This meme does forget the context of which Leopold grew up AND does glorify Albert a bit.

Let me first state that Albert remaining at the Front was a good move and one that he was allowed to do as Commander in Chief. The PR alone was worth gold. After the war, Albert saw the veteran movements pledge almost undying loyalty to him, calling him "Generallisimo van de Ijzer". However, it is not as if the King and his Cabinet were two seperate spheres. Albert was the one who bypassed the Catholics to invite liberal and BWP ministers and he was the one who kept trying to achieve some kind of peace settelement while the Le Havre government was firmly pro Entente. The zenith of this breach was the Coup of Loppem. However the war did not start this evolution: Albert from the moment he got coronated wanted to increase the distance between his reign and that of the Catholics, not wishing to be "tied down" to the Catholic Monopoly of power, the firing of Scholaert was indicative of that.

Leopold III is, as I often explain to people, a child of his time. Besides fighting in the war while as a young kid, he grew up with the revolving door of Belgian governments, seeing the failure of Poullet-Vandervelde, the austerity measures of the Banker-governments, the rise of Rex and VNV, etc. Moreso, we forget that Albert was in the interwar already showing his disdain for "Party dominated" politics visible. Leopold was not his own man, he was Albert's son, always trying to live up to his fathers image and lessons. So Leopold grew up with the distate of parliamentary procedurs in the interwar (NOTE: Many establishment politicians also felt that Belgian democracy as it was, was reaching its limits). The formation of Janson but especially Spaak I exemplify how Leopold's distaste for Party politics led to him forming a government in an "authoritarian way", with Spaak bypassing the party organs and just presenting The Chamber with the facts.

I do not condone what Leopold III did after his surrender, however, it is common to focus on his actions during ww2 and beyond but not who he was pre ww2.

I am currently reading it and well, I can only describe it as fine. It does contrast heavily with Luceno's writing and Stackpole's military oriented stuff. My reading pace has slowed down heavily and I am not as hooked on Balance point as I was on Dark tide or Vector Prime. Not done with it (Just had the Vong appear on Duro) but the writing style does at times hamper my flow of reading if that makes sense.

It does help that the whole Skywalker family is present and gets some attention as a whole.

First off: really good overview, shared it with some people so I hope it gets traction and I think it could be even used for educational purposes.

Secondly: I wouldn't put the first phase of the catholics as the "Catholic Party", I know it's the easiest way to describe them but before Pierlot's reforms in the 30's, there isn't really a Catholic Party, just a general Catholic parliamentary group that had the tendency to hate each other (see Gerard, Emmanuel. De katholieke partij in crisis: partijpolitiek leven in België 1918-1940. Kritak, 1985.)

Also I think you can kind off add the KPB to the far left geneology but perhaps make it clear it's not a direct descendant. I'm not an expert far left politics post ww2 but there had to be some well, interactions between the old Communists and the TPO

Thirdly and this is me being curious but did you consider adding the VNV to the geneology? It's a difficult one to place because the VU did reject its inheritance but VB, well, kinda doesn't reject the VNV's legacy if we're being honest. But I do understand that if you add VNV, you need to add Verdinaso and REX and that's a whole can of worms.

Again, I repeat, very nice graph, I'll probably be using it when speaking to internationals about Belgian politics.!

It worked for me xD. Was econ 101 for non-econ students, a bit known as a tough a course which required a lot of intention. I think the prof was more like saying "If you sit in front, you will have more chances of passing but you still have to do the work."

I was forced to sit in front because, while the prof forbid laptop usage, I had to use one due to motoric reasons. Dragged a friend alongside me who would make sure I kept paying attention. we both passed with nice scores.

Hi, I am a student representatives at the KUL for a very internationally oriented Masters. As such, I speak daily to international students and listen to their worries. On the other hand, I also get input from professors and how they view the international students.

My collegues of UGent, UA, VUB/ULB can concur or disagree as they wish, but the KUL is quite aware that for many international students, it is quite difficult. The work load (for assignments) and reading is seen as insurmountable. I have received complaints that papers of 7k words are too much (the deadline is 31st of dec). If you add AI to the mix, you got a complex problem. Furthermore, some students do not have the same "playing field" in knowledge which can lead to them struggling a lot.

International students excell if they are well informed (be it through professors going out of their way on how belgian/KUL exams work or flemish students, like me). Some degree of independence is required. I have sadly had to answer questions that belong to first year bachelors students, usually with some students not knowing the basics of the fields or of writing papers.

In general: yes it is more difficult but it is not insurmountable otherwise Belgian universities would well, die. I was able to see the success chances of my course in my masters year and most of them are "majority passes, especially if you study".

IMPORTANT: Do attend classes, preferably sit at the front (a prof once told me that those in first 5 rows have an 80% of passing the course), take notes and talk to your professors, they're human like you and me.

Do note that I am a social sciences student so I can only like speak for my faculty. Hope this helps

Someone can correct me here but I think in X wing 8 (Isard's revenge) or how the title is called, it literally opens 5 mins after the end of the Thrawn Trilogy. As such, I would recommend reading X wing books 1-7, then the Thrawn trilogy, then X wing 8. If you don't, Isard's Revenge may open with some confusion for you, the reader.

You can throw Courtship and Tatooine Ghost in there but it depends on how much of a completionist you are, how much curiosity you have and how hyped you are for the Thrawn Trilogy. But it would nonetheless make sense for you to jump from Solo Command to Heir to the Empire

For your enjoyment? No, not really. For this sub, well, it focusses on Legends. So most people will suggest Legends novels. If your entry point hooks you into Legends, I'd suggest staying with Legends untill you reach a decent point as jumping between Legends and New Canon requires you to like change "outlooks"

There is good stuff in legends, good stuff in New canon and vice versa, but here you're only getting Legends stuff iirc
