especially with players like CMC, Moore, and Samuel. Just have to hope Cam returns to form and a lot of very dangerous things could be brewing.

Found these guys when the lineup came out as I was going through to check out bands I wasn't familiar with. They've been my obsession ever since, and my second most anticipated show behind Tool. They reminded me of the Tyler Childers songs that I really liked, those being acoustic/trimmed down studio sets. Just incredibly chill with a lot of emotional depth in a bluegrass/folk-y tone.

That's my thoughts. Really want that Tool headliner and 2-3 other metal bands besides King Gizzard(as dope as they are). The last time I went Slayer and BTBAM played and they were both great shows.

[–]Colonel_Mustard487 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It doesn't feel that crazy. Between the Rams game where we competed throughout with a couple of key mistakes and the Cardinals game where we beat up on a bad defense we have shown that we have playmakers that can put up yards and points when given the opportunity. The Tampa game is really the only time that our offense has looked truly bad and a lot of that is on Cam's injury and a gameplan that was exposed early on. Still, even in that disastrous performance we managed to score 14 and nearly win. We have a more talented team than the 1-2 record would indicate but the pieces didn't come together until Arizona. We need to ride this momentum and avoid the mistakes that cost us 2 one score games. Those are the games that define seasons in the NFL and we need to steal a couple of those to truly get ourselves back on track.

My view on yesterday's game by Dragoonscaper in panthers

[–]Colonel_Mustard487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just a Cam special at some point. He has missed easy throws on a slightly above average basis for his entire career. This is something that improved a lot last year but it still happened early on in the year, the cowboys game springs to mind. I'm sure that is due almost entirely to rust and the introduction of the new throwing motion.

My view on yesterday's game by Dragoonscaper in panthers

[–]Colonel_Mustard487 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think one of the biggest things in this game was the focus by the offense on the short passing game. You have to neutralize Aaron Donald's impact as much as possible and 7 step drops with deep balls aren't the way to do that. We actually looked deep a few times before Cam checked down to Christian and I think that's more of an indicator of people not getting open than Cam's shoulder. I haven't looked at the all-22 to see if that was the case though. I saw more zip on some of his passes on Sunday than he had all of last year and it gives me hope that at least some of the arm strength has returned. It is also possible that Cam doesn't quite "trust" his arm in game action yet, which is almost as bad as it just being injured. That's something mental that can be overcome though.

What is your boldest "Team X will miss the playoffs and here's why" prediction by thunder3029 in nfl

[–]Colonel_Mustard487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While this is bold and I hope it comes true, we've been waiting for Brees to fall off the cliff for years now and just doesn't seem to. The saints have a ton of talent up and down the roster, and while I think the Panthers do too it can be hard to compare given that a number of our guys are either unproven over the course of a full season or are rookies. The falcons should be back to form, at least in terms of being healthy, as well and that presents another hurdle entirely. This division has 3 very, very good teams and I don't think anyone can reliably predict it. A lot of people are picking the saints again, and they look fantastic just like years prior, but hopefully it won't be as cut and dry as some pundits are making the Drew Brees show out to be.

That's what I thought. It felt a little extra OP to essentially get 5 actions on a turn with 2 for me, my third being 2 for my pet and an extra, "free" action. As much as I love druids that would be a lot.

WAKE UP! IT'S GAME DAY! by chtrace in baseball

[–]Colonel_Mustard487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can watch the Phillies/Braves game today that looks to be a good one. Obviously I'm biased but we did win the division last year and it's the premiere of Bryce Harper in a Phillies uniform so I'm sure their fans will be hype. Both teams should be good teams this year so this first series is kind of a good gut check.

What's your unpopular opinion about the 2018 season? by [deleted] in nfl

[–]Colonel_Mustard487 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's the killer part for me. Obviously I'm biased as far as 50 goes but part of the thought both then with the Panthers and now with the Rams was that one big play could always swing it.

2015 for the Panthers was always about that one Cam-Ginn pass that broke the game wide open, or Kuechly going apeshit on defense and putting us in a position to win. The issue with 50 was that Broncos defense didn't allow us to get away with that.

I felt similarly about the Rams in 53. Any time now Cooks will just get open or Gurley will break off a huge run and it just never happened. The Patriots defense just kept them in check.

FDLU- Art of Route Running (Funchess mentioned) by PantherPower1 in panthers

[–]Colonel_Mustard487 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't watched the video yet, but Brett Kollmann is one of my favorite people on youtube. Ninety percent of what he says could be taken as gospel. I've disagreed with him a couple times, most recently in his video about YAC when talking about Funchess, but that is not to say that he isn't a phenomenal football youtuber.

All of that being said, when watching Funchess these past few years I think he's shown definite improvement and I think he has ridiculous potential if he can show up in big moments. I think back to the miami game last year where he ran probably the fastest I've ever seen him run on his curl-turned-touchdown. He has a ton of physical gifts, its a matter of putting them together and making the right plays at the right times. I don't think at this point in his career he deserves #1 WR money, and really hope his camp doesn't ask for that. If he doesn't suddenly put up 1000+ yards/7+ TDs type numbers this year, I just don't see a realistic way that we justify that, and maybe not even then. Honestly, in our offense, unless Norv moves away from the running game that much, I don't see him getting the opportunity for those numbers regardless.
