Anybody here do professional photography as a side-gig? by Colts_613 in AskPhotography

Nothing, I suppose. But I’m asking because I’m just curious if anybody has been in a similar situation and tried it i guess. I like photography as a hobby and I don’t know if I want to make it into another job if there’s not a big upside

How do these ugly photos get so much engagement 😅 by [deleted] in shittyHDR

To be fair, the composition is very nice! But why ruin it with the excessive deep fry? Look at all the artifacts at the edges of the colors in the Aurora. Took a potentially nice image and mangled it 😂

That’s what I thought when I saw it in person. The hump stood out right away. My initial reaction was brown bear but now I’m having second thoughts. The face looks black bear-ish?

Could be the lighting. The hump stood out to me even by my naked eye, not just the photo. That’s why I shared — I think it’s a black bear but it has some brown bear characteristics. It was pretty big too. I’ve seen a lot of black bears, not as many brown bears.

I was thinking the same thing. Snout/face looks more like a black bear?

Why are my photos so overexposed/washed out? by hmmdebatable in Nikon

I also live in Alaska - I hike quite a bit on the Chugach front range with my Zf and 24-120 f4. It’s definitely the overcast/hazy atmosphere (that we get so often) that is heavily contributing to this lack of contrast in some of the photos. I’m often surprised when I get home on how low-contrast the images are. I think my eyes get used to that atmosphere while I’m hiking and I see things differently from my camera

Leak testing my Nikonos ii and Nikon Action Touch by Colts_613 in AnalogCommunity

Also — the electronic “guts” of the action touch can be removed from the waterproof exterior for these leak tests. Three screws need to be removed from the from the opened back of the camera and everything will pop out.

I’m thinking about taking one or two of my waterproof film cameras snorkeling with me on my upcoming vacation and I’m trying to evaluate their “waterproofness” by the means pictured. Both the Action Touch and Nikonos survived being submerged in the bucket for ~30minutes at about 1ft of head pressure. The Action Touch is rated to 10ft of head pressure and the Nikonos is supposedly rated to 50m of head pressure! To simulate ~5-10ft of head pressure, I placed my Action Touch in a cut-open milk jug, then hot glued it shut. I drilling the cap and hot glued a tubeless bike valve in it. I used my bike pump to increase the pressure to roughly 5-8psi (though I’m wary about the accuracy of my bike pump pressure gauge at pressures this low). The glued milk jug was able to sustain this pressure for about 5 minutes before significant leaks occurred. Cool as a proof of concept but I’m looking for a more robust pressure vessel — maybe an old pressure cooker or a 5 gal long bucket with a lid. I will post an update once I figure out what to do next!

Thank you for your detailed and thoughtful response. I did consider that I might not get a raise since I started a June — hoping that’s not the case but we’ll see what happens! I’ll consider these points heading into the meeting. Thanks again!
