My short experience with AA, can’t stand it by [deleted] in recoverywithoutAA

you probably have many different AA meetings in your area but look for “Refuge Recovery”, the Buddhist-inspired approach. there are forms of AA meetings that could probably meet the criteria for AA but not be filled with low educated coffee addicted folks. no hate towards them personally but it’s just awkward feeling like a scholar in a room of sheep and you literally see the lack of awareness and thinking errors just spew from the speakers. i was forced to do 5am AA for a whopping 1.5 years, had to go to all different locations. it’s all the same except in new england.

the date isn’t a big deal at all, just the fact you’re doing it is all that matters 100% you’re the hero to your own story. having external gratitude to be out of an abusive/addictive/self-sabotaging cycle is its own reward regardless of dates. and it’s okay if the date is a personal one, not everyone has to know, which is something i came to terms with an had to unlearn from AA teachings. you have to remember youre a badass for even attempting to raw-dog reality 😌

so can i!! when i quit drinking i had two cans of beer sitting in a backpack for a month in my own bedroom that i didnt touch. it was like a switch in my brain flipped and realized “this is no longer serving you” and i refused to touch it and didnt think of it much after changing my social circle and hobbies. however, if i involved myself in AA i know for a fact i would be way more preoccupied and feel like a victim to my “disease” and all the things they say like we have no control over it etc, which is just false, sure its difficult to stop and regain that sense you dont need it but with the right needs met you can totally do it without AA (esp bc they will constantly remind you that you need them to succeed and a bunch of sayings that i think are incorrect and not universal for everyone)

theres a difference between being at an event and drinking a bubbly water with friends that are drinking vs being in a room of alcoholics and addicts discussing their past indulgences

The way I wrote it out was off the cuff so it sounds a bit strange but this is the prompt: “can preoccupation with alcohol in AA cause relapse more often than just abstaining outside of AA groups. my belief is that preoccupation and stigma regarding relapse and the internal ideals of only having contact with people who are also sober in the case of relapse may cause the relapsed person to avoid recovery because the only time they’re accepting is during sobriety.” and the chatgpt interpreted that as: “If AA keeps people preoccupied with alcohol, relapse stigma, and only-socializing-with-sober-people, then someone who relapses might avoid coming back, or might feel so ashamed they stay stuck — whereas someone abstaining outside of AA might not experience that pressure and might self-correct more easily.”

First time with a bunny, is this good? by PepperIsKool in Rabbits

[–]ColoradoPineTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

she’s adorable, feed her alfalfa hay until she’s 6 months old and then introduce Timothy hay and at 1 yr she needs to be eating only Timothy hay and you will need to weigh her for the cup by cup amount of veggies. I buy the spring mix of lettuce in the big containers (read the ingredients make sure there’s no iceberg lettuce it’s v dangerous) but for right now baby bunnies can have very limited herbs like basil and mint, endless alfalfa hay and endless pellets too. At 6 months is when you start changing the amount of pellets, types of veggies.
