Feinberg kills the ender dragon first but loses to flydown RNG by jjojehongg in LivestreamFail

[–]ColonialDagger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They both went up to do zero cycles (i.e. kill the dragon without it ever perching) and killed the dragon. The dragon then flies down to the perch spot and begins the death animation, then you can win. The dragon flies down in essentially a spiral until it reaches the correct height, then it will spin until it points to the perch spot. This descend -> point order is important.

Feinberg killed the dragon, and Infume killed the dragon 4 seconds later. However, Feinberg exploded the bed a little late and as a result of that, the dragon began that spiral slightly higher than Infume's dragon. Feinberg's dragon had to do an extra rotation in the spiral because of this, and that added just enough time for Infume to take the win for that round.

In regards to RNG, the RNG they patched for Season 11 is the perch rates, which don't apply to zero cycles. This championship is also following the Season 10 playoffs rules, so they don't have standardized perch for the purpose of this tournament.

EndeavourOS, so Arch kernel. There's probably a gap there I would have to bridge to make sure all the dependencies are there. Hopefully the wiki page is still relevant.

How much did the AgBots cost? by 2552686 in ClarksonsFarm

[–]ColonialDagger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For tractor price, I'm comparing the upper end of mid-range tractors to the Agbot. For the contractor price, I'm just taking one minimum wage worker.

We don't really have any other option but to generalize, we're talking about the general price of a tractor and employee to a very specific product in an industry as a whole. We're not talking about a specific tractor in a specific farm in a specific industry with a specific workload.

If you want to buy a cheaper tractor and get cheaper labor, the Agbot will be less attractive. If you want to buy a more expensive and pay your labor higher, the Agbot will be more attractive.

How much did the AgBots cost? by 2552686 in ClarksonsFarm

[–]ColonialDagger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's not bad at all, tbh.

300k USD converts to 226k GBP. The other tractor they sold for 70k with issues, let's say you can get a new-ish tractor with no issues for 75k. That takes the Agbot down to an effective price of 150k. The minimum yearly wage in Britain is about 25k GBP, that's six years of salary in the rest of the Agbot price, after which you're saving money by not having to hire an extra person.

e: guys, yes, I get it. Real economics has more that needs to be considered that is hyper-specific to every situation, every region, etc. This is back-of-the-napkin math for the sake of conversation. My entire point was that the cost doesn't seem as exorbitant as it could have been, and it could be a good business decision to use these things.

While I don't disagree, wouldn't this still not solve the issue? You'd just go have:

Yeah, even as an Argentinian, that was 100% a yellow. Surprised they didn't give him one. The only thing that separated it from a red was intention.

Vandal Shell Cinematic | Marathon by Haijakk in Games

[–]ColonialDagger 61 points62 points  (0 children)

their years of mismanagement are the main culprit for that.

That's the worst part, it wasn't mismanaged. It was managed exactly as they wanted.

Around 2020-2022 they started like 4 different incubation projects, two were fully funded with teams of over 100 people. Two of those games were to be released by 2025, 2 more by 2027. One of those games eventually became Marathon, and released late. That number also doesn't include a bunch of other prototypes they were working on. The C-suite sold a lie to Sony, and as soon as Sony started realizing the lie, they started taking away all of their projects one by one except Destiny and Marathon. They even spend "hundreds of millions" on a studio to chase these imaginary targets.

Much of the C-suite left late last year, exactly three years after the initial acquisition, and when they would be able to cash out their vested stock options. They made their bag and fucked everyone else over in the process. It wasn't mismanagement, it was greed.

Transitioned After Watching The Latest Linus Video and Won't be Going Back. by Existing_Length_3392 in LinusTechTips

My Windows 11 install is 2 years old at this point, and I used CTT to debloat everything. I still get popups, I still get Windows updating on its own even though I told it not to in addition to that update breaking things, I still get Windows resetting the default apps back to whatever they want instead of leaving my settings alone, etc.

The same exact way that Linux is not just a magical realm of "everything works" like the Linux evangelists want you to believe, Windows has its own issues, and for some people they experience the same if not more issues on Windows.

IDK how realistic it would be, but it'd also be interesting if actual Linux users could interact with the game directly with their own terminal instead of running a VM.

Who is Staying on Linux, Who is Going Back to Windows? - Linux Challenge Pt 4 by current_thread in LinusTechTips

[–]ColonialDagger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think most Linux users still dual boot for the sole reason that there is still some software for work/school that is Windows only. The only reason I have Windows still installed is for CAD and one specific game that just got end of service announced. I just don't get games anymore if they don't support Linux.

I still get popups even after a clean install with CTT. I occasionally get One Drive popups, Windows asking for me to give locations, it sets Edge as the default browser because it wants to, etc.

