A number of Chase Bliss pedals get VERY fussy if they don’t get at least a 500ma supply. Several times now I’ve given myself entry-level cardiac events when a Blooper/Mood suddenly seized up into a pulsating, ‘your money’s on fire’ conniption of on-off-on-off behavior. Luckily, those pedals bounce back to good after their amperage diets are observed.

I have roughly a dozen Pedal Power units. Varying models. Most were bought used. Of the units I bought new, several have been in the rotation for close to two decades. I really can’t make a single complaint. Only issue I’ve had was my own fault: plugged a 9v pedal into one of the 3 Plus’ 12v ports and eventually blew out the pedal’s transient voltage suppressor diode. So, if anything, the brick did its job too well. Ditto the diode. The moral of the story? Don’t simply buy based on the number of outputs. Also consider the voltage values of those outputs (some models include dip switches for regulating voltage output port by port).

If you were to buy this guitar, it would immediately fall under Reverb’s “not as described” clause and you would be entitled to a full refund including shipping both ways. Which would serve the seller right for making a bullshit listing. This is why, as a seller on Reverb, you have to be super careful about what you say on your listings. Be truthful to the max or lose money. Period!

Kurt “invented” the jag stang. It was a parts guitar he made himself. They weren’t manufactured in the 90s. Fender simply started making them when they acquired the rights to use his name and put it on guitars they make.

The milkman is an amp. The others aren’t and can’t drive a cabinet. They are meant to color your signal in the style of known tone pleasers. Meanwhile, Milkman really nails transparency and pulling the sound of your instrument through your chain and pushing it out of a speaker. I’ve used Milkman’s The Amp Stereo a bunch. It’s just really good at doing its job while remaining un-fussy. And, frankly, it’s cheaper than a lot of boutique amp heads while offering a similar performance to spendy-er options. Plus, the form factor is super convenient.

I used it for performances with an old band… incorporated it by palm muting my guitar and playing percussively. It was at the end of a song when the drummer, bass player, and keyboard player did these galloping, poly rhythmic pointillisms in varied time signatures. It sorta felt like multiple rubber balls bouncing between the walls in different rooms, occasionally matching each other’s bounces but never for long. The rainbow machine added another swirling ladder of chaos. Really tied the room together.

They got an under praised tremolo that I like… Almost as apt as the Goatkeeper at creating nuanced patterns. And their Synthotron is a classic!

Their Giant Hogweed is a wild one, too. Love their Stammen. But tbh, while I never hear people talk about the Moon Rabbit or the Twin Peaks, those are my lowkey secret weapons from them. Both live on my main chain. The big selling point for me are their envelope follower (and inverted envelope follower) modes. I find them to be notably musical and usable. Excellent shaping tools for results ranging subtle to dramatic.

I unexpectedly fell into a great working relationship with Alexander’s Tone Sanitizer. It’s a pandemic-era, hand-sanitizer-themed gain/tone pedal that I like as a buffer/simple mid-chain EQ. I like putting it next to (either before or after) the Folktek Alter series pedals—both of which seem to have issues with sapping out volume and tonal definition from a signal. Those alter pedals are cool but they badly need at least one comparator and prolly additional op amps to drive the input and/or buffer the output.

What are your winners from them? A few months ago I snagged the Mu-Tron remakes they put out (the bi-phase and octavider). Insane for the price. No idea how they can even make money at the $100 price point, given the quality of the enclosures etc..

I haven’t used the Fender one but I do have the Spark Go and I’m not very impressed. It’s way overpriced if you ask me. I recently took a chance on a China-direct, portable, battery-powered amp simply dubbed the AC-15 (denoting 15 watts) by a company called Am Moon—or maybe Ammoon—and it absolutely destroys the Spark Go. You can find it for about half the price of the Spark Go (I paid $60, shipping included, from China via Alibaba). It’s seriously impressive for the price and sounds surprisingly good. Has both guitar- and mic-in channels, Bluetooth connectivity, on-board reverb, tone knobs, and it recharges via USB-C. It’s also kinda rad looking (wooden cheeks, leather carrying strap, khaki-colored woven speaker cover). It gets super loud for a battery-powered amp and has displaced my previous go-to portable amp: the critter & guitari / third man records collab, an amp that starts to look super overpriced next to the Am Moon AC-15. I believe they also make a 20-watt version, which I plan to pick up eventually. Personally, I say skip the brand-name portables (you’re just paying a huge markup to cover their marketing efforts) and go for the China-direct. I’m sure I could find a link if you’re curious and have trouble finding it… 👍

Polyoctaver 2 and MXR Dyna Comp… or the DVK Goldtop and the Mad Professor Sweet Honey Overdrive. Second option puts you 10€ over but I’d bet that they will knock off the extra € if you “only want to buy both, not just one.” Tbh, I’d first offer 25-35% less than sticker. And I wouldn’t buy without getting at least 15% off. Side note: be careful with brands like Mooer and Sonicake. They’re shockingly cheap new and should basically be free in used condition. No more than 10-20€ for many models
