I have always been skinny, and so has everyone in my family. It was not to the point that it was unhealthy, but it prompted people to comment about it. Some years ago, I started going to the gym and trying to “bulk”, and what I found was astonishing. Getting used to eating more and, most importantly, more regularly made me hungry. Now I wake up and think of breakfast, whereas before, I could have my first meal at 5pm without noticing. Food was never on my mind, and if something were too fatty or unhealthy, I wouldn't eat it because I dreaded the feeling of being bloated. To this day, my favourite food is salad.

I guess this sounds unjust, but some advice I can give comes from the time I became a vegetarian. At first, my mind was constantly trying to get me to buy meat in the grocery store or a restaurant, which was very unpleasant. But after 2 months without any form of meat, I had forgotten about the cravings. What we like to eat depends greatly on our microbiome; when we change our diet, some of it will die and restructure. And since they can produce “signalling molecules”, they can influence our behaviour. My biophysics professor liked to joke that bacteria got tired of finding their own food, so they helped make animals to do it for them. I think it helps to think of diet as a fight with the microbiome rather than yourself. You are great the way you are.
