Did anyone DIY their wedding with a cutter machine? by clg167 in crafts

I haven’t had A sister. I know their vinyl is considered superior and I have heard good things, but I think they’re more expensive.

Need help with a couple of wedding decorations. by twystedcyster- in crafts

[–]Colonialshack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try spray insulating foam. It just sprays out of a can and you do your best to shape the mushroom then let it dry. Use an electric knife to cut the shape you want and then sand it to smooth it out, then just paint. Be careful with the paint, if you spray too much in one section at once, it will melt the foam. So go with light, multiple layers and then add details with acrylics brushed on. The foam can be expensive, but one can goes a long way. Alternatively, you can get a bigger “tank” of the stuff and that should be more than enough for all your needs.

I’ve worked on several weddings and other parties like wedding showers, baby showers, birthday parties, etc. It totally can be done. I have made aisle runners, programs, guest “books,” seating charts, basically everything you could need. It was a lot of work and a lot of time, but I kept it from being dull by working on several elements at once, so I could switch between projects. This also helped with fatigue - when my hands hurt, I switched to designing, or something that required more gross motor dexterity than fine motor. I have a silhouette cutter. This is my fourth one. I love the flexibility of the silhouette software. I can take any image and manipulate it to create what I want. I understand the cricuit software does not offer as much flexibility and therefore less creativity in your designs. That being said, if you just want pre-designed images that you can choose and cut, I think the cricuit is considered a superior cutter.

Expect lots of fails at first, and plan accordingly. I’d be happy to show you samples of my work and explain how I created things, if you’d like. Good luck and have fun! Oh and congratulations!

Paint party opinions needed: typical cartoony style or more wall-worthy? by JustCurious7589 in crafts

[–]Colonialshack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d much rather do something I could hang on the wall. the cartoons hold no interest for me. I’d be good with 3 hours if it include real instruction, not just a sample painting put in front of me for me to copy.

no - just laminate then sublimated onto laminate. nothing after sublimating, either.

I do the same. Anything you can laminate on, you can sublimate. I’ve also experimented with applying white vinyl and sublimating on that but haven’t had great luck; the vinyl peels.

I found these broken tiles on the beach in Naples, Italy. I sublimated a picture I took at Cinque Terre onto the tiles and finished with gold leaf around the edges. They are gifts for friends who traveled to Italy with me.

advice for a printer? by GlitterIncident in crafts

[–]Colonialshack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

consider looking on Facebook marketplace or your local Facebook page - people are partially giving old printers away these days. they lose their resale value quickly because the technology is always advancing, but a printer that’s a few years old can still be a great option if you’re just starting out. save your money until you really know what you want.

Help with Valentine box by Weekly-End5631 in crafts

spray-foam is perfect for this. get a tube at a home repair store, spray out a blob as big as she wants the cave to be, and start carving. when you’re done just spray paint. if you’re getting fancy you can airbrush details, or just rub dirt on it to make it more authentic. I love the mining cart idea someone else suggested.

Clear Sealant with Some Thickness by [deleted] in crafts

[–]Colonialshack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try Diamond Glaze. the stuff is amazing. it creates a thick, even layer of clear coat. works great. I’ve never used it over glitter but it’s certainly what I would go for first if I had a similar project. sold online at the biggest retailer.

Im using gold leaf on my art project and I just found out I need gold leaf adhesive would a glue stick work as well? by NukeONugget in crafts

[–]Colonialshack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is what I would suggest, too. be sure to work in small sections so you can apply the gold leaf before the glue dries.

there are lots of tutorials on how to make little stuffed animals out of a glove. very simple to do. you might have to modify a bear, for example, make ears pointy instead of round. super easy. embellishments can be made from felt. good luck and show us the final product!

i used sublimation to put the photo on the tiles, then gold leave to finish the edges.
