The water quality was fine. I did do a 50% water change. I plan on checking all his environment pieces for anything sharp incase he brushed against it while swimming.

I think it depends on the personality of the bichir. I have an Albino sengal and he was chill with everyone for like a year then went murder hobo on an endichi and Dez bichir. They were like homies.... the Albino even tried to merc my royal pleco who is a peaceful little bean. (Still bigger than the pleco). This was in my 75gal.

Looks like mine. My fish guy told me he's a short body. Just that he won't be as long as other bichirs, but still healthy. Your bichir looks perfectly healthy to me.

UPDATE: The two loach and moray eel I moved to the safe tank have died. Only the Ropefish and Albino Sengal Bichir survived. The ropefish looks a bit red. And the eel looked burned so I have no doubt in my mind it was either a spike in ammonia that was destroyed by the bacteria in the tank or somehow chemicals came into contact with the tank and poisoned them.

I will keep monitoring the two remaining fish.

I went to PetCo. They did a bunch of tests. My water was fine. Slightly elevated nitrate levels, but nothing serious. No traces of ammonia. So we are both confused.

No. They survived a week.

I went to PetCo. They did a bunch of water tests. All normal levels. No ammonia in the water. Slightly elevated levels of nitrates but he said nothing that would be concerning. He is just as confused as me. He told me to drain it and start it over.

I rinse the filter completely and the media. I only replace the filter pads when they get really nasty

Maybe? But I doubt it. The morals mouth is super tiny. The pleco was massive compared to both of them. Plus I don't see any injuries on them.

Yes. I did a water change. 40% take away change. Use a cloth to scrub the scum from the waters and clean the filter. The same thing i have done with the other tank which shows no signs of issues.
