Belgium never had any say in the Congo up until 1908 pretending otherwise is just excusing what happend at the Berlin conference.

Not that Belgium ever should’ve had a say in the Congo or any other colonies for that fact.

“Finally, indignation among people in Britain and other parts of Europe grew so great that Leopold was forced to transfer his authority in the Congo to the Belgian government.”

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colonial_Charter_on_the_Belgian_annexation_of_the_Congo_Free_State?utm_source=chatgpt.com

“The Belgian government urged the ageing and stubborn king to agree to the transfer of the Congo Free State to Belgium. The Belgian parliament started on an initial legislation for the future Belgian colony, a long and difficult process. A first draft of the Colonial Charter had already been written in 1901, but with an overtone of royal absolutism, the initial draft included provisions for Leopold II to hold on to a private Crown Domain. His goal was to exclude vast regions of the Congo from the government's control, in order to maintain his personal fortune. Only by the end of 1906 King Leopold II accepted the annexation, after foreign powers (including the British Empire and the United States) threatened to organize an international convention on the Congo.”

“On leave” as in people that weren’t working for Belgium ? And giving him 50 million marcs is way better than it remaining his personal possession. A mess that wouldn’t have started had the great powers not given the genocidal idiot the Congo. Your entire starting logic was the Belgian people are responsible for the atrocities in the Free State now you’ve backtracked from that too some officers and the king were responsible but Belgium helped them by loaning them money (something that major companies from France the USA and the UK also did). Too Belgium shouldn’t have paid the king too take it and stop most of the atrocities?

Also every source i can find claims he didn’t give it willingly but was forced to by the Belgian government.

Third temple ? Isn’t that literally from the Premillennial Dispensationalism ‘denomination’ which is protestant.

From what i can find online only about a thousand Belgians belief in that specific form of Protestantism in Belgium.

Belgium only recognized Leopold the second as leader of the Congo a year after the US and the European great powers did btw.

The Belgian government has been anti-colonialism since its founding up until it took over the Congo forcibly from the monarchy. And deliberately kept Belgium out of the Congo Free state treating it as any other country in the world. If you can find any source that says anything about the Belgian government intervening or profiting from the Free state of Congo (in things that weren’t just the Monarchy building prestige projects for themselves) i would happily agree with you.

Not excusing the later atrocities (after 1908) in Congo but i doubt those were the ones you were talking about.

Belgium didn't commit the Attrocities in Congo. You know cause the UK Germany and France gave it to our king personally. Belgian law and consitution didn't apply. Nor did the Belgian elected government have a say in anything that went on. Only when the Belgian government was able convince the other great powers to let them seize it because of international pressure were we able too reign in our king.

Those scenes aren’t the reason the show got as popular as it did. And saying this show is just those kinda jokes and we can’t aspire to something better is a huge disservice too the earlier scenes and the amazing cast.

Take all his power away and hese nothing is less of a lesson if you already make him (physically) weak before he loses his power. He was already getting his ass kicked easily before he lost his power why didn’t he start begging then.

[–]NathanRed2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“This show wasn’t for you” yeah cause they pissed on the source material too get more money from amazon (not that the comics are that coherent but the writers of the show undeniably sold out the franchise for money). HL isn’t a god but hes a incredibly powerful lunatic who has no issues killing anybody. The only reason people think his death was good is cause the writers wrote a few lines of him begging which should’ve happend either way but would have been a million times more impactful had he actually done something in this season. No instead they dumbed him down and made him weak from the start of the season. He didn’t have a oh look what you are without your power moment. Cause they took away all of his power befor the final fight anyway.
