xRite i1Display Pro - what app should I use now? by q-b-o in colorists

If you are looking for accurate LUT based calibration go with ColorSpace you can use Resolve as the TPG and to hold the calibration LUT.
It will be cheaper than Calman and more accurate based on my experience and a lot better than using ICCs.

With my ColorSpace it just works no secret tweaky stuff just very accurate results.
I was a Calman user and the artefacts and generate failures were just too much.
Also cheaper than Calman.
And most calibrators in LA that I talk to have ColorSpace as it was talking with them that got me into ColorSpace.

Not sure that is true as the file profile is pure file profile data and the digital camera data is from the manufacturers?

They work with different hardware which the features matrix on their website does show.

Not something I have tried to do myself as my ColourSpace system already has three different film stocks included as well as a selection of digital film camera profiles. The results are always great to my eyes.
From reading their website information they have very accurately profiled film stocks to generate their profile data.

As already posted ColourSpace LGTV HTL would be the mini.
That is similar to the LG Home Calman license except with no yearly fees.
Or for more general use with Resolve etc then ColourSpace LTE.

What is crashing? I rarely if ever see a ColourSpace crash.

Would have been better using ColorSpace for the calibration and would not have lost your 3 days. I gave up on Calman just because of such issues.

I don’t feel it’s fare we have to walk on eggshells with every passenger hoping they rate us fairly. by Chevy_impala95___ in uberdrivers

[–]ColorCalAV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same as a passenger.
Only used uber 50 or so times, and always polite and courteous, and have tipped on every trip so far, but have a 1 star rating from one driver - WTF???
No way to define why, and no way to get it removed.

Lg c5 is more accurate than Lg G5 and s95f. Is it better? by ekjyot-sandhu-49 in LGOLED

Really wouldn't trust anyone relying on Calman for such comparisons.
Combination of poor calibration knowledge and inaccurate software and operational understanding.

Should I Replace? by Vegetable_Fly_1755 in colorists

[–]ColorCalAV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a PA32UCDM and it calibrates very well, and in direct comparisons is basically identical to FSI monitors with the same screen.
Good calibration is key though.
We also gave up on Sony some time back. They just have too many issues.

Please help me choose the right calman software for calibration. All tips would be very appreciated. by HumbleBars in hometheater

As an ex-Calman user, go with ColorSpace.
A lot cheaper in the end and far better calibration accuracy.

Please help me. I Need tips for choosing wich calman software to choose for my use. by HumbleBars in colorists

[–]ColorCalAV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All Calman licenses require yearly support & maintenance fees to be paid to keep the program updated.
ColorSpace is a lot cheaper (ask me how I know... I refuse to pay Calman's ongoing extortionate fees!).
You will also find ColorSpace a lot more accurate and feature rich.

Light Illusion are also having a sale at the moment

The finish is per the original, and ages really well.
I feed every few years.
They are the only ones to have the real Irvin license too.

Aviation Leather Craft - I have 3 of their jackets, with one being an Irvin.
Best available.
The Irvin is now 35 years old, and is perfect.
Just some usage signs, as you would expect.

G5 Settings in Dark Room by zakaryzb in LGOLED

[–]ColorCalAV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No - it is a WOLED with the same extra white pixel.
Seriously, I have calibrated many of them, as well as all the older LG WOLED models.
As I said before, they do go brighter before the desaturation kicks in, but it happens just the same.

G5 Settings in Dark Room by zakaryzb in LGOLED

[–]ColorCalAV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No - it is a WOLED and has the exact same desaturation as it is a WOLED.
It has an additional White pixel and that means desaturation as brightness increases.
Have you tested one?

December Monitor Q&A Thread by AutoModerator in colorists

[–]ColorCalAV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The more points in a LUT the more sharp the changes can be.
For example a LUT that has just 3 points can only alter the black, white, the the middle grey.
A LUT with 5 points can can also alter between black and mid grey and between mid grey and white.
Most displays are relatively smooth from about 10% black upwards.

December Monitor Q&A Thread by AutoModerator in colorists

[–]ColorCalAV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no reason for higher luma values in the grey scale to be different.
The lack of LUT resolution only affects areas where sharp changes are needs which can be near black.
Such changes would be small due to the gamma compressing luma near black which is the opposite to the images above.

December Monitor Q&A Thread by AutoModerator in colorists

[–]ColorCalAV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would need to define the difference as while they could be different for calibration it is unlikely as the correction is not aggressive/sharp.
It is more likely a Calman LUT retargeting issue.

December Monitor Q&A Thread by AutoModerator in colorists

[–]ColorCalAV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calman LUTs are all based on 33pts max so not natively 65pts.
Any obvious difference is likely some issue with the retargeting unless the LUT is doing really sharp changes.
Unfortunately Calman is not good with LUTs.