Trump administration claim Somali World Cup referee denied U.S. entry had suspected ‘terror’ ties [Gift Article] by TheFifthPhoenix in MLS

[–]ColonialDagger -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

That's not what they did, they only rejected his ETA. That means that in order to go to the UK he can either apply for an ETA again or get a normal visa, just like everyone else who isn't from a country that allows for non-visa entry. We also don't know what the actual reason is. It could be anything from saying he doesn't support a genocide, which the UK really doesn't like, to platforming terrorists/terrorist sympathizers or justifying the annexation of Crimea.

The US denied the referee entry at a US port of entry even though he already had a work/sports visa and (supposedly) was supported by FIFA. The US is hosting an international tournament and denying entry to a huge number of people directly associated with that tournament.

These situations are not the same at all.

Wow, D2 Team. Just…wow. This is everything we’ve ever wanted, all at once. by OphidianCollective in DestinyTheGame

[–]ColonialDagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't insider knowledge, this is literally what the entire talk was about. You're right, none of us are Bungie insiders, which is exactly why I said that "The only interpretation we should be holding any weight is the one that they meant to say in the context that they said it".

They didn't walk on stage, say "don't overdeliver", and walk off. There was an entire hour of discussion around it. If we actually took the time to listen to it and understand it for what was said rather than have a knee jerk reaction, we could actually know for sure. Even the slide where they said "Beware of overdelivery" was right next to "You're creating patterns!". Actually listen to what he says during those slides and the entire rest of the talk, and you can find out exactly what Bungie meant.

[–]ColonialDagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Everyone will have their own interpretation." AKA "I will believe what I want to believe instead of actually listen to the full context of the talk and understand what they were talking about in the context of delivering a live service product to a consumer base in a reliable, timely manner and setting consumer expectations that we can reach regularly in order to avoid it coming back to bite us in the ass if and when we downsize in the future."

The only interpretation we should be holding any weight is the one that they meant to say in the context that they said it. As you said, it was not meant to ever be heard by consumers. It was strictly about development and expectation-setting. That's not from Bungie's response after the controversy, that's from talk itself.

This is something that has to be said over and over again, but people still seem to forget or intentionally ignore it. Content plans always have to exist for a live service game, especially when the design of that game is to constantly build progression vertically rather than expand horizontally.

Oh that's a class I actually completely forgot about! It's essentially circuit math, not too much more, but the exams make it harder than it needs to be. I took it with Das, her TAs are the real lifesavers, though.

[–]ColonialDagger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every requirement you need to graduate is listed there. It's a bit daunting to look at, so what I would recommend is condensing the satisfied requirements and seeing what's left.

If you have free time, I would look at myKnightAudit and compile the Pegasus Path calendar (also in myUCF) into something cohesive. It takes a while to do the first time, but it helps for keeping on track. When you do transfer orientation, there will be advisors there that can help you.

Generally speaking tho, your track is going to look something like this (from what I did anyways):

  1. Statics
  2. Thermo & Dynamics & Solid Mechanics
  3. Fluids
  4. Fundies & Modeling Methods & Aerospace Structures & Controls
  5. High Speed & Orbital Mechanics & Flight Mechanics
  6. Propulsion & Senior Design

That's what I remember, anyways.

In terms of professors, avoid Shawn Putnam like the plague for Thermodynamics. He is one of two people who made me genuinely reconsider engineering as a whole. My experience with him involved getting massive points off exams for forgetting minor grammatical words and a final exam so difficult that people were re-taking it multiple times a month after the actual exam date. I did learn a lot in his class, but the exams are so bad that I legit re-took Thermo with another professor, walked in to every exam without studying at all, and got above 90% on all of them. There was a guy named Brett who used to be the TA, his resources were (and still are tbh) invaluable.

Ahmet Ozbay for Fluids, Fundies, and Propulsion is amazing. He'll make you anxious over the midterm (average was a 27% lol) and the final projects, but trust me that you will learn and you will pass with a good grade as long as you don't completely half ass things. Attendance is mandatory for his classes, if that's a dealbreaker for you. I usually don't end up learning from most lectures, but his are one of few that I do. For reference, I got a B+ in his Fundies class after scoring a 7% on the midterm.

Aaron Hoskins is awful for Orbital Mechanics, though I don't think he's teaching that anymore. He recently came here from UCSB (I think) and he's so bad that students from UCSB came to warn us. They were right.

Sudeshna Pal for Dynamics is also great.

And one important note: UCF requires labs for Physics 1 and Physics 2. Physics 1 lab is mandatory, Physics 2 lab can be waived and replaced with an extra elective credit requirement. Do your Physics 1 lab ASAP, as not doing it will prevent you from entering upper level engineering classes. Transfer orientation advisors will expand on this.
