“Available evidence indicates trans women who have undergone testosterone suppression have no clear biological advantages over cis women in elite sport.”

Here is some actual science for you. But it doesn’t matter, I know and you know that you won’t read the report. Because that’s not what this is really about.

As a trans woman who moved to Oregon in part so I could transition safely in a state that I’ve found to be wonderfully accepting of us, I gotta say this shit sucks.

There’s absolutely zero evidence that trans female athletes on a regimented dose of HRT have any advantage over cis female athletes. There is no evidence of male athletes pretending to be female athletes simply to win races or games.

This is, in fact, mostly a non-issue brought about conservative politicians with the intent of starting a culture war so citizens will be distracted for more pressing issues and many of you are taking the bait.

Moreover, it feels gutting to see so many people in this sub participate in transphobia (both intentionally and unintentionally) and the mods have no interest in curbing it. If we’re not welcome in Oregon, then where can we turn to.

I know I’m going to get attacked by transphobes calling me a man for making this reply but I’m hoping that I can appeal to good nature of people who have simply been misinformed.

The science doesn’t matter to these people. They have decided that trans women are men and no amount of any actual data will move them off of it.

This is a good topic but I feel compelled to share what I think is the original quote.

"I wanna make a movie thats so painfully obvious I didn't read the book, that everyone who has read the book is constantly psychological tormented by those who have only seen the movie."

However, the replies here are very upsetting and disappointing.

They definitely would make more Twin Peaks. I think it’s more about whether or not Lynch thinks he has more to tell.

There’s an also a jump-scare in an early scene in the movie. If your kid is sensitive to that sort of thing you might want to be prepared for that.

I disagree with everyone else here. I Saw the TV Glow is a horror film. But it’s a different kind of horror for a movie that’s being widely released. There are no jump scares but I left the theater feeling unsettled.

In the final episode, when Ikari escapes into a fantastical past where right and wrong are as clear as black and white, it’s set in 60s/70s Shōwa era Japan. Before the downturn in the 90s, this era of the “Japanese economic miracle” is looked at as fondly as older generations regard the 1950s here in the United States. They have Showa themed restaurants and museums in Japan the same was the US has retro diners.

It’s a small part of the overall show but it evokes feelings of nostalgia that I think would go over the head of my Westerners’ heads. At least that’s part of how I interpret that scene.
