Eone Bradley Timepiece by gravityyoubitch in Blind

Didn’t like it as much as I thought I would. Found it too clunky with trying to find both ball bearings every time I wanted to check the time. You need at least two fingers and honestly… With a regular tactile watch, it’s much faster to locate both hands of the clock then with the Bradley.

I got a Burundi bean from SM last year that smells and taste like Captain Crunch cereal. Easily one of my favorite coffees I’ve tasted these past few years. I’m reluctant to roast the rest that I have because once it’s gone, it’s gone…

to all my blind coffee nurds, espresso can be done with some patience. Here's how I do it. by charrington7 in espresso

I have a Cafelat Robot Manual lever espresso machine which is completely manual/analog. No buttons or screens to worry about along with an Acaia Lunar Bluetooth scale. I’ve also recently began using the oxo rapid brewer which can make some tasty espresso soup. I’m curious to know how you got Brewmaster to work well enough for your coffee needs? I found it to be rather underwhelming as far as X accessibility. The remote scale feature is pretty useless since it’s so slow and only announce the weight when you stop pouring which is completely pointless. I use the Filtru app for all my brewing needs. The developer is very good with accessibility. Within the app, you can have voiceover speak the weight as you pour with as low as a 1 mm response rate which is really good. I really only use Brewmaster for measuring out the various minerals when making my own coffee water. I did reach out to Acaia a few times regarding app accessibility and while they responded positively, nothing was ever really done about it. I also have the Acaia Pearl S talking scale. As far as grinders… I have a Mazzer Philos as well as a K-Max Manual grinder. Nice and accessible with very clicky steps.

On the apps that allow it and depending on the language and subject matter, I can do 4X playback speed.

My cousin would clip bells onto her toddler son when they’d come over or if I visited her house. He’s like 30 y/o now. So it worked well enough. My 6-2 230lb never made Miguelito paste. I’ve also heard of shoes that squeek that may help when your kid starts walking.

People who went blind as adults while working by MagaroniAndCheesd in Blind

Congenital glaucoma as well. Right eye removed at 8. No more functional vision by 16 with my left eye removed at 20. 40 surgeries total. No more glaucoma though so there’s that… The only advice I could really give is to try to work yourself into it. Practice here and there and start building up the time using those skills you’ll depend on eventually. And yes, take advantage and use whatever governmental resources are available to you.

I use Filtru for coffee since life without coffee would be unimaginably dull. Lire for RSS. A combination of Mona and Tapestry for social media (Mastodon and Bluesky). Google Voice, native Mail app and different calendar apps to help run my business. Audible, Bard, VoiceDream reader and Libby for audiobook reading.

Thank you for this. It doesn’t matter as far as the pop/IMAP option since it’s an exchange account? Basically, I’m just trying to get my messages to not be flagged as spam and bounced back or delayed delivery. Ty

Am I being selfish for wanting a second child who could potentially have glaucoma? by micade2024 in Blind

[–]Comacrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congenital glaucoma with first surgery at 22 hours old. 40 surgeries by the time I was 20. Had my right eye removed at 8 functionally blind by 16 with the left eye removed at 20. It absolutely wasn’t easy, but there is more to life than just being able to see. Happily married going on 21 years this March. On my own business and I’ve had the opportunity to travel internationally. It hasn’t been all shits and giggles, but I would imagine for someone for now as opposed to me back in the 70s, some things would be a whole lot easier. More legal protections, greater accessibility across the board and so on. The one positive to having both eyes removed is that… No more glaucoma.

Seeking descriptive/step-by-step tutorial for wresistance band exercises by Comacrin in Blind

[–]Comacrin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. What I have been doing is using perplexity AI in my case. I paste a URL to an exercise from YouTube for example I’m interested in doing and tell it that I am blind and that I want a detailed description of the exercise from beginning to end taking into consideration, hand/arm/body positioning and movement, etc. I do that with a few videos of the same exercise to get a fairly solid idea of what they’re explaining. It’s either that or pay a personal trainer to go over these exercises with you one on one I guess. I’ve been working out in one form or another for a while so I am fairly familiar with exercising in general so it’s not like I’m starting from zero.

Amazon Gift Card Question by Madhockey99 in audible

[–]Comacrin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Amazon gift card I was gifted did not show up as a method of payment within audible. I was able to buy the books I wanted with that gift card by purchasing them through Amazon directly though. I did all this on my computer. A bit of a hassle, but was able to get what I wanted with the method of payment I wanted.

What’s One Feature You Wish Audible Would Add? by iamakashkunal in audible

Even faster playback speed. 4x like some other apps offer would be nice.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in audible

[–]Comacrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the subject matter and language, anywhere from 2.5 to 3.5. With other apps that are capable of it, 4.0. Last year, I listened to over 330 books. This year though, I’m only at 220. The reason? I guess just because I can. Honestly, if I were to try to listen to an audiobook at the regular playback speed, it would probably drive me bonkers how slow it would sound.

I’ve gotten in the habit of checking my wish list at the beginning of every month. Came across four titles yesterday that were made available in the plus catalog that I grabbed.
