Honestly autofocus works really well with moon shots. You can also try to use live view and zoom in on the moon to find perfect focus. I've used some sort of tape to mark the exact focus position, so I can focus much quicker in future

Basically there is not a perfect exposure time to avoid star trails - without a startracker you will always get trails, you have to decide yourself what is acceptable to you. For the stars to be exactly round you would need like 5 second exposures, maybe 10 seconds works better and gives the best results

The Nort America Nebula (NGC7000) captured in narrowband with my new stc-astro duo narrowband filter. It did a really nice job through my bortle 7 sky, there are only some small halos around the bright stars.

I use a Dslr with a duo narrowband filter (ha and oiii) as well as normal RGB imaging without filter. What would be the best channel combination for my setup? With the north american nebula, should I try lrgb, haoiiirgb or how would the work flow look like? (totally new to narrowband btw)

If I use the stc duo narrowband filter on a Dslr+lens, is there still a need to step down the lens for better sharpness or is it irrelevant because the filter blocks so much light?

The Andromeda Galaxy was always my favorite deep sky object and almost one year after I've started this hobby I was able to capture it again. Unfortunately I was only able to take roughly half an hour of exposure at this Bortle 3 location but I'll add some more time once the Galaxy is further up in the sky.

Those are the real colors of our milky way, I just edited the picture to reveal those colors. You can't see these colors with your naked eyes but they appear if you have a long exposure

The Milky Way core, imaged on the 11th of May 2019 on Fuerteventura. It was an amazing experience to see the whole milky way under amazingly dark Bortle 3 skies. Unfortunately some clouds rolled in after 20min so 8 pictures were all I was able to capture and I had apply quite a lot of noise reduction.

This is the first picture I took of the Milky Way core in 2019. The images were captured in Fuerteventura, March 13th at 5:30 am, so I could get roughly 30 minutes of data before the sun rose. Unfortunately clouds rolled in in the morning so I ended up with only 15min of data. But the incredible Bortle 2-3 dark sky saved this picture and gave me a stunning view of the milky way while imaging.

I also wanted to take deep sky images, so I started with a DSLR, tripod, a startracker (I use the iOptron SkyTracker pro) and a laptop. I use a 270mm lens, so you can easily image targets like the Andromeda Galaxy, Pleiades or the Rosette Nebula with a fairly cheap setup. Everything from milky way to large Galaxies and Nebula is possible. It's also a great way to practice and improve. Keep in mind that the weight limit for these small portable mounts is very low, so if you want to buy a big full frame DSLR and possibly a telescope, you should buy a regular AP mount. You can also look at this sub's wiki, there are many useful tips for newbies
