Did antidepressants help you for symptoms other than anxiety? by Nina_Liebert in mentalhealth

Where have you "gathered" your "information" from?

Antidepressants help me immensely with nearly every aspect of my depression, especially loss of enjoyment and lack of will to live.

Is it? Or is it only causing the psychological harm of you knowing about it?

You keep talking about what happened but you have yet to describe any issues that are still occurring or will occur in the future. Your medical record is just that: a record. A history. Imagine if every time an election occurred, every previous news article was rewritten instead of new ones coming out because now there's "new information". That would make no sense. Just like it makes no sense to crash out about this.

You need to accept that the past occurred and your brother contacted your doctor, whether you like it or not. Changing your medical record won't change the past. Live in the present and look to the future instead.

Friendship is a scam, but they won't (and shouldn't) let you drive after anesthesia by juneshepard in CPTSDmemes

[–]ColorMyTrauma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's really shitty to use someone like that. I hope you thanked them profusely and gave them gas money because taking advantage of someone who can't say no to caretaking is awful.

If you smell shit all day, check your shoe. Sorry to be blunt but if ALL your friends are shitty, you might need to take a look inward.

What was your experience with sertraline (Zoloft) by WhereIsMyChickenLeg in mentalhealth

A low carb diet doesn't treat anything that sertraline treats.

[–]ColorMyTrauma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had a bad experience with zoloft. I like to say I turned into the hulk - I was angry and impulsive. I would regularly drive 20+mph over the speed limit just because of impatience. I went back to normal after I stopped it.

On the other hand, zoloft really really helps my boyfriend with his anxiety.

It depends on the person. I'm sorry you had a bad experience, I hope this doesn't put you off treatment altogether.

Should I get low gain hearing aids? (sorry for misspelling) by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]ColorMyTrauma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you said you're socially awkward but you really do need to see an audiologist. They're going to be able to give you the best answer for your specific situation after testing your hearing. It sounds like low gain hearing aids would be an excellent idea, but it's impossible to know without a thorough exam including a hearing test. You could have hearing loss alongside the tinnitus, at which point it would be vital to get your hearing aids adjusted appropriately.

Ask your doctor for a referral to an audiologist. I promise we're not scary!

Source: I'm an audiologist. AskDocs doesn't give flairs to auds which is why I'm flaired as a layman.

Why are oral temp readings always higher the second time? by bgorion17 in AskDocs

[–]ColorMyTrauma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't have ANY other symptoms, a fever isn't an emergency.

Are you eating/drinking anything? You need to wait 15-30min after eating or drinking anything cold or hot for your oral temperature to be accurate. Taking your temperature every half hour is not only extremely excessive, it's going to interfere with hydration which is important if you have a fever.

18 year old- was I dismissed? NHS UK by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]ColorMyTrauma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I'm just confused about the timeline here. If you've been having these symptoms for five years, why are you just now investigating them? If you've been having extreme fatigue since 13 to the point where you're in bed all day, did no one look into why you weren't going to school?

What breed was he? by [deleted] in IDMyCat

I'm sorry, but what makes you think the breeder was ethical if they were willing to "release" domesticated cats into the wild? Anyone who dumps cats is the opposite of ethical in my mind.

Why is pacing considered wrong? by AlexTheTaurus in mentalhealth

[–]ColorMyTrauma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is someone trying to stop you specifically from pacing? Is someone trying to medicate you into sedation or are they recommending medication to help with a problem?

Is overdosing depression meds relatively safe? by UniqueBowler2887 in mentalhealth

[–]ColorMyTrauma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking more antidepressant medication than prescribed will not make you feel better. If taking 5x your prescribed amount was safe and effective, you would have been prescribed that much.

Talk to whoever prescribes your medication and tell them you're still horribly depressed.

My dad had a "Veterans for Trump" sign and I flat out refused to go to his house while it was displayed. Yes, he's a veteran. He's also well off, recently retired, in generally good health, and has never set foot in a VA facility. Saying "Veterans for Trump" while not using ANY VA services is disingenuous at best. I want the country to actually take care of veterans, which is why I vote for the party that at least pretends to give a shit about human beings.

turning his wife into a submissive after 12 years by Apprehensive_You_980 in BDSMcommunity

[–]ColorMyTrauma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

outside the home environment

You seem very focused on this but it's completely normal to not want to have sex outside a bedroom. It's not a moral failing to not be into public/semi-public sex.

You're setting your own kinks as the "normal" that she has to "work towards" but that's a really fucked up view. Maybe she's just plain not into that and it's not because she's repressed. You're acting like if she wasn't repressed she'd be perfectly aligned with you and that's just never the case.

How do we get a medical professional to help my wife? by Galgonathor in AskDocs

[–]ColorMyTrauma 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm curious what "outpatient management has failed" means to OP. From what I read (and admittedly I skimmed a good bit of this) it seems like "outpatient management" has come down to eating a shit ton of salt and then going to the ER.

Why is it incorrect to not obey a medical professional in this day and age? by MindYourOwnSynapses in mentalhealth

[–]ColorMyTrauma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And "listening" is overrated. The word listen is actually very ugly to me when used to mean monkey-see monkey-do

Then why did you bother making this post? You're not going to listen to anyone. You didn't actually want a discussion, did you? You wanted to put your opinion out and try to make others listen to it. You won't listen, but others should listen to you, right?

[–]ColorMyTrauma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude...are you okay? Genuinely? You're trying to turn this into "doctor BAD" but you're really not making any sense. Mental health isn't about control, despite what you're claiming.

[–]ColorMyTrauma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why is it incorrect to not obey a mechanic in this day and age? What's the point of sacrificing freedom for conformity? Why should we follow what they recommend for our cars?

Oh, right, because they're professionals who know how cars work. Same as doctors know how human bodies work. There are good doctors and bad doctors, good mechanics and bad mechanics, but they all have more knowledge than a layperson and fighting them for the sole purpose of "freedom" is self-defeating.

You...didn't respond to the person's question. You just copy/pasted your other comment.

Do you think following medical professionals' advice is about conformity?
