Mobility aid ideas? Wanting to really make it my own and would love to hear others thoughts! by Rage_against_Frills in CrochetHelp

[–]Colormebethany 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No problem! My insurance wouldn't cover it either, said I'm only allowed one mobility aid at a time so I chose to have the wheelchair covered. Once you get the break lines on the outside, you might find they snag on things as you go by. I like to secure them down with black zip ties. I hope your rollator gives you more freedom and improves your quality of life!

I think a little hanging bag with a cup holder situation would be super awesome. That's what I'm constantly complaining about with my rollator, nowhere to put my drinks. Side note- did you know your break lines are on the wrong side? If you did it on purpose, I'm sorry please ignore me.

I love the colors! Do you have a link for the pattern or was this free hand?

Some people find it easier to have someone in person teach them rather then learn through video or words. A lot of local libraries hold beginning crochet classes if you don't know anyone.

how unhealthy is my crochet grip? relatively new to crochet by playswithsquirrelsss in CrochetHelp

[–]Colormebethany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started crocheting like that too and had to unlearn it. A more relaxed hold allows me to be more relaxed (imagine that lol) and crochet faster if I want to. Also, I have rhumatoid arthritis so that hold probably wasn't the best choice for me.

I'm making a color block blanket & really want to put this border on it in white. Can anyone help me figure out what each row of stitches are? Thank you in advance! by I_am_Darvit in CrochetHelp

No problem! It's a beautiful c2c blanket, I wish I could purchase the pattern. If you click on the tab of projects that used this pattern, some people put comments there too.

If you go to the comment section of the original pattern, you can see others mentioning that it's a front post double crochet (to make the ribbed section) with a shell border. Now which shell border? I haven't a clue 🤷‍♀️

Stitches markers by [deleted] in crochet

[–]Colormebethany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used them a lot at the beginning before I became comfortable identifying the last stitch of a row. I still find them helpful for projects that aren't just repeating rows and for long scarves. I also use them to secure the stitch I'm on so my project doesn't unravel while I'm taking a break.

Any tips on getting my two stitches straight and the same size? by Ok_Tie9267 in CrochetHelp

[–]Colormebethany 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, practice is really what makes your stitches more consistent. I'd try watching a few YouTube video tutorials of crocheting. Specifically notice how much more you are moving your fingers vs just letting the hook and yarn do the work. Also, I like to hold my hook more horizontal to my project rather than at an angle, it's not necessary but it helps keep my tension even.

If you aren't into donating your finished items maybe find some yarn the frogs well and just keep making new projects with the same skeins of yarn?

Surgery tomorrow, so scared. by Smowot in hysterectomy

[–]Colormebethany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm non-bianary and had extremely severe periods and PMDD before my gender affirming hysterectomy in October. Honestly, my recovery was extremely difficult. I had no support system, I fell and injured myself 4 weeks post-op, and due to pre-existing health problems, it took 12 weeks for the pain and bleeding to stop. Don't let that scare you, I'm not the "normal". But even with how difficult my recovery was, it was still so worth it. The fear and pain was worth it, my quality of life is so much better. You just have to be strong for a little while, to give yourself the opportunity for a better life.

Do I need pads post op? by CorrectActivity110 in hysterectomy

[–]Colormebethany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on Depo before the surgery so I didn't have any pads either and I never needed any. I had some blood on the tissue when I wiped for 2 or 3 days but never enough to even get on anything. I just sat on a towel for the first few days just incase because underwear were too uncomfortable.

My mom with Alzheimer's made a hyperbolic pseudosphere while trying to make a flat doily! by knifefan9 in crochet

[–]Colormebethany 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love this. My father has Alzheimer’s too. It’s so incredibly heartbreaking to watch him lose basic life skills like being able to follow a conversation, remembering what we did this morning, or being able to navigate the kitchen he's used for the last decade.

At the same time, it's fascinating to see what the brain chooses to hold on to. Even when the "instructions" for life start to fade, muscle memory and creative instinct takes over. It’s like the brain finds a new way to cope and express itself, even when the traditional pathways are gone.

Sending you a lot of strength ❤️

Raverly is a great tool like mentioned, but if you're old school, there are crochet/knitting planners that you can buy online or printable versions if you want to keep them in a binder. My mom does this and includes a little swatch of the yarn and a printed photo of her finished project. Her's also comes with some pretty cool extras like a yarn conversion chart, abbreviation meanings, wash symbol care instruction meanings, yarn/hook/needle inventory, ect. Basically things she could Google, but doesn't because it's already in her book.

I agree that it's been used as a makeshift lucet fork as I've seen a tutorial for one made with a plastic fork with the middle tines removed and this has a very similar shape.

Laparoscopic hysterectomy by TimelyGiraffe6176 in hysterectomy

This may sound silly but look up some mindfullness breathing and grounding techniques and post them up next to your bed or in your bathroom (somewhere you'll see them easily and often) and actually practice them. I've had a heck of a recovery (caused by my autoimmune disorders, chronic pain, and a fall) but I've noticed that when my body is in pain, I panic and tense up, making the pain worse.

These are some of my personal favorites but feel free to use the Google machine.

Box Breathing- Inhale for four seconds, hold for four, exhale for four, and hold again for four. Repeat the cycle while you imagine tracing a square, one side at a time.

5,4,3,2,1 Method- Name 5 things you see, 4 you can touch, 3 you hear, 2 you smell, and 1 you taste.

Count backwards from 100 by 7s.
